MMR vaccination (measles, mumps and rubella) is required by all our Cruiseline partners. Unfortunately, the childhood vaccinations are no longer acceptable. All certifications for MMR must not be over 10 years old. Please can you ensure you obtain an MMR booster prior to attending training and bring your updated certification with you to training. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT TRAINING

WHITE SHOES:These are required for UK Training, white rubber soled closed-in shoes.

DO I NEED TRAVEL AND MEDICAL INSURANCE?If you are a UK citizen, you will be covered under the NHS for any medical conditions. However, if you mislay any of your belongings either at the Academy or at the YMCA or at any of the Host Houses we use, you are not covered by any insurance.

THE YMCA, AM I AUTOMATICALLY BOOKED IN?Yes, you are automatically booked in upon receipt of your signed Training Programme Acceptance and Terms letter and providing you have sent copies of your passport and C1D visa. However, please book in as early as you can the day before your Training Date to secure your place.

HOW MUCH LUGGAGE CAN I TAKE?Maximum weight is 20 kilos. It is better to bring suitcases that can ‘fold’ down, as there is very little room in your cabin for storage.

HOW MUCH MONEY WILL I NEED?Please see Appendix at the end of this document to confirm breakdown of costs. Additionally, during training, please allow enough funds for “social expenditure”, remember, London is VERY EXPENSIVE.

When you have been given your flight details, you must have enough money to cover any additional expenses such as travel to the airport, as you know Steiner will pay for your flight, but YOU need to get yourself to the airport, and onto the ship.

BUSINESS SCHOOL TRAINING INTRODUCTION

Congratulations on being chosen as a participant for the Steiner Fitness Business School. Steiner only employs the best staff and has an international reputation for excellence second to none. Due to our standards we have high expectations of our staff and have developed a rigorous training program designed to prepare you for your new career at sea.

Ahead of you is a lot of hard work. There will be several demanding physical and mental exams you will need to pass as you train. You will be challenged and taken out of your comfort zone so that we can see how you will perform onboard and to help make you grow as a person. You will learn a large amount of information while you are here and the level of learning is at a very fast pace. You can expect to have training every single day while you are in London – including weekends. Please don’t come here with the intention of having time to go sight seeing. You will also have a minimum of two hours homework every night. Please do not expect to experience the nightlife. London has a great deal to offer and if you want to experience it I recommend you either come a week early or enjoy it after you have completed your contract.

Your time in training can be up to 12 weeks. The entire time should be seen as a job interview. Be prepared to impress us. Along with the exams, everyday you will be assessed on your knowledge, appearance, personality, and public speaking skills.

Included in this information pack and the on-line pre-learning website detailed in your “Steiner Training Starter Pack” is everything that you will need to learn before you arrive. This gives you the opportunity to practise and learn at home. We expect high standards from the first day of training.

I look forward to meeting you all.

PILATES AND YOGA: The THC Studio delivers our Yoga and Pilates modalities. At the end of your training you will not be a fully qualified Pilates or Yoga instructor. You will be able to safely teach a Fitness based class involving Pilates and Yoga concepts. You must to be warned that these 4 days are very hard. You therefore MUST actively stretch and increase your flexibility before you get to Bootcamp. Attending three Yoga and Pilates classes a week is an absolute must. You cannot learn to be flexible in 4 days of training so you need to work on this at home every day before you get here. If you can’t touch your toes you have a lot of work to do. Take the same approach as you do with resistance or cardiovascular training. If you are not improving every week you are not working hard enough at it. Visit www.tfcstudio1.com for more information. Failure to pass the Yoga and Pilates in training will stop you from being placed on a ship.

IONITHERMIE: This is a unique external detoxification program that is offered onboard ships. You will work very closely with the Ionithermist onboard so this is your opportunity to see how their treatment helps to detoxify the body.

RETAIL TRAINING: A large part of the revenue you make onboard comes from the detoxification programs and supplements that you have access to. In retail training you will learn more about how to successfully put a program together to give clients the best results. You will also learn about Spa Tours and how to promote the other services of the spa.

TOUR DE CYCLE: This is Steiner’s very own Indoor Cycling program. In this unique program you will learn all the movements and techniques needed to run a successful and safe Indoor Cycling class. It is important that you have a good base level of fitness before you arrive at Business School otherwise you will not make it through this module.

NUTRITION CONSULTATION: We will train you in the incredibly successful 40/30/30 nutrition. This balance which was made famous by the outstanding Doctor Sears offers amazing nutritional benefits including reducing symptoms of disease, increasing energy with the fastest possible speed of fat loss. Sears program has been clinically tested and proven, and is endorsed by Harvard Medical School as the best food plan for your long term health.

You will see that the majority of Business School is theory based work; the focus will be on studying a lot of information. The majority of work is reading, learning, public speaking, and consultation practise. As there is a lack of constant physical exercise during your training you will already need to be physically fit by the time you arrive in London. The course will not cover any Personal Training so your skills should already be proficient enough to be able to take a client through a 1-hour session.

TOPICS COVERED IN TRAINING

INDUCTION: This is your first day at Steiner. Suits, ties, formal interview clothing required to be worn. This is your first chance to give us a good impression of you. Here you will get an introduction to the company and what is expected of you while you are in training with us. You will have your entrance exam on this day. A test will be given to you on the material that you have been asked to learn. Pass rate is 70%. If you have learned the required work you will pass.

DETOX: From the word “Detoxification”. This is the process by which toxic substances are removed from the body. You will learn about the importance and benefits of additional detoxification methods that are simple and easy, and how these methods can help your clients to achieve a new level of success with their goals. You must have read the required information below and on the internet before attending this module and have prepared for an exam and a 15 minute presentation on toxins on the second day of training.

SEMINARS: On the first day of Business School you will be given your training manual. In these manuals will be 5 seminars that you will need to learn and present from the second day onwards. You will be evaluated and graded on this. I recommend you either bring whiteboard marker pens with you from home or purchase them as soon as possible on arrival. It is strongly recommended that you practise public speaking at home several times in front of your family and friends before you come to give you the best possible preparation to presenting at Business School. A large amount of your assessment will be on public speaking, and this will be an important part of your job onboard.

BCA TESTING & CONSULTATION: We use the BIA 310 Bioempedence machines. These are incredibly accurate computers developed by a team of scientists and engineers who have been designing body composition products for over fifteen years. Thousands of analyzers built by this team are in use by health care practitioners throughout the world. The use of this equipment is supported by clinical research. We will teach you how to test and analyze the information.

TOUR DE SPIN: This is Steiner’s very own Indoor Cycling program. Working in association with Lance Armstrong’s “Livestrong Foundation” we raise money for cancer from each and every class we run onboard. In this unique program you will learn all the movements and techniques needed to run a successful and safe Indoor Cycling class. It is important that you have a good base level of fitness before you arrive at Business School otherwise you will not make it through this module.

NUTRITION CONSULTATION: We will train you in the incredibly successful Zone Program. Developed by the outstanding Doctor Sears the program offers amazing nutritional benefits including reducing symptoms of disease, increasing energy with the fastest possible speed of fat loss. The program has been clinically tested and proven, and is endorsed by Harvard Medical School as the best food plan for your long term health.

ELEMIS: Steiner works with Elemis as the main provider of health and detoxification supplements. You will learn about the product range and its benefits and how it can be introduced and promoted to your clients to improve their results.

REQUIRED LEARNING

For most of you in your Personal Training course the topic of “Detoxification” may have been barely touched on or perhaps not even mentioned at all like they didn’t exist. Onboard the cruise ship you will be required to give public seminars on Detoxification. To give you a basic introduction to what toxins are and where they come from the following information has been put together that you will need to learn before you arrive in training. It should take you approximately 6 – 10 hours to study and learn this information. If you are not prepared to dedicate this amount of time to learning this information before you arrive you will not successfully pass training.

You will be tested on the following information on the first day you arrive in training:

HOW DO TOXINS ENTER THE BODY

A very important part of your journey into holistic health is gaining a better understanding of toxins, what they are, where they come from, and what affect they have on us. There are 4 main ways that toxins arrive in the body. Below are the headings. Use the following links to learn more on each topic.

INHALATION DIGESTION

ABORPTION REACTION

A HOLISTIC APPROACH

We take a holistic approach to healing the body and achieving optimal health. We all know that exercise works and if all of our clients would start exercising a little more they would be in better shape. But the truth of the matter is that for many people ‘more’ exercise would mean giving up precious family time. We offer a solution to this by educating our clients in a synergistic lifestyle approach. Many of us as Personal Trainers over look the importance, or lack the training to be able to step in and create a truly personalised nutrition plan for our clients, to help them achieve faster results. If our clients are good they will hopefully exercise 3-4 times per week. But if they are eating incorrectly 21 times a week no matter how good your exercise program is it’s not going to ever give them the results they want. Lastly we look at the importance of detoxification. Including methods of detoxification along side exercise and nutrition to help reduce those negative emotional and physical feelings often associated with a new lifestyle program and to maximise the speed of the results they will achieve. The benefit of combining exercise, nutrition and detoxification together is that it creates a synergistic effect promoting far greater results than doing them all individually.

PUBLIC SPEAKING

Public speaking and giving Wellness Seminars is one of our main tools we use onboard to bring people who wouldn’t normally be interested in fitness into the gym. These are extremely important. Approximately 70% of your income will come from people who have attended your seminars so they must be professional and of a high standard. If the idea of public speaking for a group of people makes you feel uncomfortable I suggest you practise now at home by speaking in front of your family and friends on a topic you feel comfortable with to help improve your confidence in public speaking – this will help you to achieve a higher grade in training. Please ask them for real and constructive feedback to help you improve.

So now that you understand how toxic you are lets look at the effect these toxins can have on our body and health.

HOW CAN TOXINS AFFECT THE BODY

THE COLON & DIGESTIVE SYSTEM: YOUR FOOD SUPPLY

All nutrition for the growth and repair of our bodies comes from the digested food moving along in the small intestines and being picked up by the blood. It is then brought directly to the liver, which further processes these food molecules into forms easily used by the cells of the body. However there are many places this can go wrong.

1. if the food is not broken down small enough due to poor chewing or little or no teeth

2. if there is a lack of digestive enzymes to break down the chewed-up food pieces to the even smaller size needed by the liver to process it for all the cells of the body

3. if the intestinal wall is so packed and coated with toxic wastes that the blood absorbs only partially what it needs.

4. if unwanted guests burrowed into the coated intestines use some of your nutrition and give off their own toxic waste products into your body

The coating of the intestinal wall is called mucoid plaque. A certain amount of mucus is normal and enables the body to function properly, but a build-up of mucus is not the natural occurrence. If this plaque is not broken up and released, no amount of cleansing of other areas of the body will have a lasting effect. The colon must be cleaned out and any unwanted guests eliminated if the rest of the body is to renew itself.

Scattered apthous ulcers are seen.

LIVER & GALLBLADDER: INTERNAL PROCESSING PLANT

There are areas in the Liver that specialize in the chemical alteration of toxic molecules into water soluble forms. These forms are less harmful and can easily be eliminated through urine via the kidneys. The liver can also eliminate harmful substances by excreting them into the bile. The gallbladder is a pear shaped pouch for bile received from the liver, which, when secreted into the small intestines, helps to digest and break down fat and cholesterol.

Bile salts contain cholesterol in a liquid form. However, if there is an excess of cholesterol and other toxins they can crystallize in the gallbladder. When this happens gallstones begin to form. One can easily see the importance of this powerful organ of elimination. If the liver is toxic the entire body will certainly suffer. In turn when the liver has been cleansed, almost all the body’s processes will be greatly strengthened.

PHYSICAL SIGNS TRADITIONALLY ASSOCIATED WITH A TOXIC LIVER & GALLBLADDER

PRIMARY SIGNS CAN INCLUDE - Easily Fatigues - Headaches, including migraines - Insomnia - Food Sensitivities

SECONDARY SIGNS - Period problems & Severe PMS - Gallstones - Alcohol & Substance Abuse - Stiff, tense, aching muscles and nerves - Weak Tendons - Eye Problems: including spots, floaters, dry eyes, cataracts, and sore eyes. - Nails: dry & over cracked - Tics & Tremors - Lack of Energy - Allergic Reactions - Hypoglycaemia - Constipation - Disturbed equilibrium

LIVER & GALLBLADDER: INTERNAL PROCESSING PLANT

The liver is a large organ weighing three pounds in the average adult and measuring about 9.5 inches across. It performs over 500 separate metabolic functions for the body. These functions can be grouped into two main actions: one, processing digested food received from the blood, and two, filtering wastes and toxins also from the blood.

The liver controls the glucose (sugar) level in the blood. It can remove or add glucose at will. This keeps the level of glucose at a constant within the blood at all times.

The liver collects newly absorbed nutrients and depending on the body’s needs can either release them into the blood or store them as fat or glycogen. The liver also stores copper, iron, and the vitamins A, B12, D, E, and K.

The liver has cells called Kupffer’s cells which ingest and break down old white and red blood cells. The Kupffer’s cells also break down some bacteria as well as toxins.

KIDNEYS & BLADDER: WATER REGULATION Water makes up over 60 percent of the body’s weight. Water helps distribute

heat throughout the body, transports nutrients and hormones, and is the medium needed for all chemical reactions to occur (such as breaking down sugar into energy). Water also dilutes toxins and absorbs waste products. The waste products of protein digestion by the liver, and excess water from every cell in the body is brought, by the blood, to the kidneys to be filtered out of the body. By controlling the amount of urine, the kidneys directly control the water level in the body. This is an extremely important process because without sufficient water no chemical reactions can take place.

The equivalent of 250 gallons of blood will pass through the kidneys daily, to be processed for the removal of toxins and excess water, while water and salt and other substances still needed by the body are reabsorbed. Approximately 2 pints of filtered liquid, which we know as urine, will remain and pass on to the bladder and exit the body. There are over two million filtering units called nephrons in the kidney. This is a lot of tubing that can become congested with mucus and other toxic deposits. When the kidneys become toxic this can affect the entire balance of the body on a very deep level. Internally cleansing can once again free up the energy of the kidneys so they are able to perform their vital functions with ease and confidence.

IN DEPTH Without oxygen one would die within three minutes. Oxygen allows all metabolic processes to occur. The lungs provide life and when they become toxic this is directly reflected in one’s quality of life. If the lungs are cleansed, there is a great source of energy and freedom that one may hardly know was possible. This is because the lungs are so closely related to every process that goes on within the human body.

SECONDARY SIGNS - Weak Voice- Tiredness- Airborne allergies- Sneezing- Excess Mucus- Spontaneous sweating- Poor sense of smell- Varicose veins- Slow healing of the Skin- Dry skin – skin siders- Sinus Problems

PRIMARY SIGNS CAN INCLUDE - Shortness of Breath - Coughing - Cold Hands - Congestion

PHYSICAL SIGNS TRADITIONALLY ASSOCIATED WITH TOXIC LUNGS IN DEPTH As we know, the liver is the body’s primary means of processing toxins. When

it becomes overwhelmed the body is affected in many ways. Because of the increased difficulty dealing with toxins in the body, one may become much more sensitive to environmental toxins, increasing allergic responses, feelings of lethargy, and lack of energy. The body is overwhelmed at its primary processing plant. When this happens, toxins begin to back up and affect other areas of the body. Also, the liver controls the body’s sugar level. In a toxic state the liver may struggle to maintain this constant level, leading to fluctuating sugar levels that can greatly affect one’s energy level.

LUNGS: AIR SUPPLY

The lungs are designed for two purposes. Both are critical to life for they must happen every moment for one to survive. First, oxygen from the air comes into the tiny little air sacs of the lungs. These air sacs are called alveoli and there are about 300 million of them in the lungs with a total surface area of around 750 square feet!! The walls of these alveoli are only one cell thick. This allows for an easy transfer between blood and air. The blood then circulates oxygen it has picked up during this process to every cell in the body.

At the cellular level oxygen is combined with sugar to produce the energy we need to live. This process is called internal respiration. Secondly, the lungs work to get rid of carbon dioxide, the waste product of the body’s energy production. This transfer also takes place over the great surface area of the lungs many alveoli. Because the lungs contain a higher concentration of oxygen and the blood a higher level of carbon dioxide, the molecules of each move to balance each other. This leads to the transfer of oxygen for carbon dioxide through the alveoli walls.

The air we breathe however is often contaminated with particles, carbon monoxide and other toxic substances. Breathing in this dirty air causes the bronchial tubes to constrict in order to trap particles in its sticky mucus. This constriction, while defending on one hand, causes us to take in less oxygen which can affect the performance of one’s body.

IN DEPTHWhen the lymphatic system becomes overly toxic, it leaves a great deal of unprocessed waste throughout one’s body. This can lead to a weak immune system, frequent colds, and an overall cloudy & weighted feeling throughout the body.

Lymphoma

Anatomical diagram, veins and arteries

L00D & SKIN The blood’s job is to deliver oxygen, food and other essential substances to all the

body’s cells, while also picking up carbon dioxide and other wastes to be sent to the organs of elimination. It also makes the blood clot when necessary, and defends the body against invasion by bacteria, viruses, and cancer cells. It regulates body temperature, maintains body pH and the fluid volume in the circulatory system.

PHYSICAL SIGNS TRADITIONALLY ASSOCIATED WITH TOXINS IN THE LYMPH SYSTEM

PHYSICAL SIGNS TRADITIONALLY ASSOCIATED WITH TOXINS IN BLOOD & SKIN

LYMPH: THE RECYCLING SYSTEM Lymph is a watery, slightly yellow liquid found in the lymphatic vessels of one’s

body. These vessels act as a drainage system for the body. Just as blood circulates throughout one’s body so does the lymph. Lymphatic vessels range in size from very large to microscopic and are found in every organ and tissue of the body. These lymphatic vessels flow alongside one’s blood vessels. However, unlike blood, lymph does not flow because of a heart “pump”. Lymph is slowly coaxed by the movement of the body’s muscles until it empties back into the blood vessels just above the heart.

The actual lymph fluid is formed when liquid plasma and protein from the blood ooze out of their capillaries and are then picked up by the almost transparent lymph capillaries (vessels). However, it is not only excess fluid from the blood that is picked up but also, nutrients, hormones, waste products of the cells, bacteria, cancer cells, and cellular debris. Also present within the lymph are lymphocytes, which disable harmful foreign invaders. During circulation lymph passes through countless lymph nodes stationed throughout its pathways. Each lymph node acts as a filter helping to destroy micro-organisms and cellular debris. Besides helping to maintain the body’s fluid balance and defend the body against disease, the lymph absorbs digested fats from the intestines and transports them to the blood.

IN DEPTHWithout kidneys one would die of poisoning. The kidneys filter and eliminate the natural waste products of metabolism. The kidneys maintain the water balance in one’s body. When the kidneys have even a slight imbalance, one’s very life force is affected. To understand why, we must look at the purpose of water. One’s body is made entirely of energy and water. Without water one would be a pile of salt. It is water that allows all the metabolic processes of the body to take place. Chemical reactions that create energy can only take place in a liquid environment. When this system is toxic, the entire body is deeply affected.

PAYMENT OF TRAINING FEE

As per “Steiner Training Starter Pack” this £400 needs to be made 4 weeks before your training date.

IN DEPTHThe blood is the body’s transportation system. Nutrients, toxic wastes, and oxygen are a few of the things transported through the blood. It is primarily the liver’s job to insure the blood remains clean. However, when any part of one’s body becomes toxic, the entire system is affected. When the blood is full of excess toxins and the liver and kidney are not completely cleansing the blood, the blood will look towards the skin as a means of toxin elimination. Attempting to “push” toxins out through the skin, can develop into rashes and other skin problems. By cleansing the blood one directly affects the skin as well.

EXTRA NOTESSeveral students have arrived recently and have had to retest components of their medical again because of elevated protein levels. This has created an extra £50 cost to them. I would suggest that the week before you have your medical you reduce your protein content if you follow a high protein lifestyle to save you the cost of having to have this test completed again.

You will need your own whiteboard markers for when you arrive at training.

FINAL WORDSMany of you will be well known for your skills and results at home in your fitness centres or training institutions. All of your training, all of your results, and all of your experience so far get reset to zero when you join us. In other words you need to be prepared to start at the bottom again and work your way up. What we see in your performance while you are at Business School determines where you are placed, not what you have already achieved at home or how many qualifications you have. This puts everyone, young and old, on the same level and gives everyone the chance to excel. Please take your time and read as much information as you can before you get to London. I would also recommend you read at least one book on sales as it will increase the amount of money you can make once you get onboard your cruise ship.

Prepare yourself for the experience of a lifetime with Steiner.
