What exactly is a modular pool?‘Modular’ is the technical term for what has often been called an ‘above-ground’ pool. But, these days, there’s a great deal more to it than that.

Above-Ground Pools These pools sit on level ground and can be installed very quickly and cost effectively. If you move home, they can even move with you!

Semi In-Ground Pools These pools are perfect for uneven ground where both excavation and decking are necessary.

In-Ground Pools These pools can be decked and landscaped to achieve the look and feel of the most expensive concrete or fibreglass pools but at a fraction of the cost.

The Whitsunday is our top of the range and most popular pool. It’s been re-engineered to use all-resin components that make it highly resistant to corrosion and suitable for both liquid chlorine and saltwater systems.

Saltwater has the advantage of being gentler on the skin and easier to maintain. And, as it uses less chemicals, it’s also cheaper to run.

The Whitsunday has been engineered for above, semi and in-ground installations and comes with a 15 year pro-rata warranty.

The Lindeman pool is Australia’s strongest semi-inground pool and has been designed to give you years of hassle-free enjoyment.

The Mission Beach is our entry level

Stern’s range.

It has been designed specifically to be installed above ground. The slimline posts and framework are topped with a wider coping that makes getting in and out much easier. The combination of birch grey wall and white framework gives this pool a sleek look that is perfect for any modern backyard.

As with all Stern’s pools, the Mission Beach is covered by a 10 year pro-rata warranty.

What’s the difference between a ‘modular’ pool and an above-ground or in-ground pool?

As the name suggests, a modular pool is made of panels and elements that can be configured to create a range of shapes and sizes. In many respects, it is the next generation of above-ground pools.

Both can be installed above ground, but a modular pool can rest partially in-ground if the site is not level and some excavation is required. An in-ground pool is usually made of fibreglass or concrete and is both expensive and difficult to install.

However, a modular pool can be also installed in-ground and achieve the same look and feel but for a fraction of the cost.

What are the pools lined with?

Our pools are lined with premium quality, coloured PVC that is shaped and welded to fit your pool at our factory in New South Wales.

What shapes are available?

Across the range there are five basic shapes – round, oval, rectangular, keyhole and raindrop. As our system is modular, some models can be built to custom specifications.

How deep can my pool be?

As long as you choose a pool that is at least 3.8 metres wide, we can build a pool that is up to 1.8 meters in depth. (Our standard depths are 1.2 and 1.37 metres.)

How long do modular pools last in the ground?

With proper maintenance, we expect our pools to last for 15-20 years. We’ve seen them last for a lot longer. And we issue a minimum 10-year pro-rata warranty.

What are Stern’s pools made of?

The structure is made from the thickest galvanised steel available on the pool market. The walls are made from Australian BlueScope Flexographic steel.

Where are Stern’s pools made?

We’re a proudly Australian company. All of our pool structures and PVC liners

are made in our factory in Lurnea, New South Wales.

How much do modular pools cost?

As a DIY project, your budget could be as little as $3000! Full installation would come closer to $10,000.

Do Stern’s pools come with a warranty?

Yes. All Stern’s pools come with a minimum 10-year pro-rata warranty.

Do you have a display centre?

Yes. Our NSW showroom is at 330 Hoxton Park Road, Lurnea and open from 8.00am – 5.00pm during the week and by appointment at the weekend.

At our website, sternspools.com.au, you can find details of our nationwide network of distributors, many of whom have pools on display.

Can these pools be installed on top of concrete.

Yes. We do a lot of pools like this for swim schools and hotels.

Will I need council approval to install a pool?

Yes. Regulations vary from state to state. You’ll need to go to your council website or offices to submit an application.

How do I determine what pool is right for me?

We’ll help you. There are a number of factors to consider – the size and level of your block of land, the shape you feel would suit your backyard, how the pool will be used and so on.

Our website has an interactive selector to assist you and we’re more than happy to help you answer these questions over the phone.

Will my pool require a surrounding fence?

Almost certainly. Your council planning department will give you the exact specifications of any barriers required.

How long does installation take?

With a professional installer, as little as one or two days.

Which filter is best for my pool?

There are a range of factors to consider – local environment, weather, pool size, water type and personal preference. We, or your installer, will be very happy to advise.

Can I install lighting in a modular pool?
