BACHELOR DEGREE IN PHYSIOHERAPY

(Session-2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016- 2017)

ORDINANCE

1. A candidate for the Bachelor Degree in Physiotherapy will pursue his/

her studies in Punjabi University, Patiala for four academic Sessions

(Eight Semesters) and six months compulsory internship after passing

the final examination. Each academic session shall consist of two

semesters. The date of examinations for first, third, fifth and seventh

semesters will be held in the month of November/December and the

examination for the second, fourth, sixth and eighth semesters shall be

held in the month of April/ May or on such other dates as may be fixed

by the University Authorities.

2. (i) Last date by which the examination form completed in all respects

along with examination fee must reach the registrar shall be as

follows:

(ii) Incomplete form or forms of candidates who have not cleared his

/her all dues will not be accepted.

(iii) The amount of examination fee to be paid by a candidate for each

semester shall be as prescribed by the University from time to time.

1. Candidate seeking admission must possess the following:

a. Have attained or shall attain the age of 17 Years on 31st

December of the year of his/her admission to the department.

b. Have Passed 12th standard examination conforming to 10+2

system (Medical Stream i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Biology) of

the Punjab School Education Board/ Central Board of

Secondary Examination or equivalent with 50% marks.

2. The admission will be based on the criteria decided by the Punjabi

University, Patiala for admission.

3. The candidate seeking admission to the course shall be medically fit.

In addition to furnishing a medical certificate he/she shall undergo a

medical and physical examination by the medical officer on the basis

of which his/ her admission shall be decided.

4. Every candidate shall pay the fees as prescribed by the authorities at

the time of admission.

5. The students admitted to the course shall attend such lecture classes,

practical classes, clinical postings and seminars as prescribed in the

course.

6. The students shall be considered to have completed the course, if they

have attended not less than 75% of the theory & practical classes

separately. Condonation of lectures will be as per University rules.

7. The candidate shall be examined in such theory papers and practical

examinations as may be prescribed in the syllabus approved by the

Academic Council.

8. The medium of instruction shall be English. The Candidate must

answer questions in the examination in English only.

9. A Candidate shall be declared to have passed the examination if he/she

obtained not less than 50% of the marks in theory & practical papers

separately.

a. Subject to fulfillment of requirement of House examinations,

the attendance requirements and these ordinances there will be

no condition of passing papers for promotion from odd

semester to even semester in an Academic Session. To qualify

for admission to 2nd year of the Course, the candidate must

have passed 50% of total papers of the two semesters of

the 1st year. Similarly, to qualify for admission to 3rd year of

the course, the candidate should have passed 50% of total

papers of four semesters of the earlier two years.

b. A candidate placed under reappear in any paper, will be

allowed two chances to clear the reappear, which should be

availed within consecutive two years/chances i.e. to pass in a

paper the candidate will have a total of three chances, one as

regular student and two as reappear candidate.

c. The examination of reappear papers of odd semester will be

held with regular examination of the odd semester and reappear

examination of the even semester will be held with

regular examination of even semester. But if a candidate is

placed under reappear in the last semester of the course, he

will be provided chance to pass the reappear with the

examination of the next semester, provided his/her reappear of

lower semester does not go beyond next semester.

10. All the examinations shall be conducted by the Board of Examiners to

be appointed by the University on the recommendation of Board of

Studies. In each theory paper there will be an external examiner. The

Practical examination will be conducted by the Board of examiners

consisting of:

a. External Examiner

b. Internal Examiner

c. Head of the Department

11. The examination will consist of papers according to the syllabus

prescribed for that part. The duration of each paper and the allotment

of marks for each paper will be as per the scheme of examination

approved by the Board of Studies.

12. The examinations for BPT Semester I, III, V & VII will be held in the

month of November/December and the examination for Semester II,

IV, VI & VIII shall be held in the month of April/ May or such other

dates as may be fixed by the Academic Council/ Controller of

Examination.

(i) Each paper shall have 30% Internal Assessment and 70% marks for

External Examination

(ii) The internal assessment weightage will be based on following criteria:

(iii) The breakup of marks for the above will be decided by the ACD of the

Department at the beginning of the semester.

(iv) The teacher/teachers concerned/in charge of each paper/practical class

will be responsible for the evaluation and submission of the internal

assessment.

(v) The minimum marks required to pass an examination shall be

aggregate of 50% (combined internal and external examinations) of

the total marks and also the candidate must secure 50% marks in the

external examination.

(vi) For a candidate who fails in a paper(s), his internal assessment

examination for all paper will be carried over and the supplementary

examination will; therefore, consists of only an external examination.

Note: The Internal Assessment will be formulated and sent to COE as per

prescribed schedule, failing which the result of the concerned candidates

will be shown as R.L.

13. Internship: After passing VIII semester in university examination,

student may start Compulsory Rotatory Internship (CRI) immediately

in medical colleges/district hospitals or multispeciality hospitals or

Rehab centers recognized by Department of Physiotherapy, Punjabi

University, Patiala for the purpose of internship and should ensure that

their duties to be placed in following departments/ units for atleast of

minimum stipulated periods as mentioned below in Table.

The candidate shall submit a project under the supervision of a teacher

of the department during internship. The internship will be considered

to be completed only on successful presentation of the project in front

of a board, appointed for this purpose. In case, the project is found

unsatisfactory the internship period can be extended maximum upto

two months, left to the discretion of the HOD. In such case the

extended duration of internship has to be completed in the university

OPD only.

The interns shall maintain the record of work which is to be verified

and certified by Sr. Physiotherapist under whom he/she works. Based

on the record of work/project and evaluation of project, the HOD shall

issue “Certificate of Satisfactory Completion” of internship following

which University shall award the BPT degree or declare the candidate

eligible for the same.

14. All successful candidates will be classified as under:

a. Those who obtain not less than 60% marks-First division (in

aggregate of theory and practical examination taken together)

b. All candidates who obtain less than 60% marks- Second

Division

c. All candidate securing 75% marks or above, in theory paper

OR in practical shall be declared to have obtained distinction

that paper(s).

15. The ordinance is subject to addition/amendments as approved by the

competent authority.

16. Grace Marks: One percent of the total marks and weight age can be

distributed in one paper and all the paper / according to the general

ordinances relating to “Award of Grace Marks”.

INSTRUCTION FOR THE PAPER SETTER

The question paper will consist of three sections i.e. A, B, and C. Section A

and B will have four questions each from respective sections of syllabus and will

carry 10 marks each. Out of which students have to attempt two questions each

from section A and B. Section C will consist of 15 short answer type questions of 2

marks each. This section will cover the entire syllabus uniformly and will carry 30

marks in all.
