ST ALBANS. (From our Correspondent).
News has been received by his parents of the death of their son, Private Lyall Bailey, somewhere in France. Private Bailey was a big strong young man, and one who would inspire his mates with courage. It is a great pity that such a fine type of a soldier, a man of such splendid physique with the iron constitution that he pos-sessed, should have fallen so soon, aye, at all. No wonder the enemy have a wholesome dread of Austra-lians such as he was. The only particulars to hand are that he was hit in the head by a bullet and died the day after. He was the son of Mr and Mrs A J Bailey, of St Albans, with whom we all deeply sympathise. Rev. A. P. Hannington held a memorial service Sunday
last.

ST ALBANS.
A send-off was given on 16th ult.’ To Private
Lyall Bailey, son of Mr and Mrs A. J. Bailey, who Is off to the front. He is a strong, sturdy young man, of splendid physique, and one who Should, and will, we feel sure, be a second
Jacka-(don’t add “ss”, please, Mr. Comp)-if fa-
voured by an opportunity. Given a rifle with a
good bayonet on it, he will be a most formidable
proposition for any Hun to find himself up
against. He was entertained at a tea in the
School of Arts, and was presented with a wristlet
watch. We wish him a safe return.
