Aztec civilization

• Aztec people lived on a floating island type village

• they grew crops year round and they thrived because they were partly in water when they were growing

• Aztec people had annual human sacrifice rituals every month

City/location

• location: first settled at the valley of Mexico (present day Mexico City)

• Traveled to Lake Texcoco years after they settled in The valley of Mexico

• Made a floating city called Tenochtitlan

Rituals and ceremonies

• Aztecs would sacrifice humans as an offering to the gods

• These sacrifices were usually young children

• They would sacrifice people because of the belief that people were food to the gods and they needed to feed the sun god or he would take away the sun

• There conqueror was Hernan Cortes

• When he came Montezuma mistaken him for the sun god and let his guard down

• At the same time small pox hit and took out half of the population

• Another reason they fell was because cortes and his CONQUETADORS bought horses and guns which the Aztecs had never seen before

• They were also unprepared for Cortes's ambush

• The main reason cortes took over was because he took the leader Montezuma hostage threatened to kill him said he wouldn’t but offed him anyway
