o 1971: wild horses and burros were found on 3.6 million acres
of BLM land in Arizona o Today: wild horses and burros exist on

Burros:
o A maximum of 240 wild horses and 1,436 burros are allowed to
graze on 2.3 million acres (Source: BLM)
o Approx. 53,000 cow/calf pairs (annual equivalent) allowed to
graze on nearly 11.5 million acres of BLM land in Arizona. (Source:

o 637,520 Animal Unit Months (AUMs) forage for livestock vs.
20,112 AUMs allocated to wild horses statewide.
