Kites played a big part of understanding the laws of lifts , propulsion, and control which later apply to building airplanes.

Hot air Balloon

The modern age of aviation began with the first untethered human lighter-than-air flight on November 21, 1783, in a hot air balloon designed by the Montgolfier Brothers.

Jean Pierre Blanchard flew the first human-powered dirigible.

Glider In 1803 Sir George Cayley was building and flying planes.

Between 1867 and 1896 the German pioneer of human aviation Otto Lilienthal developed heavier-than-air flight. He was the first person to make well-documented, repeated, successful gliding flights.
