BA (Hons) School Business LeadershipDegree Apprenticeship

Our BA (Hons) in School Business Leadership is ideal for those employed as abusiness manager within a school or other educational contexts.

Why study School Business Leadership with us?

This course sits within a Faculty awarded Outstanding by Ofsted for Primary and Secondary Teacher Education in 2016. The tutors on the course are experts in their fi eld, and provide a rich and varied wealth of experience and subject knowledge that enhances the student experience through university sessions and personal tuition.

A range of stakeholders have been involved in the design of the course in order to foster engagement with the depth and breadth of expertise across the Children’s wider workforce. The National Association of School Business Management (NASBM – www.nasbm.co.uk) has jointly written the apprenticeship standards for this qualifi cation, and has a strong relationship with the University of Chester.

The course has been designed to allow individuals with relevant professional qualifi cations such as the Certifi cate and Diploma in School Business Management to gain advanced standing in relation to the BA (Hons) in School Business Leadership.

What will I learn?

Your knowledge and understanding of key theoretical perspectives will be used to facilitate the investigation and understanding of leading support/business elements within education. These elements will include the consideration of issues of fi nance, leading teams, procurement, project management and policy development. The course provides an introduction to current education research methodologies in order to foster the ability to evaluate evidence.

In Year 1 (Level 4), the focus is on understanding professional and organisational contexts, including aspects of marketing.

In Year 2 (Level 5), the focus is on leading and managing people, projects and resources, including fi nancial management.

In Year 3 (Level 6), the focus is on governance and educational research.

How will I be taught?

We will deliver the course at Warrington Campus.

You will benefi t from varied learning environments such as lectures, seminars, and work-based learning in your own setting. There will also be opportunities to work in small groups and as an individual with a personal tutor.

The course is taught through a combination of face-to-face sessions (one per half term) and extensive online resources.

Assessment

You will be assessed via a wide range of assessment types, such as presentations, portfolios, coursework, essays, work-based learning and examinations.

Work Based Learning

This is a Degree Level Apprenticeship and you will make full use of learning within your workplace.

Careers

The course aims to develop your professional knowledge, skills and understanding of leading the business aspect of education in your current context by building on the experiences and expertise which you will bring with you to the course.

Programme Leader – Staff Profi le

Steve Lambert has extensive experience ineducation, including secondary and furthereducation, local and national government. He has been chair of the fi nance committee at a large primary school and is active at a national level ineducation funding, including supporting schools with maximising their funding. He is an active researcher and his recent work has focused oneducation accountability and leverage leadership.

Entry Requirements

We will consider a wide range of Level 3 qualifi cations for entry, including A Levels, Access/CACHE Diplomas, BTEC Extended Diplomas, Certifi cate and/or Diploma in School Business Management, etc. GCSE at grade C/4 in Maths and English Language is essential for entry.

professional practice, and is the only course of its type.

The course will encourage you to challenge and reframe

contemporary orthodoxies about non-pedagogic leadership against a backdrop of continuously changing

government agendas.

Our course has a high degree of relevance to professional standards

and practices.
