Holders of the Older or Disabled Persons travel entitlement will receive Free travel on buses throughout Scotland and in addition, residents of Highland will enjoy freeferry travel and half fare travel on train journeys within Highland. Holders of the Scotlandwide Blind Scheme card and their companions can travel free on journeys wholly within Highland. The card holder can also travel free onjourneys throughout Scotland although this benefit does not extend to the companion. Young Persons will receive 1/3rd off the single adult bus fare, a railcard valid throughout Scotland, allowing a discount of up to 1/3rd on train travel and 2 return ferryvouchers to the mainland for island residents. Cairngorm Mountain Railway

Cairngorm Mountain Funicular Railway transports visitors to the Ptarmigan Top Station, nestled just below the summit of Cairngorm. The Top station offers spectacularviews from the terrace, the Shop @ the Top, panoramic Ptarmigan restaurant and a mountain exhibition. The railway provides an opportunity for all ages and abilitiesto enjoy the Cairngorm Mountain experience in comfort and safety.

They are open daily throughout the year (except Christmas Day and for scheduled maintenance in November. The November shutdown normally lasts 10 days - pleasecheck the web site for detailed dates closer to your visit). The journey to the top takes approximately 8 minutes and once you reach the Ptarmigan Station you can weatherwatch from the viewing terrace. Visitor guides are on hand from May through to October and they will be happy to identify distant summits and tell you more aboutthe history, geology and lore of this area and how it constantly changes as the seasons roll by.
