ABOUT MARATHA MANDIR
A TRIBUTE TO A VISIONARY :
(It is said that the heights great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight but they, while their
companions slept, were toiling upwards in the night). Late Shri G. G. Gawde, affectionately known as Babasaheb
Gawde, was one such person. A visionary, with a strong zeal to educate the people, gave up a promising career
from the Police Department of British India and dedicated himself to this mission. He established Maratha Mandir in
1945, a charitable institution open to one and all, irrespective of caste and creed, religion and language. Today the
edifice stands tall at Mumbai Central, offering a proactive and multi-pronged program that prepares students for
significant roles in the future. We pay tribute to this legendary figure, driven by determination and enterprise. We
thank him for setting up such a fine institution. Through Maratha Mandir, his spirit will live on forever.
THE MILESTONES:
lMaratha Mandir, over its 60 years of existence has carved a niche for social, cultural and educational life in
the state of Maharashtra. Maratha Mandir has many branches and a wide range of Programmes / Activities.
lBABASAHEB GAWDE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY offers Three-year full time diploma courses in the
disciplines of Electronics & Telecommunication, Computer Technology & Computer Engineering, affiliated to
Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education and approved by AICTE.
lBabasaheb Gawde Institute of Management Studies offers two year full time Masters course in
Management Studies recognized by AICTE, Govt. of Maharashtra & Affiliated to University of Mumbai.
It also offers two year full time AICTE approved Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM).
lThe Vidyavardhini branch runs primary schools, high schools, Junior college, D.Ed college and Vocational
courses all over Maharashtra where in more than 20,000 students are studying.
lMaharashtra Dnyanapeeth branch conducts examinations in subjects such as English, Sanskrit, Marathi,
Mathematics, Drawing and General Knowledge for students in Primary and Secondary School. Till date more
than 10,00,000 students have appeared for those examinations.
lAbhyas Mandir branch has dedicated a Study Room accommodating about 50 students at a time at Mumbai
Central for the benefit of poor students.
lVanita Vishwa offers "Sansar Shastra" courses for housewives. Till date more than 2500 ladies have
completed this course.
lKala Kendra seeks to promote better understanding of Indian classical music, dance & Drama
lLegal Aid Center offers free Legal Aid to the destitute.
lBabasaheb Gawde Hospital caters to the medical needs of weaker section of the society.
INSTITUTE PROFILE
BABASAHEB GAWDE INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (BGIT) is an All India Council for Technical
Education (AICTE), New Delhi & Government of Maharashtra approved Diploma level NON-AIDED institute. It was
founded in 1997 with only two branches and within a short span of Seventeen years it has grown incredibly.

The institute has been continuously improving in every respect & specially in imparting quality technical
education, which is evident from its results, which was 95% overall in MSBTE summer 2014 examination. Out of
this, 85% students scored first class & proceeded for further studies. The Institute also inculcates ethical &
moral values in the students to enable them to be worthy citizens.

lAt BGIT, we strive to impart total quality education comprising both physical and intellectual growth of each
student. They are groomed by a very experienced faculty coupled with the dedicated efforts of a dynamic
management, so that the students emerge as potential citizens and boons to industries.
lAppointing a class In charge for each and every class (which is a unique policy of BGIT) to identify the
difficulties/problems of the students and provide possible solutions with the help of faculties/staff members.
lA teaching plan for every subjects is made at the beginning of every academic semester by the respective
faculty members. We make sure that this plan is implemented through out the semester efficiently. This is
monitored and controlled by H.O.D.s and the Principal.
lThe joint interactive meeting of parents, students and faculties, held in every semester, is another unique
feature of BGIT, which forms the backbone of creating atmosphere conducive to proper learning and
teaching process.
lWe are very particular and strict about attendance of each student for theory and practical classes. This is
monitored on monthly basis, parents are kept informed, and reformative action is taken in case of the
defaulters
lPreliminary exams are conducted in order to prepare and familiarize the students for the impending board
examinations. Our good results are the testimony to the effectiveness of this process.

In this era of information and communication, more digitally enhanced communication devices like mobiles,
satellite, and internet are paving way for wider reach of communication technology. As a result there is great
demand for trained professionals in this industry.
JOB PROSPECTUS AND CAREER OPTION
Engineers from this field can work in service organizations such as broadcasting, consulting, data communication,
entertainment, research and development. These engineers can also build their bright career in the industries like
television, communication and Railway Signaling and control.
After successful completion of the diploma or bachelors course students can choose master program for higher
education.

COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Computer Technology engineers apply the principles of computer science and mathematical analysis to the
design, development, testing, and evaluation of the software and systems that make computers work. The tasks
performed by these workers evolve quickly, reflecting new areas of specialization or changes in technology, as well
as the preferences and practices of employers. These engineers can be involved in the design and development of
many types of software, including computer games, word processing and business applications, operating
systems and network distribution, and compilers, which convert programs to machine language for execution on a
computer.
JOB PROSPECTUS AND CAREER OPTION
Computer Technology student can work as software engineer, software is the set of programmed instructions that
enable a computer to perform specified functions. Computer Technology engineer can also work as web developer,
game developer and database developer.

COMPUTER ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
Computer Engineering is a discipline that combines both Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Computer
engineers usually have training in electrical engineering, software design and hardware-software integration
instead of only software engineering or electrical engineering Computer engineering, one of the most rapidly
growing fields today, helps us to solve modern engineering problems using design, development and application of
digital and computer-based systems.
JOB PROSPECTUS AND CAREER OPTION
Computer engineers are involved in writing software and firmware for embedded micro controllers, designing VLSI
chips, designing analog sensors, designing mixed signal circuit boards, and designing operating systems.
Computer engineers are also suited for robotics research which relies heavily on using digital systems to control
and monitor electrical systems like motors, communications and sensors.

MSBTE curriculum is based on Semester pattern. We follow the same & schemes of examination of
above mentioned courses. The detailed information is available in the institute or can be obtained from MSBTE web

LIBRARY
BGIT Library boasts of a collection of more than 8000 books, journals of national & international repute,
project reports, educational CDs, government publication and wide range of daily news paper. Photocopy facility is
also provided.
The Institute has also tied up with the globally renowned seat of learning INSTITUTE OF ELECTRICAL AND
ELECTRONICS (IEEE) to procure comprehensive study materials of various streams.
With a view to motivate students and faculty members to go for more sophisticated and graded study, the
Institute has excess to the scholastic resources of Association for Computing Machinery (ACM)
Air-conditioned Computer Laboratories :
Computer laboratories are the proud assets of BGIT which have 350 terminals, equipped with high
performance Core-2-duo nodes and high-speed servers in a LAN environment. Spacious and well equipped,
laboratories offer students state-of-the art tools and technology. The LAN is supported by operating systems like
Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2003 server, Windows 2008 server, Linux and UNIX server. It is also supported by
advance software like Visual Studio, Dot net, Java, office XP, C, C++, Developer 2000, ADOBE etc.
Round the clock "INTERNET" connectivity facilitated by Lease Line of 'Reliance Communications' is
provided to equip the students with comprehensive knowledge.
Electronics Laboratories:
The electronics department has 15 Laboratories with ultra modern equipments such as microwave test
bench, Mobile trainer kit, logic analyzers, VLSI design tools, Advance Microprocessors & microcontrollers. These
laboratories have facilities to demonstrate communication techniques along with industrial electronics application.
Cafeteria:
BGIT cafeteria is run by professional caterers. Here, students can truly take a break with sumptuous snacks
and regular lunch. It is a good place for interaction and sharing experiences with one another.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
SPORTS:
uBGIT is a member of state level Inter Engineering Diploma students sports Association (IEDSSA).
uBGIT organizes Carrom & Chess Tournaments for the association
A state level project competition cum exhibition is organized every year. The objective of this venture is to
kindle and rejuvenate the instincts of creativity and innovation in the minds of engineering students which
encourage them to design models/project having commercial utility for the benefit of the society.
International Conference was organized in association with Springer publication and
technically sponsored by IEEE (Bombay Section), Siemens and PCS Technologies. The objective of this grand
event is to provide the budding engineers, academicians, research fellows, professionals and students, a suitable
curricula

platform to display their hidden talent much of which otherwise dies down due to lack of opportunity. It is here that
they can realize their potential and give their imagination a tangible shape.
KSHITIJ :
An intra college cultural festival-KSHITIJ is organized by BGIT, with a view to promote personal development
of students by providing opportunities to exhibit their capabilities in extra curricular activities.

FUTURE PROSPECTS IN PROFESSIONAL CAREER FOR BGIT STUDENTS :
Diploma holders have a bright chance of pursuing careers in the IT and other industries. They have a lot of
opportunities in the field of Software development, Maintenance or Servicing, Marketing, Sales, Networking,
Instrumentation, Power Sector in companies like INFOSYS, PCS, TCS, SIEMENS, WIPRO, Reliance energy,
MSEB etc.
Self-employment is also an excellent alternative because there is huge requirement for various installations,
maintenance and repair services of machinery, equipment, and appliances in use in the modern workplace and
houses.
FUTURE PROSPECTS IN ACADEMIC CAREER :
Students are eligible to take admission in second year of degree program in any engineering college in
Maharashtra or any other state in India. Diploma holders and working engineers can apply for membership and
appear for AMIE or IETE examination, which are considered equivalent to degree in engineering.
Diploma holders are eligible for various 'Post Diploma' courses conducted in the field of software, medical
electronics, hardware maintenance network engineering etc.
Students can also seek admission in relevant programs in foreign universities.
ADMISSION
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA :
l Admission to First year Diploma Course :
Eligibility criteria for Maharashtra State / Outside Maharashtra State / Jammu & Kashimir Migrant / Government
of India Nominees / Candidate for admission to First year of diploma courses in Engineering / Technology.
Candidate should be an Indian National and should have passed the SSC (Std.X) examination of Maharashtra
State Board of Secondary Education or its equivalent, with subjects Maths/Mathematics, General Science and
English, with minimum 35% aggregate marks.

Note : Admissions are effected exactly as per the rules specified by Directorate of Technical Education, Govt of
Maharashtra from time to time.
lAdmission to Second year Diploma course :
lAdmission to Third year Diploma course :
The candidate who have completed diploma in one discipline (Computer to Electronics Groups) can seek
admission to another discipline (Computer/Electronic groups only). The candidate desirous to seek direct
admission shall have to obtain eligibility certificate from MSBTE for which they should apply in prescribed
format through the Principal.
lAdmission to Candidates who had taken admission to First year diploma course during the previous
academic year :
A candidate who had taken admission to first year of diploma course during the previous academic year is
eligible for admission to first year diploma course during the current academic year subject to the condition
that the earlier admission is cancelled before the last date for submission of application form for the current
year. Such candidates will not be eligible for exemption of any subjects passed during the earlier admission.
TYPE OF CANDIDATURE
A candidate is considered eligible for admission to the seats of Maharashtra State coming under the purview of
competent authority subject to fulfillment of any one of the eligibility requirements as listed in the following table.
Candidate should be Indian National and must have passed HSC Science / HSC Bifocal (Technical)/ with
Mathematics as compulsory subject. OR Candidate should be Indian National and have passed HSC
Vocational (MCVC) of Higher Secondary Certificate (Std. XII) or 10+2 ITI/ITI COE with 3 modules with
appropriate specialization from Maharashtra State should have passed SSC (10th Std) or equivalent
examination with subjects English, Maths (Code 71) and Science(Code 72)

Father / Mother Govt. / Govt. of India of the candidate is a central Govt. / Govt. of India Undertaking Undertaking employee) employee who is posted in Maharashtra and reported for duty
before the last date for submitting of application form.

NATIONALITY :
The candidate must be an Indian National. Candidates having any other Nationality must produce Eligibility
certificate from Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education, Mumbai.
AGE LIMIT :
There shall not be age limit for admission.
Reservations :
The various reservation provisions provided for the seats under the purview of competent authority are
detailed here. The seats earmarked for N.C.C. candidates and J and K candidates and Govt. of India nominees do
not have further internal reservation.
lProvision of 15% seats for candidates passing SSC examination with Technical / vocational subjects
l15% seats of the sanctioned intake, course wise, shall be reserved for the candidates passing Std. X
examination with Technical / vocational subjects as prescribed by the Directorate Of Vocational Education,
Maharashtra State.
lFor deciding the merit of such candidates, the marks scored by the candidate in the SSC Examination, without
considering the marks scored by the candidate in the Technical / vocational subjects, shall be considered.
lThe seats reserved for these candidates shall have further reservation among themselves for the Backward
Class categories mentioned in these Rules.
Reservation for Backward Class Candidates :
The percentage of seats reserved for the backward class candidates from Maharashtra State are as per the
details in table below. The percentages of reservation are the percentages of the sanctioned intake capacity for the
course in all Govt. / Govt. Aided and Unaided Polytechnics except for the institutes having minority status. In case of
minority institutes, the percentage of reservation are the percentage of the seats available for non-minority
candidates. Backward class candidates shall claim the category to which they belong at the time of application. If a
candidate fails to claim reservation for backward class on the application and subsequently claims reservation at
the time of admission by producing necessary documents, such claim shall not be considered.

Note : 1) The candidates claiming SBC category shall be eligible for seat in open category and also for seats
remaining vacant after admission of the candidate from Backward class category. The reservation
shall not exceed 2% of the sanctioned intake capacity.
2) Students belonging to reserved categories will not be entitled for scholarship/freeship if the same is
not granted by the social welfare department of Govt. of Maharashtra.
Documents for supporting the reservation claim for Backward Class candidates :
The documents required for supporting the backward class reservation claim made by Candidates are as per
the details given in the following table.

Physically Handicapped Candidates :
As per the provisions in Clause 39 of Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation Act 1995,
three per cent (3%) seats of total sanctioned intake capacity of Government and Government Aided colleges shall
be reserved for physically handicapped candidates. These seats are within the sanctioned intake capacity and
taken from minority seats in case of Institutions having minority status.
This reservation shall be applicable for following types of physically handicapped candidates :
> Blind / visually impaired candidates, (PI)
> Speech & hearing impaired (deaf & dumb) candidates, (P2)
> Candidates with orthopaedic disorders and learning disabilities, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphica, Spastic
(P3).
Note : It should be noted that the physically handicapped candidates on a admission to Diploma course will not be
given any exemptions or additional facilities in the academic activities other than those which may be provided by
the MSBTE and respective Institutions.
Reservation for female candidates :
As per the provisions in Govt. Resolution No. GEC-1000/(123/2000) Tech. Edu.-I, dated 17 April, 2000,
30% seats shall be reserved for female candidates in all the Government, Non Govt.-Aided Polytechnics
in all the courses. This reservation shall be with in the categories like Open, SC, ST, VJ, NT-B, NT-C, NT-D and
OBC.
ADMISSION PROCEDURES AND CANCELLATION :
Admission rules & regulations may be amended by DTE from time to time which will be binding on all students.

ADMISSIONS :
Admissions will be effected strictly as per merit and reservations policy stipulated by Govt. of Maharashtra.
Admission schedule will be notified on the Notice board in the institution one day prior to the date of declaration of
results of qualifying i.e. S.S.C. examination of Maharashtra State.
Admission will be confirmed only on payment of prescribed fees in full.
FEES : As prescribed by Shikshan Shulka Samiti of Govt. of Maharashtra state from time to time.
Caution Money Deposit : In addition to fees, a refundable deposit of Rs. 2000/- will be taken to take care of any
loss of lab equipments, library books, damage to the institutional property etc. by any student.
CANCELLATION OF ADMISSION AND REFUND OF FEES:

Candidate who has been admitted may cancel admission by submitting an application in duplicate, in the
prescribed proforma, may request for refund of fees. The refund of fees as applicable shall be made in due course.
It is made clear that such application for cancellations will be considered if and only if the admission in confirmed by
paying the prescribed tuition fee and other fees in full and by submitting the original documents.
Refund shall be made after deduction of cancellation charges as shown below.
Note : Entire amount of security / caution money deposit is to be refunded back.

CODE OF CONDUCT :
The students while studying in the Institute, if found indulging in anti-national activities contrary to the
provisions of Acts and Laws enforced by Government or in any activity contrary to institutional code of conduct
(available in the institution), will be liable to be punished as per the law and / or rules.
Full code of conduct document is available in the library of the institution and on of institute website. Copy can
be purchased at Rs. 100/- from the library.
ACTION AGAINST RAGGING :
I. AICTE Regulations :
In view of the directions of Honorable Supreme Court in S. L.P. No. 24295 of 2006 dated 16/05/2007 and in civil
appeal no. 887 of 2009 dated 08/05/2009 to prohobit, prevent and eliminate the scourge of ragging AICTE has
formed the regulations which are available on AICTE web link. Every student and parents/guardians have to furnish
affidavits separately in the stipulated format given in AICTE regulations.
Submission of AFFIDAVITS at the time of admission is MANDATORY
II. Maharashtra Prohibition of Ragging Act 1999, which is in effect from 15th May 1999, has the following
provisions for Action against Ragging.
a. Ragging within or outside of any educational institution is prohibited.
b. Whosoever directly or indirectly commits, participates in, abets, or propagates ragging within or outside any
educational institution shall, on conviction, be punished with imprisonment for a term up to 2 years and / or
penalty, which may extend to ten thousand rupees.
c. Any student convicted of an offence of ragging shall be dismissed from the educational institution and such
student shall not be admitted in any other educational institution for a period of five years from the date of order
of such dismissal.
d. Whenever any student or, as the case may be, the parent or guardian or a teacher of an educational institution
complains, in writing of ragging to the head of the educational institution, the head of the educational institution
shall, without prejudice to the forgoing provisions, within seven days of the receipt of the complaint, enquire into
the matter through institutional anti ragging squad mentioned in the complaint and if, prima facie, it is found
true, suspend the student who is accused of the offence, and shall, immediately forward the complaint to the
police station having jurisdiction over the area in which the educational institution is situated, it is found that
there is no substance, prima facie, in the complaint received, he/she shall intimate the fact, in writing, to the
complaint. The decision of the head of the educational institution shall be final.

e. If the head of the educational institution fails or neglects to act in the manner specified in section "d" above
when a complaint of ragging is made, such person shall be deemed to have abetted the offence and shall, on
conviction, be punished as provided for in section "b" above.
