How to Use this List
This list shows what varieties are currently available and at which sizes. It’s linked real-time to our database and is updated
very frequently. If an item is listed here, it ’s available for our Distributors to order but they may not necessarily have that item
in stock right now. If you see something you’re interested in purchasing through your favoured Distributor, you can ask them
to obtain it for you.
The price categories are broadly as follows:
A = inexpensive items, usually in good supply and also easy to grow.
B = medium priced items, either quite rare and new or sometimes less easy to grow/produce.
C = high prices items, usually new introductions currently in very short supply, and/or difficult to grow/produce.
Price Categories
The actual prices charged by individual Distributors are likely to follow the general categories above but they are not bound by
any obligations on pricing and if you wish to judge whether the price charged by a Distributor for a particular item is fair, the
best way may be to compare prices between them. In countries with several Distributors, they are in competition with one
another. It’s worth bearing in mind that price may not be the only factor to consider in choosing which Distributor to order
from. Each Distributor receives exactly the same standard of produce from us but their costs of sale may vary a great deal
depending upon how they handle the plants after receiving them. Some may sell them on quickly, others may take a
considerable time re-establishing them before reselling. The obvious advantages in establishing the plants may be offset by
the necessity to charge a higher price. It’s a matter of your personal preference which Distributor you choose. We don ’t
recommend one Distributor over another.
Size Categories
These are the size categories we use when shipping. Please note that the Distributors are free to use different criteria for
deciding whether a plant is small, medium, large etc.
Plant Sizes
The size of plants is categorised by measurement across the leaf span from leaf-tip to leaf-tip of the largest two leaves, not
including tendrils and pitchers, as shown in the photos below. Species have a minimum leaf span of 5cm (2") but some may
be larger than this, up to a maximum of about 15cm (6") leaf span. Hybrids have a larger minimum leaf span than the species
at 6.5cm (2.5”) but as with species, some may be larger than this, again up to a maximum of about 15cm (6") leaf span.
We ship plants on a first-come-first-served basis, starting with the largest plants we have in stock and working downwards. If
you are ordering plants from one of our Distributors, you can expect your plants to arrive either bare-rooted or potted
(depending upon the Distributor) and to have a leaf span somewhere in the ranges shown in the photos below:

Nepenthes burkei Endemic to the island of Mindoro in the Philippines, this under-appreciated species is as easy to grow as

attractive, being red flecked on a yellow/green background with lustrous scalloped peristome. If pruned
back it will form dense clusters of basal growths and many pitchers, with it being rare to find a leaf not
developing a pitcher.

So far as we can tell at the time of writing (June
2012) this is the true species. The pitcher shape
seems somewhat atypical judging from the few
habitat photos available but so does the shape of
the pitcher of the only other commercially available
form from another producer. The plant certainly has
plenty of indumentum on leaves, tendrils and stem
but we can make no guarantees at this stage.

Nepenthes species
Nepenthes robcantleyi Some time back we bred two of the only nine plants known in cultivation of this, one of the rarest of all
Nepenthes. The area where seed that gave rise to the original nine plants was collected was devastated
by logging activities in the late 1990s and Nepenthes robcantleyi is believed to be either critically
endangered, or possibly even extinct in the wild. The female parent of this release has the cultivar name
‘Queen of Hearts’, and is very probably the most photographed Nepenthes in history, having appeared
on many of our gold medal winning Chelsea Flower show exhibits. The male parent named ‘King of
Spades’ is darker in overall colouration than the ‘Queen of Hearts’ and has green peristome wings.
For some years we labelled these plants as a form of Nepenthes truncata, although there were clearly
striking taxonomical differences between them and the existing published description of Nepenthes
truncata. In December 2011 Nepenthes robcantleyi was described in the Noridic Journal of Botany as a
distinct species in its own right by Dr. Martin Cheek, a taxonomist with the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew.
The publication gives the history of this species in cultivation and the reason why the name Nepenthes
robcantleyi was chosen.
Some differences in pitcher colouration, morphology, plant vigour and size when mature, can be expected
to appear between individuals, but so far we are seeing good uniformity amongst these plants which are
all raised from a single grex of seeds.
