Aspiring Future Youth Justice Leaders Development Programme

AYM has been offering a successful training and development programme for future leaders, since 2015. It will be of particular interest to managers in YOTs who are contemplating making applications for more senior roles.

Each module includes a session with a guest speaker who has a leadership role within our sector. Part of the introductory workshop will be used to identify the speakers who would be of most relevance to the group. Previous guest speakers have included the Chief Executive of the YJB, Chief Executive of a voluntary organisation, an Independent Chair of a safeguarding board, Director of Children’s Services, and Heads of Service who have achieved promotion from operational roles in a YOT.

Our course leader is Andrew Odgers, who has taught all previous cohorts and received consistently high feedback for the quality of his course leadership.

Information about the cost of the course is available via [email protected] . In addition, course members will need to cover the cost of travel to the venues and overnight accommodation where needed.

There is no formal selection process, and we operate on a first-come-first-served basis, provided funding is available, and the application has the written agreement of the Head of Service.

There is also an option to complete some extra work and assessment to achieve an ILM 5 Certificate.

I would “recommend it to others, very helpful and useful. I think I will be a better manager because of it.”
