Assessment of Non-Fuel Facilities/Services at the New York State Thruway Authority's Service Areas

The New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA) has begun an effort to revitalize all 27 of the service areas along the New York State Thruway. The project is aimed at evaluating improvements and changes at these service areas. These updates may involve new restaurant offerings, enhanced tourist centers, revised parking facilities, improved

amenities, or in some cases as warranted, reduction in services. A new level of service has been tentatively assigned for each service area based on existing operational metrics, public comments and envisioned role in the revised service area network. Depending on the proposed level of service, some areas will be expanded, others reduced

and the remainder will essentially retain their existing footprint.

As part of this conceptual level work, NYSTA must determine the potential environmental impacts of such proposed action at all 27 sites in order to better determine the feasibility and costs of the plaza revision effort.
