ARIZONA WILD HORSE FACTS (Updated 7/24/15)
o 1971: wild horses and burros were found on 3.6 million acres of BLM land in Arizona o Today: wild horses and burros exist on just 2.3 million acres. o Net loss: 1.3 million acres. o Source: BLM
31 x More Livestock on BLM Land in Arizona than Wild Horses and Burros:
o A maximum of 240 wild horses and 1,436 burros are allowed to graze on 2.3 million acres (Source: BLM)
o Approx. 53,000 cow/calf pairs (annual equivalent) allowed to graze on nearly 11.5 million acres of BLM land in Arizona. (Source: BLM)
o 637,520 Animal Unit Months (AUMs) forage for livestock vs. 20,112 AUMs allocated to wild horses statewide.

Removed from BLM Land in Arizona 1996 2013:
o 241 horses o 5,943 burros o 6,184 total
