Literacy

We read several versions of

“The Elves and the Shoemaker” this week.We

have sent home another

book from the grant

program, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”.

We have added two more

sight word songs this week:

love and go. Please help your

child notice thee new words

as you read together.

We created marbleized eggs

by using shaving cream and

food coloring. We also

painted eggs by using pom

poms as our brush.

Jesus Time

This week we read about

Jesus’ suffering on the

cross, His death and

resurrection. Good Friday

was a sad, bad day when

Jesus gave His life for our

sins but it followed three

days later with a glad day

when Jesus rose again to

show that he conquered the

death.

In 3K we really enjoyed creating

our mock stain glass project and

cannot wait to get to take them

home for Easter. During Jesus

time, we are continuing to talk

about the events leading up to

C h r i s t ’ s C r u c i f i x i o n a n d

Resurrection. We spent time

talking about circles this week. A

great way to keep practicing shape

recognition is to continue showing

your child different objects and

having them identify the shape

(circle, triangle, square, rectangle).

We will be learning a new snack

prayer for the month of April. It

goes to the tune of "This Old Man"

and the words are: "Jesus, come,

be our guest. Let these gifts to us

be blest. For the things, you give

us every day. A song of thanks we

now wi l l say . Amen ." In

Kindergarten, we also had fun

creating our mock stain glass

project. During Jesus time, we are

continuing to talk about the events

leading up to Christ’s Crucifixion

and Resurrection. We took our

next Superkid progress test today.

Next week we will be taking our

standardized tests. Please make

sure that you eat a good

breakfast every day since it can

be hard to think on an empty

stomach. We will also be learning

a new prayer for April. It goes to

the tune of "This Old Man" and

the words are: "Jesus, come, be

our guest. Let these gifts to us be

blest. For the things, you give us

every day. A song of thanks we

now will say. Amen."

This week we rode into

Jerusalem with our Savior, to

remember all of the events of

Jesus’ last week before He died

for our forgiveness. He rode

into Jerusalem to shouts from

the crowd, “Hosanna, to the

King of the Jews!” The church

guys wanted Jesus to quiet the

crowd, and Jesus said if He

would do that, even the stones

would cry out. Later, Jesus

washed the disciples feet to

teach them to serve and love

each other. We are full steam

ahead in 2nd grade with

multiplication, perimeter and

area, as well as lots of review.

In first grade we are doing >, <,

and =, as well as lots of review.

In science we are studying our

solar system. In Superkids,

there is always something to

read about our characters. We

are testing and doing many

activities. Next week is the

Iowa Basic Achievement Tests.

It would be great to fuel your

brain with plenty of sleep, ate a

good breakfast, and brought a

healthy meat or cheese stick

for snack, and drink milk! Easter

Party is April 7. Worship the

final Lenten Sunday, March 26.

Our Easter party will be

next Friday, April 7th. Vergin

and Trochinski families are

in charge of Easter party.

Achievement tests start on

Monday. Please make sure

your child gets a good night’s

rest and a healthy

breakfast. No spelling words

or memory assignments next

week. We will be walking to

the Berlin Public Library,

Monday afternoon, to put

the Easter art projects in

the cases. The class is at

640 AR points, our goal is

1000 points. A special thank

you to Mrs. Josie Hartzke

for the Easter bunny kits

and Mrs. Karen Vergin for all

the materials to make Easter

cards for our shut-ins. We

truly appreciate your

t h o u g h t f u l n e s s a n d

wonderful art supplies. A

new experience for the girls

this week was blowing out

the egg yolk and whites from

the eggs. My only regret was

not putting it on video. It

was hilarious!! Enjoy your

weekend and especially April

Fool’s Day!

We thank Mr. Krenke for

filling in for Mr. Snow this

week while he was out of

the building for Child

Development Days on

Monday and for a workshop

with public school officials

on Thursday. He will also be

in Wisconsin Dells next

Wednesday when Mr. Snow

will attend a conference in

the Dells.

We have finished lesson 104

in math class. We will have

our next math test on

Tuesday.

We finished our book, The

Secret of the Cupboard, in

Reading class this week.

The class has been working

on vocabulary and literacy

skills on the book to

prepare for AR testing.

The class just finished

doing a great job in art

class as they completed a

badger drawing that we

have displayed in the hall

outside our room. Come take

a look. They did a great job.

Have a great weekend

Pizza making and pick-up

is Saturday morning.

We finished both a

science chapter and

geography chapter this

week. Geography will not

have a test for this

chapter. The science test

was started today as an

open book and open note

test. In literature we

have begun a poetry unit.

Achievement tests are

next week.
