Important Tips:

Why are Gross Motor Skills Important?

Working on gross motor skills help child gain strength and confidence in his/her body. It also helps them get exercise and physical activity, which is important for a healthy lifestyle. Developing these skills helps a child’s ability to do more complex skills in future activities, such as playing football with a team.

Literacy Fine Motor skills

Threading

Materials: - Straws or sticks - Cardboard rolls or

paper - Hole puncher

What to do: Get paper or cardboard and punch holes in random places.

Next roll the paper or cardboard to create a tube as shown on the picture above.

The children should listen to the story of ‘Papa, please get the moon for me’. Open ended questions - What is the little girl

trying to touch? - Why do you think

she wants to touch the moon?

- What does the little girl want?

- What did her dad use to get the moon?

- How long was the ladder?

After you have discussed the story with your child. Encourage your child to think of what they would like their dads to get for them. Click here for the template. Explain to your child that you would like them

Click here for the activity worksheet. Visual discrimination involves being able to see subtle differences in objects, including letters and numbers, to distinguish them from others. Badgers today we will be looking for the odd one out. What you will need to do: Have three different fruits and one vegetable and ask your child if they spot the odd one out and ask why they choose that fruit. Print out the odd one out worksheet and ask your child to cross the one out.

Supporting children’s emotional wellbeing is highly important.

Today we are going to look at different emotions.

Discuss with your child what they like and what they dislike. It is important children are able to explain why they like or dislike something.

Important Tips:

Practising these skills can be hugely beneficial for children:

Hygiene Dentist

Today we will be looking at dental hygiene. Let’s think about: -Talk to your child

Place straws or string in a basket. Demonstrate how you would like them to thread the straws through. Encourage the children to use the correct tripod grip. Extension: Have different sized tubes ready. Ask your child to string them into the holes and tie a knot at the end.

to draw a picture of what they would like their dads to get them. After they have finished their picture, ask your child to finish the sentence. E.g. Papa please get me an aeroplane. Extension: Ask your child to copy the fully sentence independently. You can encourage your child use an adjective to describe what they requested. For example. A big red aeroplane.

Mathematics Numbers

Number Turtle

Demonstrate to your child what you want them to do by completing the first one with them. Extension: Prepare a basket of items and ask them to find the odd one out. For example, you can have a basket of black socks and one 1 grey sock, all blue pens with one red pen etc.

Mathematics Measure

How long is it?

-It helps them to understand and regulate their emotions. -It helps with stress management and general wellbeing. -It helps them become more aware of their bodies and their senses. Let’s Play! Explain to your child that they will be creating a face mask. What you will need to do: 1. Cut out four or five

mask shapes and get your child to colour it in.

2. Next ask you child to

draw a happy face on one mask,

about good health habits. - Ask your child why we visit the dentist. -Have a discussion with your child about oral hygiene. Explain to your child that the food they eat throughout the day gets stuck in their teeth. -Let’s see a picture of dirty teeth and ask your child what we can do to keep our teeth clean.

-Discuss healthy and unhealthy food.

Today we are going to explore objects that are light and discuss the differences.

When your child has finished exploring light objects. They will need to colour the lightest objects on the page.

Please make sure your child uses the right colour for each object, when colouring them in.

This is a fun way to get children to recognise numbers. Click here for the turtle template. Click here for the dice template. What you will need to do: Take turns to roll the dice with your child and place the counter on the corresponding number. Encourage your child to count the dots the dice lands on.

We are going to measure today!

Measuring cards

You will need to print out the cards and have some unfix cubes ready or any non-standard unit that the children can use.

Have different size objects in front of you.

Explain to your child that today we will be using unfix cubes or string to measure. Model by measuring one of the objects and ask them to

- sad face on another, -surprised face and - angry face. 3. Ask your child to role

play with you. Wearing the different emotion masks.

4. Ask your child to explain their emotion.

This activity helps emotional and social development by helping children to express their feelings.

help you measure the next item to ensure they understand the task.

Once your child has done that, give them the measuring cards and ask them to measure them and explain which one is the longest.

Extension: Ask your child to measure some of their family members using string.

The family member will need to be laying down flat on the floor.

Have fun!

Key questions:

- Who is the longest? - Who is the

shortest? - What else can we

use to measure something?

For this activity you will need hula-hoops and a ball. This can be done inside or outside.

Don’t drop the ball!

All you will need for this activity is a ball. The aim of this game is for your child to focus on the ball and try to catch it.

Start by having a small distance between you and your child. Tell your child that there’s an imaginary monster in the middle who wants to eat the ball so they can’t

Encourage your child to discuss what they can see, asking them to look at the details of each animal. What do you need to do: Explain to your child that today they will be painting a picture of a tiger. It is important that you demonstrate to your child that you want to them paint a picture of a tiger. Remind your child to use the correct colours and include the stripes.

not worry if you do not have paint at home. You can also use jelly which is great for sensory play.

What you need to: You will need to paint in the Ziploc bags, it needs to be enough so that the children can trace over it.

If you are going to use Jelly you will need to prepare the jelly before the activity. Pour the jelly in to a Ziploc bag and let it set.

How to prepare paint in Ziploc bags

Children will need to use their fingers to form the letters. Remind your child of the letter formation rhyme.

On the opposite side they draw themselves with a sad face.

Glue craft sticks on to the bottom.

Extension: Use these at circle time or a large/small group time later in the day asking questions about feelings. They turn their "faces" to show the side that corresponds to the question or statement.

Examples: You find your favourite toy that you thought was lost. Are you happy or sad?

You will need some letters or CVC words and tell your child the sound monster is hungry and he needs to eat the correct sound. Tell your child some words and they will need to put the correct sound in the monster's mouth. To make the monster you will need an empty box, foil and paper cups for the eyes. Ask your child if they know why people are wearing a mask outdoors.

Explain to them at first, it was mostly doctors, nurses, and others in health care settings who wore masks. But now, as other people wear them, more and more children are seeing something they're not used to seeing. For them, it can be strange or a little scary.

You should explain and use simple words to explain why people are wearing masks.

Demonstrate to your child what you want them to do.

Rolling the ball

We need some coloured paper and some tape. Bend the paper and tape down the sides. Give your child a ball and ask them to roll the ball in to each of the holes from a given distance.

What you will need: Plastic bowl or plastic carrier bag and double sided tape. What you will need to do:

1. Cut a fish shape from a plastic carrier bag.
