Important Dates

• Monday November 18th

– $100.00 non-refundable deposit due AND permission slip and emergency form

– If this initial down payment is not in by this date, students will not be permitted to attend the field trip.

• Monday January 13th – $100.00 due

• Monday February 24th – Final payment of $100.00 due

What to Expect

• Hotel rooms will consist of four same gender roommates.

• Roommates will be chosen by students ahead of time.

• There will be two double beds in each room. Students will be sharing a bed with another student!

• Girls will be located on one hotel floor and boys will be located on a separate floor.

• Students will have to complete a reflective journal during the trip. This journal will be graded and count towards a Social Studies, Science, L.A. and Math formal grade!

• Students will travel from place to place with their chaperone and assigned group members.

• The $300 cost includes transportation, hotel accommodations, most meals and entrance into the museums/activities.

Behavior Requirements

• Students will not be permitted on the field trip if they have incurred TWO IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSIONS or ONE OUT OF SCHOOL SUSPENSION by the start of 2nd quarter up to the day of the trip.

• No refunds of the initial $100 will be given, especially due to breaking behavior requirements.

• All students are required to represent Piedmont respectfully while visiting Washington DC and will be sent home for any infractions or misbehavior.

• All school rules (dress code, language, etc.) still apply while visiting Washington DC. If they are broken, they will be addressed accordingly.

• Also students must have 12 hours of community service completed by the end of the 2nd quarter

• $15 • They are here and available for purchase!• We would like all students to have one to

wear on special occasions for easy identification when in a large group

MAP Testing/State Testing

• MAP = Measures of Academic Progress• MAP is given for Reading and Math• MAP purpose is a universal screener given 3

times a year to target instruction.• MAP Scores will be used to determine placement

for eighth grade.• MAP test schedule 1st round: September 9 –

October 12• State Test (EOG last ten days of school)

Design Cycle/Technology

• The Design Cycle Components are embedded in the Humanities Curriculum. This is a primary focus during project assignments

• This will be in a separate section of the humanities notebook for documentation.

• Investigate – Research/Discovery• Design – What will it look like• Plan – what will I need/time and materials• Create – Make it!• Evaluate – How did it go?

Projects

• Expect 1 project/ quarter per subject• Due dates are discussed as a 7th grade team to

prevent overlapping of projects being due at the same time.

• One or Two projects may coincide but the logistics of time management has been thought out before hand.– Time will be allocated for projects to be worked on in

class– Students will need to mange their time wisely

Homework Expectations

• HW is given daily and on the weekends • HW is graded for effort most of the time• “I didn’t understand” is not an excuse to not do

homework• Students must show all work on homework for full

credit. (If in doubt, work it out)
