Biological Resource Centres (BRCs)

BRCs are an essential part of the infrastructure underpinning biotechnology. Theyconsist of service providers and repositories of the living cells, genomes of organism,and information relating to heredity and the functions of biological systems. BRCscontain collection of culturable organism, replicable parts of these, viable but not yetculturable organism cells and tissues, as well as data bases containing molecular,physioligical and structural information relevant to these collecions and relatedbioinformatics. BRCs must meet the high standards of quality and expertisedemanded by the international community of scientist and industry for the delivery ofbiological information and materials. They must provide access to biological resourceson which R&D in the life sciences and the advancement of biotechnology depends.
