Glenelg District Swimming :

The Baimbridge College swimming team performed well last Friday at the district swimming competition held here in Hamilton at Hughan Park. It was a fabulous day weather wise and it was complemented by an excellent swimming carnival. Our team performed well with age group aggregate wins for the 13 and under boys, 16 and over girls and 20 year old girls. Baimbridge College finished third overall with age group champions Eliza Mibus, Daniel Battista and Sam McIntosh adding to the shine of an outstanding team effort. Well done to all concerned

General Assembly:

A whole school assembly was held on Tuesday morning to celebrate the success of various students and programs. Everyone was reminded that we do not allow mobile phones at school and that should someone need to contact a student at school it is not necessary nor appropriate to ring their mobile. The correct way to make contact is to ring reception on 55722788 and a message will be passed on to the student in question. Students were also reminded to register their names if they wanted to host an Italian student during term III.

Our School Captains Stephanie Granziera and Alec McIntyre addressed the assembly, students in Mr Banfield’s cert II and III courses in 2013 were presented with their certificates by a representative of AIE from Melbourne, we enjoyed a drama production, a sport report and music from our stage band.

Sport Education Elective :

Mrs McArthur and her Year 9/10 Sport Elective students lent their support to the Gray Street Primary School athletic sports at Pedrina Park on Tuesday. Their official duties on the day and support of the primary students are an integral part of their study in Sport Ed. It is great to see this very hands on approach to their learning with students putting into practise their officiating skills for the benefit of one of our neighbourhood schools.

Labour Day Weekend :

This weekend is a long weekend with Monday 10th March being a public holiday. Students are not required at school on this day and school will resume on Tuesday 11th March.

BAIMBRIDGE COLLEGE

Athletic Sports :

The Baimbridge College Athletic Sports take place on Tuesday 11th March. Students are required to come to school as normal so that rolls can be marked in the morning and shortly after we will all move to Pedrina Park for the events themselves. I will be interested to see if Cuthbert House can back up their swimming sports win with success on the ground. Mr Hill has put information on Compass about the limited catering facilities on the day and students are encouraged to bring food and drink with them as well as sunscreen and a hat. As always there will be no pass outs during the day unless parents actually pick up their children in person. A number of events are being run during lunch time this week so that we are able to complete our long program on Tuesday. We had 1500m races on Monday and Tuesday saw javelin events take place on the Friendlies Oval. So far there has been a great spirit surrounding all events which I am sure will continue next week. Students who are not competing on Tuesday can wear their House colours and otherwise should be in normal school uniform. Tuesday is not a casual day.

As always we welcome parents to come along and support our students at Pedrina Park.

Italian Visitors :

I would like to remind everyone that we will again be hosting a visit from a group of Italian students this year. They are to arrive at the beginning of term III and stay with us for 2 months. I have begun asking Year 11 students in particular to host a student. The advantages are many fold and can often lead to the offer of a stay in Italy with the family of the student that has been hosted. Please consider the advantages for your family seriously. I am currently taking names of interested families. Financial support will be available to cover increased household expenses.

Baimbridge College Website (www.baimbridge-co.vic.edu.au):

I would like to remind parents that Baimbridge College has a website thanks to the work of Mrs Jill Robinson. I encourage parents to familiarise themselves with the website as it contains a more comprehensive list of school information than it has in the past. I would like to thank Mrs Robinson for the excellent job she has done constructing and maintaining the new site.

Compass :

Our online student management system, Compass, will continue to be used this year. Parents should have their own personal log on which is different to their son or daughter’s. The system is accessible anywhere the internet is available on computer, smart phone, tablet or other mobile device. The website is https://baimbridge-co.vic.jdlf.com.au/login.aspx If you require more information accessing the system please contact the school. There is a link on our website to help you should you forget the address.

Access to Newsletters :

Baimbridge College produces a newsletter each week that will be distributed by email, the Baimbridge College website or through our student management system Compass. To ensure you receive your newsletter please contact our front office on 55722788, so that they can be placed on our email distribution list or just log on to our website or Compass each week.

If there are any questions or concerns I urge parents and guardians to contact myself, our Assistant Principals Mr John Hill and Miss Rosemary Morgan or the relevant Co-ordinators.

P-4 Playground is OUT OF BOUNDS to all students except those in P-4. No excuse saying you are

passing through. This is a NO GO area unless you are in Prep to Grade 4. Serious consequences

for those unable to follow this instruction.

Staff Carparks on West and East Campus are also OUT OF BOUNDS and are not a thoroughfare.

Students are to remind parents that they are not permitted to drop off or pick up their

children from these areas because of the safety risks this poses as well as it being out of

bounds.

Baimbridge Students help in the community.

Every year Baimbridge students head to the Gray

Street Primary School athletics carnival to help out

with the events such as raking the long jump as

pictured above. It is great to see our students

lending a helping hand in the community and

setting a good example for the primary students.

The Year 12’s called in to one of the Year 9 classrooms

this week to talk about goal setting.

With real life accounts of the importance of setting goals

and how the senior students found assistance to work

towards them, these sessions are invaluable.

World Day of Prayer, 2014

Each year, the secondary schools in Hamilton attend the ecumenical World Day of Prayer Service at one of

the Hamilton churches. The schools take turns to organise the service which is led by the students. This

year Monivae College will be the organising school.

This year the World Day of Prayer School Service will be held on Friday 7th March at the Monivae College

Chapel, commencing at approximately 10.00am. The service is usually of 40 minutes’ length, with school

choirs, drama groups and singers taking leading roles. The Student Leaders from each school participate in

the readings.

This year Baimbridge College will take the student leaders and form captains.

The organisation will be as follows:

9,00 Form Assembly as usual

9.15 – Meet at the front of the West Campus and

Take the bus to Monivae College.

10.00 – 11.00: World Day of Prayer Service.

11.00 – 11.15 Return to school

11.15 – 11.40 Extended recess – canteen will be open to cater for returning students

11.40 – Students go to Period 3

If you expressly desire your child not to attend, please put this in writing and send to Rosemary Morgan by

Thursday 27 February. Students remaining behind at school will not have formal classes but be expected to

do their own private study under supervision throughout this time.
