1 For Immediate Release AYP 50 th Anniversary Gala Dinner (2 nd November, 2011 Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Award for Young People (AYP), formerly known as The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DEA), was established in 1961 with the mission to provide opportunity for young people to challenge themselves through leisure activities and voluntary service which they can discover their hidden abilities and gain a special sense of satisfaction and achievement. To commemorate the 50 th anniversary of AYP, AYP hosts a spectacular Gala Dinner at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre today. Guests of honour who will grace this historic occasion include His Royal Highness, The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, KG GCVO, Trustee and Chairman of the International Council of The International Award Associations, and The Honourable Donald Tsang, GBM, Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Over 500 dignitaries and elite guests will attend this remarkable white-tie gala evening, joining Mr. Rock Chen, Chairman of the AYP Award Council and members of the Organizing Committee including Ms. Bonnie Chan, Ms. Michelle Cheng, Mr. Albert Hui, Mr. Andy Kwok, Ms. Maya Lin, Ms. Anthea Lo, Ms. Gigi Pang, Mr. Derek Yeung. AYP is also very excited to have received tremendous support from patrons such as Cartier, Mr. Rock Chen, Chow Tai Fook Charity Foundation, Ms. Pansy Ho, New World Development Company Limited, Mr. Alexander Yeung and Dr. Andrew Stephen Yuen. Other prestigious guests attending the evening include: The Honorable Michael Suen Ming Yeung, Mrs. Susan Tang JP, Ms. Pansy Ho, Dr. & Mrs. Simon Kwok, Mrs. Sally Leung, GBS, OBE,JP, Ms. Daisy Ho, Mrs. Mira Yeh, Ms. Molly Kung, Mr. & Mrs. William Louey, Mr. & Mrs. Adrian Li, Ms. Sabrina Chao, Mr. & Mrs. Daryl Ng, to name a few. During the evening, a charity auction and an AYP experiential game to engage our guests to experience the five sections of activities of the AYP Programme, namely Service, Physical Recreation, Expeditions, Skills and Residential Project, will be held to raise additional funds in benefit of AYP. The highlight of the evening is a Broadway dance performance by a group of 12 current AYP members who have devoted over 16 hours in the past months for rehearsals in preparation of this special night. Mr. Xue Xiaoqiu, one of the most notable young Chinese pianists in the world, will give his solo performance as an example of the extraordinary power of youth. Apart from the performance, AYP is delighted to have its first male gold awardee, Mr. Chan Chow Wing, and Dr. Rosanna Peeling, its first female Gold Awardee who is especially flying to Hong Kong all the way from the U.K. to join us and share their own AYP stories with our guests in this remarkable evening.

(2nd November, 2011 Hong Kong) The Hong Kong Award for Young People (AYP), formerly known

as The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DEA), was established in 1961 with the mission to provide

opportunity for young people to challenge themselves through leisure activities and voluntary service

which they can discover their hidden abilities and gain a special sense of satisfaction and achievement.

Over the past 50 years, AYP has provided 300,000 young people with an opportunity to face the

challenge of worthwhile leisure activities and voluntary service through which they can discover their

hidden abilities and gain a special sense of satisfaction and achievement by overcoming the challenge.

Mr. Rock Chen, Chairman of AYP Award Council remarked, “AYP is ‘More than an Awards’, it gives

young people opportunities to explore and transform. The Award impact can be felt across the globe.

It has transformed the lives of more than 7 million young people.”
