ABOUT GOVARDHAN ECOVILLAGE
The modern rampant age has led to various side effects, at microscopic level in our imbalanced lifestyles and at macro-scopic level affecting the ecology of the entire planet. Gov-ardhan Ecovillage (GEV) is a humble attempt to highlight the importance of living a life in harmony with nature and to create a model farm community.
‘Simple Living & High Thinking’ – a principle which is so succinct yet profound, formed the basis of life in the bygone age of wisdom. Life in the Vedic times was based onService, but not on exploitation; this was the cardinal rule of living and the very essence of people’s dealings – with each other and that with Mother Nature. With this principle as the basis, GEV was set up in 2003.
Spreading over 100 acres, GEV today is an award- winning Eco-Community making steady progress in diverse fields. GEV has academically researched, scientifically experi-mented and successfully implemented a symbiosis of scientific results from both Vedic and modern techniques. Our aim is to develop farm communities as they present a sustainable way of living a life which is socially, physically, mentally, emotion-ally, spiritually and environmentally friendly. Experience a place which is a blend of Vedic wisdom and modern practice. Welcome to GEV!

By combining tradition with innovation, wisdom with practice, the Govard-han School of Sustainability (GSOS) has the purpose of being a global center for collaborative research and holistic education in sustainability.
To inspire transformative change through experience-oriented sustainabili-ty studies.
GSOS is made by an international team with diverse backgrounds, has a global outlook and is setting partnerships with several international univer-sities, promoting increased cultural and academic exchange.
Govardhan School of Sustainability (GSOS) is an education initiative based in Govardhan Ecovillage, an eco-community located around 90 kms from Mumbai. With its 250 residents, Govardhan Ecovillage is striv-ing to set up a role model village, nested in an ecological infrastructure amidst a picturesque landscape of the Sahyadri mountains. The ecovillage is composed of farms, animal shelter, yoga school, ayurveda center, community area and geo-tourism site, all nested in the setting of an ashram. Now GEV has broadened its outreach by being host for the GSOS, a learning center oriented towards studies of ecologyand transfor-mation of self and society.
The backbone of GSOS is to inspire transformative change towards sus-tainability. This is accomplished by bringing forth new modes of thinking, acting, living and being in the world. Students who come to GSOS are encouraged to engage not only in theories of sustainability, but also in hands-on activities, workshops, outdoor classes, cultural activities, art and spirituality.
