SHOWERS OF BLESSING

Well he, and all of us around southernCalifornia soon needed an umbrella ! JOY,JOY, JOY what a refreshing feeling after 8months and just a few sprinkles to have areal rain! It came, January 3rd, descendingfrom the heavens so softly, adding suchrefreshment to the beginning of our New Year. The drought is still critical, but we trulyhad 'Showers of Blessings'.

A TIGHT FLIGHT

After returning from Ohio in August we wereextremely grateful for the week we hadbefore Tim and Jerry were back in theclassroom on Sept. 5. The bags were barelycooled off though until they were repackedfor a fleeting trip to Sierra Vista, AZ.September 8th, for a concert at FirstChristian Church that evening. With a BIGGAME in Tucson that weekend it seemed

impossible to get reservations. But we wereblessed and got out the 8th but had to returnmidday on the 9th. It was a bit of a race tothe airport immediately after Bible Schoolbut we were in our seats as the door closed

for the trip back to Los Angeles. It was soenjoyable visiting and seeing so many dearfriends, and minister, Lee Irwin, who have

allowed us the blessings of their prayers, love and support through the iiany years ofour ministry. Their beautiful and uniquegrand enlivened Tim, as his previous lovefor this instrument surfaced. Thus the tinewith our friends in Sierra Vista, thesecuring of seats on a sold out airline, protection in a terrible storm that blew injust minutes AFTER our lovely, sunny smoothlanding are just a few ever presentreminders GOD is in control in ALL things...

PRIME TIME

It was a big night for Tim Sept. 19th. TheAnaheim Art Association presented hin withthe CULTURAL ARTS ACHIEVEMENT award. Itwas the first such award given in their 27thyear anniversary, which was celebrated thatnight. It graces the wall in our livingroom making it even a more inestimableoccasion... A return trip to San Diego for aBenefit for the handicapped was relaxing anddelightful. We are happy to be involved inthis annual event put on by the CLAIRBER6NER FOUNDATION, as we see all the goodthey do in helping the lives of handicappedpeople. It was held at the beautifulMission Bay Hilton again, and we were theirguests. Our rooms overlooked the bay. Iassure you this was not hard to take, and wetruly appreciated this tranquil environment. An additional blessing: we managed toescape any freeway hangups going and cominghome!

BAGS IN CAR - TRIPS NOT FAR

Tim was energized to the fullest for aconcert (10/25) at NASA for theirHandicapped Awareness event. This is theflight research faicility, Edwards Air ForceBase, California, where the space shuttlelands. A concert for the San BernardinoCounty Hospital Volunteer's Auxiliary wasscheduled the day before. We always leaveearly fearing the worst in the world oftraffic. T*was good. We went *steady byjerks', and even arrived in time for a cupof coffee before needing to be there! Itwas impressive to look over this large, congenial group and realize their generousregard for humanity. As we considered thepain of the morning freeway traffic, and theearliness of the hour we had to be at NASA,it was best to go on from San Bernardinoand stay the night in Lancaster. Nextmorning our dear friends, Lois and JohnAllen, Bakersfield, CA., met us EARLY forbreakfast and then we all went to the base.

It was an exciting and well planned day, onthe part of NASA, and one that it truly wasan honor for Tim to be a part of. It gave us

anxious moments, however. Dad was in thestage area behind the screen running theprojectors. He could not see us or hear(sound not up). Tim and I were in theauditorium. Somehow the slides and titles,(which precede each painting sis it isprojected on the screen and were perfect whentested) had gotten out of sync, but from theaudience response, we feel no one knew thedifference! To our amazement, as Tim startedto play, photographers seemed to come out ofthe woodwork! Dad could only see lightsflashing like crazy, and had NO idea what weushappening! Many times like that and the restof my hair will be grey. If we were notalready certain of the fact God gives us allthat is needed, this day would certainly beproof to us! Tim was honored with abeautiful collage award of the facility.Truly thrilling! Following a tasty buffetluncheon, that we were IkK)RE than ready for,we received a VIP tour of NASA. Tim's mindwas racing faster than speed! What a thrill.I told the gentleman who was the leading thetour to be prepared to answer more questionsthan a Philadelphia lawyer can ask. Helooked at me and winked, and said, "I'mready!" and he was! Tim was asked to get ina simulator, and was shown the functions andlanding of a plane! His favoriteexpression, WOW! seemed inadequate. What aday. God allowed us many opportunities, eventhere, to express our love of Him and faith, and gave us safety in travel.

SO Little SPACE TO WRITE IT ALL

BUT WE'VE HAD A VERY SPECIAL FALL!!It was a busy October and November, and eachperformance was unique and special in it'sown way. It is so difficult to even choosehighlights to write about! The calendar keptreminding us the holidays were here, and fromThanksgiving on it seemed we were living onelong day. But a FUN day. I do not think Iwould ever tire of the beautiful Christmas

music, decorations and could hardly wait foreach and every concert. Too many to writeabout but they included Churches, Seniorgroups, Anaheim Art Association, Mobile HomeParks, Doctor's Christmas Party, Hospitalsand Nursing Home. It becomes difficult andalmost impossible, to decorate our home andit was almost a lost cause this year, but onDecember 19th, I made the attempt. Doingjust fine till my back threw in the towel!

Oh, what pain, and...since then I've been...well, not...quite the same!

Even an URGENT visit to the doctor didn'tallow relief. I made it to all but oneconcert but we had to cancel it. An

additional disappointment was; it was our40th wedding anniversary and our plannedcelebration after the performance was alsodeleted! Christmas plans to go to friendschanged, and we stayed in town. But alas, food arrived from friends and neighbors andwe were all rescued from Jerry's culinaryskills! An attempt was made to TRY to enjoysome time at friends homes. It wasn't asmart idea and most activity was suspended.

BITS AND PIECES OF NEWS RELEASES

...Tim's art continues to be a thrill forall of us. The 1991 VERY SPECIAL ARTS

recipes from famous chefs, variouscelebrities, and VSA participants. Tim andJerry and I were asked for recipes (youguessed it Tim chose MEXICAN). He also didnumerous illustrations for it. It is a

lovely treasure as well as being useful....The VERY SPECIAL ARTS GALLERY in

Washington, D. C., sponsored by the KENNEDYCENTER had it's Grand Opening December 3.Tim's painting, *Tone Silhouette' is in theexhibit. We hope to see the gallery soonand commend them for this great step onbehalf of all handicapped people. Don'tmiss seeing it if you go to Washington!...ANAHEIM ART ASSOCIATION has a Fall juriedshow each year. Tim entered with threepieces. What a thrill when they announcedhe won the FIRST PLACE AWARD in the

Contemporary-Abstract category. The Awardswere handed out 12/12 the night of the ArtAssociation Christmas dinner. It was anadditional fun time for him as he gave hisChristmas concert with the Christmas slides. It was such a lovely evening, and when we gothome Tim said, "Wasn't that lots of fun?"And truly it was. *Strident Tones' was hisaward winning picture. Of course the judgesdo not know who the artists are, or anythingabout them. In this case there were 2doctors.

the fires of patriotism in everyone who seesit. When I think that Tim began painting forit last November (1990) I know that it is NOTan accident the way it all developed. Thefinal number of paintings he did for it was131! The amount of work involved by Jerryand Tim, has been phenomenal and mostcertainly Bill Morgan from GOOD NEWSPRODUCTIONS doing the photography and writtennarration, and G. B. Gordon doing audio. Thebookings are steady. Tim's dream is to takeit to Washington!...We were once again reminded of God'sgoodness, as Jerry made his monthly trek tothe doctor for his cancer check up. Thisvisit entailed a complete work-up and hepassed with an *A*. Relief and gratefulnessto HIM flooded over us. We are mindful andoh! so grateful to you who have prayed andcontinued to do so... RIGHT ON!

... Last news letter we asked that you be verysure to let us know if you desired tocontinue to receive our newsletter. MANY

FOOD FOR THOUGHTIt was New Year's eve, and we had listenedto the beautiful Sermon on the Mount,Matt.5,6,7, on scripture tapes. Then it wastime for prayer. Tim started and as he cameto the close he paused and said, "And OhLord, help us to know what's real and whatisn't and to keep our heads on straight." Ithat's a good New Year's resolution 1991!...We appreciated, and enjoyed each andevery Christmas greeting we received. Wecherish your love and thoughtfulness inremembering us. Though this is reaching youwell past January 1991 we pray God's loveand blessing on e€u:h of you and yours, andplease allow this to be JUST AS REAL as apersonal handwritten message....As you honor us with your continuedprayers, love and financial support, realizethis is our only hope for continuation ofour ministry. wtrnmiwrni «o« TO Fsimm.g.. We bad the time to make a hasty trip tothe shopping aall to return a new, andalready (SSXSS replaced, watch I had boughtfor Jerry after his was stolen in ourburglary. Seems the usual routine is, BUYIT, TRY IT, TAKE IT BACK, I was in thestore peering at the beautiful, glisteningjewelry in the cases, as I awaited Jerry'sarrival front parking the car. Then IThappened! A horrible THUD, a LOUD clanging, banging and the thunderous roar (soundedlike Elephants in Reeboks, only theycouldn't move so fast) of feet hitting themarble floor! The clang was a display sign, knocked to the floor with such force it went

sliding full speed down the store isle. HadI been standing 3 or 4 inches nearer to theisle, I would have been knocked over, orinfiltrated into the mob. The Sn was a

disheveled gang! A slight, very young lad, running with the speed of lightning, wasleading the pack as he was being chased by10 or 12 assumed rival gang members. Withinseconds, and as heartless as a tornado, theyhad plowed through the full length of thehuge department store, leaving what theyknocked over, in total disarray, and racedon into the mall. The customer'spleasantness of shopping, was instantlyreplaced with, terror, fright and disbeliefthat this was happening! Jerry came inshortly, and when my heart was pumpingagain, I gave him a rundown of the traumaticexperience as we hastened into the mall, Ifeared Tim may have encountered them, as hewas enroute to a music store. No sign ofTim, but in the middle of mall was a crowd ofpeople and many security. Coming closer we

could see, one of the young bodies pale, limpand with oxygen mask, lying on a bench. Aswe hurried on down the mail other security, with additional boys handcuffed, approachedus. My fear subsided as I felt the relief ofknowing the securi ty had things undercontrol. What a horrific experience! Sincethat time, I have thought this was sudden, fear gripped me, and surely the coming of theLord will be MORE startling!

THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED AND THE MOON

WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILLFALL FROM THE SKY, and the POWERS OF THEHEAVENS WILL BE SHAKEN,,, and they will seethe SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE

SKY with power and great glory,,, [Excerptsfrom MATT, 24:29-31 NAS,] That will beawesome, and possibly frightening BUT thereis such a major difference. In my humanmind, I picture it as the wonderful surpriseof a birthday party, and I do know my Lordwill say, "DON'T BE AFRAID, I CAME TO TAKEYOU HOME, I LOVE YOU!" A real contrast tothe hate, and fear the gang instilled! Myprayer is, that His peace and love may findit's way into their hearts and lives, and bereflected from my heart,

A smm nieSoooWAa bsal Fiim..January came in quietly, and we were ableto pull things together that slid by undone, during the busy holiday concerts. And then

..One evening, Alyce Morris, a friend that wethought we had lost contact with, called. Iwas so delighted to hear from her! I assumedshe wanted Tim to perform. He has done thisa number of times, for the foundation sheestablished for handicapped children. (It isa memorial to her mentally disabled son who

passed away,) We enjoyed chatting awhile, then she said she would like to noainate meas CALIFORl^IA STATE MOTHER OF THE YEAR, 1was so surprised and truly appreciated herkind consideration, but told her I didn'tfeel I could do it. A bit aoreconversation, and encouragement and I said Iwould talk it over with Jerry, He wasstrongly of the opinion, "go for it, " Afterpraying about it our conclusion was, whensomething of this magnitude happens, andcomes totally out of the blue, the Lordsurely has some purpose in it for us. Theevent is sponsored by the AM^ICAN MOTHERSINC, whose purpose is to develop andstrengthen the moral and spiritualfoundations of the family and the home, emphasizing, of course, the important roleof the mother in the home, community, nation, and world,.. I phoned my friendtelling her our decision and she sent thepapers that each nominee fills out, Well,N E V S B in my life have I had such achore! Too lengthy to tell, except youWRITE about your philosophy, your husband, child or children, (this is the first time Ihave ever been glad we did not have MOREchildren) and yourself. Letters ofrecommendations from 4 or more people in thecommunity etc. Well, I wrote, rewrote, andwrote some more! Jerry proof read till hewas cross eyed. It was difficult to write,as MUCH had to be said in as few words as

possible. To tell the measure of relief Ihad, by the time we mailed the 6 portfolios,is not possible! At any rate, 'twas a newand delightful experience after all the workwas done.

w umms ms dssam =• cam m>9f at fssm..In November 1989, the thought of Timpainting some pictures relevant to thepatriotic medley he played, was activated,A few pictures were made, and more ideasfollowed. Since Tim had not been a studentof history in school, his awareness ofWashington, and our United States has comeabout by having traveled! Architecture

captures his attention, and things of beautyoverwhelm him. A perfect combination todepict our country, ffe all became excitedand involved, and the project sort of becamea 'TOPSY' and Just growed! It kept growing, and growing. The result? Finally, after onefull year (November 1990), and 150 paintingslater, we sent them all to, GOOD NEWSPRODUCTIONS, INT., and our friend BillMorgan, to be photographed and have slidesmade! In addition as Dad chose the music,Tim stayed on top of learning it, as much ofit he had not known* The longer we worked onit, the more excited we becsuae/ \ie felt itwould project our desires, but sometimes whenyou work so hard on something a feeling ofuncertainty comes. There was no exceptionhere! Some technical problems caused a delayin getting the slides to us. Thus beforetheir arrival, our country went to war onJanuary 16, 1991, I found it hard to believethat this was happening and realized againthe Lord's timing, as usual, is perfect! There was one very MAJOR problem. Thepaintings did not come back with the slides, since additional photos were to be made forback up. However, on the back of eachpainting Jerry had written how they would bearranged with the music! WHOOPEE, he had norecord of what went where! Even so, the 150slides as well as the written narration, thatwas made into slides also, had to be insequence. All I can say is he had quite aweek of sorting, and placing all of them inorder. We were getting down to the deadlinefor the first performance, and the element ofsuspense was present! Tim was excited to seethe whole program correlated. The test wasbefore us now, getting the slides, music andthe voice over, (done by another dear friend,G, B, Gordon) all in sequence! Tim playedonly portions of songs on some, and somerepeats etc, on others. Could he do it? Itwould not be easy,, ,8o we wondered, I canonly say, the time we had awaited had cometo pass, and was successful only because theLORD ALLOWED IT, Now 'Mtsfltnftlam

Mmtltauui" is no longer the dream, it canbe seen. So we WELCOME yourbookings for this performance! It is morethan pictures, and more than music, A ladycommented after a concert, "I am not a veryreligious person, but I felt a DIVINEpresence^. May it always be so.

,,His voice was chipper when I answered the

phone, and he said, "Rosemary, we are now inear shot of each other!" What a surprise, when he identified himself as Larry Call,Fond memories surfaced of him and his lovelywife Barbara, Our meeting took place yearsago in El Paso, where he was stationed as aChaplain in the army. Our friendshipmatured, but our travels and their frequent'ARMY' moves caused loss of contact. Heinformed me he was now stationed in the

states in San Francisco, and he wanted us tocome for a Prayer Breakfast at the OaklsuidArmy Base, and give concerts at Fort Mason,Presidio of San Francisco, as well as theOakland Army Base, I checked the calendarand we were free to go, Larry had not knownabout 'Matlaetlcmst Auustdimtui'' but wasthrilled, when I told him I thought it wouldbe perfect for his program. We had been inSan Francisco area before, but had not seenSan Francisco. Tim had painted somepictures of various points of interest ofthe city (bridges, cable cars etc.) for thelitifltitrtlamt Jktoritama'' program, so when Itold him we were going, he was aselectrified as a cable car!

.. There were a million things to be donebefore we left, and as we closed the cardoor, and left at 5:00 A.M. Friday, March1st we hoped we were ready. It was raining,so made it nice to travel. It had been a

very long time since we had traveled Hwy,101, which goes along the coast. We lovethe drive, but had NOT thought about theslides that one encounters when it rains.Well, there we were, too late to turn backas rocks and dirt began appearing, along therosui, as we traveled. After our lunch stopwe were delayed for awhile as the highwayworkers cleared a sizeable slide of dirt androcks. I guess you know how we thanked Godfor seeing us through safely, and that wecould get through, as it would have been along way back! We arrived late afternoon inSan Jose and had a good nights rest. Nextmorning was pure delight! Our dearest offriends, Earlene and Gail Wolfe ceuoe to themotel, and we enjoyed yakking and evenbreakfast.

,, Time flew and we hurried on to Fort Mason, where we met Chaplain Call at the Chapel andTim met the piano he would be playing there. His remarks concerning the same were, "WOW"!As we visited with Larry and recalled dayspast in El Paso, Earlene and Gail came fromSan Jose, it is not far from San Francisco.Larry took us to our suite of lovely rooms in

the Officers Club, We felt so pampered, withsuch comfort and beauty. He left and we wentwith Earlene and Gail (in the rain) to do SanFrancisco. Dinner was a must for all andMexican won with lOOX vote! So very good.On to Fisherman's Wharf and Ghiradelli

Square. It was hard to get Tim out of theChocolate Shop in Ghiradelli Square, so Gailall but bought the store! Coffee in a quaintlittle shop with some delicious delicacies, and by that time everyone was beat. Morningwould soon be here and the day would includea chapel service at Fort Mason, and one atOakland Army Base, lunch with Barbara, Larryand family, and then a full concert atOakland Army Base at 6:00 P. M. The concertdid not end with the scheduled concert.Actually the AFTER concert and visiting wasas long as the actual performance! Such awonderful day, full of exciting people andexperiences. Oh yes, being around all themilitary really revved Tim up. Can youimagine how we felt when he started to playV1b9 ^gisaigI<8isS Bsbbhisp when he had neverplayed it before! Surprise, surprise. Veilit was beautiful and our hearts did resume

beating!..When the concert was over, Tim's stomach,as always, was in charge, so Earlene, Gailand all of us enjoyed the only remedy I know,Fnnn a "let your hair dofm time".

Absolutely, bed was more than welcome. Itwas still raining Monday so being a tad wearywas a good day to sleep in. Found it wasn'tpleasant when we did go out, so back to ourcomfortable rooms. The evening was specialas we savored every bi te of Barbara's turkeydinner and enjoyed visiting with the wholefamily. However, our gratifying time wasdrawing to its' end. Packing, then rest andwe were ready for Larry at 5:45 A. M. (Tues.)as he took us to Oakland Army Base for thePrayer Breakfast, It was a most humbleexperience for Tim to share a program withsuch honored men, Commanding BrigadierGeneral George A. Landis, Chaplain (Col) DonCrowley, and of course our beloved Chaplain(Maj) Larry Call, The tremendous messagedelivered by Chaplain Crowley left a vividawareness in the hearts and minds of all, that we go TmOUGB tUS (23rd Psalm)we don't stay there! Also, one could nothelp but hold in high esteem this humble, and truly devout servant. Brigadier GeneralLandis presented Chaplain Crowley with theChaplains prestigious belt buckle, givenonly in extraordinary situations to

exceptional people, Tim was overwhelmed tothe point of tears, when after thispresentation, he too was awarded one byBrigadier General Landis. What a thrill, aswell as a memory that will live in our mindsfor all time! I am sure I need not tell youthat 'Jitifltitftluuxt Jku£ritama^ was receivedwi th enormous approval. What a year fordebuting it! God's timing is awesome.. .Weleft the base at 9:00 A. A. M. and traveled

home with ease receiving again HIS travelmercies, and benefits of a beautiful andcloudy day! As we reflect upon suchincredible happenings, enjoyable times andblessing of such womderful people, floods ofJoy sweep over us, and we are again withoutwords to thank Him.

. .Many times we have wondered if we wouldever run across anyone who may have been inthe audience at the time Tim was filmed byN. B. C, at the Las Vegas Liberace Museum,in Las Vegas, Nevada. As he was playingCLIMB EVERY MOUNTAIN on the sIubb aamatii-t

Stand piutio Liberace came up behind him andstood there until he finished. Tim turnedaround to acknowledge the audience applause, and was astounded to see Liberace standingthere. The audience was composed of personswho were visiting the museum. They wereunaware that N.B.C. was doing the filming of

their T. V. program "FANTASY". The doors tothe museum were to be locked during the

...Excitementfilled our hearts as the elevator doorwung open. As we thought, there sheMas sitting in her wheel chair! Her smile, bigger than the oceans, spread across herface. To us It had been along, good and spe^y trip, when you consider the miles welogged, but to mother as she awaited our arrival the time seerod truly endless. Joyfultears flowed, and she had to hear her fnoritB piano player ainvst Instantly. Ithad beena long day so our visit that evening [April 19] was brief, but the next day we enjoyeda longer time, and then she was in her prime as Tim presented 'RFLfCTXMSAKEfQCANA' for her and the residents at Canton Christian Home. Still bright eyed, and

enjoying everything, we wheeled her across the drive way to the Canton Christian Churchto attend my brother Mayne and his wife Elizabeth's 50ttt Anniversary celebration. Memarvelled how she remembered many she had not seen In years and recalled things fromt}te past we had long forgotten. Yet there were those whose names the cob webs of agehad clouded and she seemed confused or lost for a bit, but usually remembered after wegave aclue. She withstood the afternoon until about 15 minutes before the reception wasover, when she said, 'I'm tired.' In addition, she even enjoyed some of the fixd, whichforsome time meant little to her. She reiterated over and over what a wonderful timeshe had had, as we took her b3cl( to her room. We found she had not lost thesememories overnight either, aswe again relived it ail in a visit before church the following

morning. This was our last and THEASURED time with her. She did not )(now that wewere leaving the next morning, to go home. Neither we nor she could handle that! Sheasked where we were going and our answers were, 'To church mother, and then we haveaconcert to set up for, which isthis evening and it Is like we gave for you yesterday.'She told Tim to play well, and then she said, as she had so many times before, 'Mell Iwant to cook for you, in the big house on the hill.' The big house on the hill was, ofQDurse, the home place she \oi\gk to return to. She visualized preparing all our favoritefoods, like she had done, each visit we made home. Mother did this for her children, and everyone who entered her doors. Few came to see her who left without sharing ather table. As we stepped into the elevator we said, 'Me'll see you Grandma.' and threwher kisses. She waved and smiled so happily and then said again, *Plsy veil Tin, mlriL SEE YOU Di ntE BIG HOUSE GN TW IflLL' Oh, how it hurt to leave her!.Just to days later, early Hay 2nd, my brother called to say mother fell the night beforeand broke her hip. Surgery was perfemed and her fragile, stalwart body again fbugir)! Her return to the nursing home gave lis hope, but on Hay 16th about 11.-00 P.M. she wasagain taken to the hospital in very critical condition. She devetoped extremely high sugar, serious bladder infection, avery high temperature and was having continuous strokes andsoon slipped from semi-consciousness into a comi.nit was SO HARD not to be there but we kept our schedule. On 6/12, we drove to SanJose, CA. After an enjoyable evening with our beloved friends Gail and Earlene Molfe, wewent to the motel. death had been anticipated but it was NO easier to accept whenthe jolting call came, shortly after midnight Mother had slipped peacefully into her B16HOUSE ON THE HILL at 2:45 A.M., 6/13. Early on, she spoke these words loudly, andoften, 'DON'T YOU EVER CANCEL ANYTHING FOR HE!' Considering her wishes and also allthe work and advertising done for the concerts by the Almadene Valley Christian Church,San Jose, and the Mini Concert/Inspirational Weekend planned by the Tyler St Church ofChrist In Sacramento, we decided to go ahead, but cut our time by one day (Sunday). Hestruggled to secure airline reservations. Prices were unrealistic because we didn't makeadvanced reservations! How can you do that when you fly 'bereavemenf? They give abreak but it isSTILL unreasonable. Surely a death should alk}w the greatest discount anairline offers. Not so! Gail and Earlene's niece, a travel agent, took over and brought thetickets to us. We got ourselves together and were able to focus on the concert for theevening....We eagerly awaited our return to the Almadene Valley Church. Tim's reunion with theirbeautiful grand piano was delightful, as was seeing many friends. After the concert a ladysaid, 'Rosemary Brechbuhler Baley I have to have a hug. I haven't seen you since yourwedding 40 years ago!' I was struck with shock, when Dorothy Hendershot Elwell revealedher name! Our families were friends for years, and especially our mothers. Hy what athrill, but so little time to talk to cover those 40 years...Next day [5/14] on toSacramento, and greeted so lovingly by our dear friends at Tyler St, and special friends and hosts.Earl and Shirley Chmbers (Earlene's parents), We hurriedly set up for the concert thatevening. Tim went bananas when he saw the gorgeous Grand that SHERHAN/CLAY PIANOCO. SPONSORED for the concerts. Such an inspiration for him and especially so, sinceGrandmother was such a loss to him! Awonderful concert that evening, and EarlChambers ck)sed the meeting with a vibrant HINI message. An additnnai blessing was

seeing OUR VERY QNN personal printer! Burl Sltoemke, and Ills Mife Bernlta havedevoted counttess hours, (as have many fbtk fron their hoRie church in Smet Home,Oregon) printing and inalling our BALEY'S 'NOTE' BOOK. Without their help andgenerosity Ke could not have this piAlication. Burl is the brother-in-laM of Earl andShirty....After the concert, on our Nay to the mountain home of Earl and Shirley, a group enjoyeddinner, before we journeyed up the hill, and Burl ^veied on hone to OR. Ne were sosorry Bernita Mas not along.... Next morning r^iacked, and prepared to laave for home after the service that evening. These people have bdcome so precious to us and their iove and prayers at this difficulttine were so appreciated. Itwas aglorious evening and hard to leave, but after a hurriedmeal and f^eils ve headed south at WHO P.H. The hlghiiay had mi since ve Kentup, tl^y sesn^i like much longer miles bsilDre we arrived hone Sunday [6/16] at6:30 A.M.Ifwe sat down, knew we would go to sleep and so much to do to leave [repack, laundryetc.) for Otiki. However, we caved in from 2:30 to4:30 P.K. The rest gave us the addedpush and finishing touches were topped at lO-ia Then it was for REAL to bed! At 3:30A.N. shuttled to LAX and winging eastward GB/17] at 7:30 A. H. Ky brother Clyde met usatthe airport [4:00 P.M.] a hasty dinner and on to the funeral hcne for calling hours at6:3a We were privileged and blessed to greet f^ly and friends all evening. The nextmorning [6/18] calling hours were at 10:00 and the funeral tH ll:0a Former idnlsters,Richard (Dick) Carpter, and Rod Huron, whom mother k)ved so very much, unselfishlycame. With their words and those ofSteve Kin^rel, the current minister, the service'profoundly related the strong Christian faith and witness mother was in our home, thechurch and community. Friend and organist Pink Snyder, and vocal aMA SherrI Stipp, add^ such beauty to the service. Tim played one last time for his grandma, her veryfavorite hymn, 'His Eye IsOn the Sparrow.' She was so VERY proud, and LOVED sodeeply all of her grandchildren. The grandsons were priviiegsi to be her Pallbearers. The church friends gradously prepared our noon meal and served itat HBt church, theNorth Industry Christian, where she was alife kmg member. Teaching, working, singing, serving and toving as kmg as she physically could. The many, many kindness extendedto all ofour family will be imbedded in our hearts always. It truly helped the hurt! Theneed was strong to relax, and since Tim's birthday was June 23rd, we shared a wonderfultime with my brothers and-their wives, Wayne and Elizabeth, Clyde and Wanda, and mycollege roommate and her husband, Alice and Paul Wiener. At his f^ite place 'Hilk andHoney', Tim's sorrow was eased a bit...The bags were made ready for travel, and the next day after going to the NursingHome, where mother had lived, and coffa with my brothers, we were on our way back toCA.

...As I reflect ALL that transpired from the time we got the call In San Jose on June 13thuntil we returned home from the fur^ral on June 13th, I m absolutely In AWE!Everything was perfect, and on time. His strength sustained us as His tove andprotectbn surrounded us....From the time I was alittle girl and bep recalling music, a song that was imbeddedIn my memory was, 'NY MOTHER'S PRAYERS HAVE FOLLOWED ME'. It was not until muchlater in my life that it took on meaning! When I left home for college, mother's letterswould ALWAYS ckise with, 'LOVE YOU' and somewhere she would say TN PRAYING FORYOU'! Her phone calls were no different They stated the same! The song speaks of awondering child that strayed from the Lord, but returned because of the persistence ofthe mother's prayers. In the case of myself, my sister and brothers, motiter's prayerswere for us Id keep f^thful to our God, and always for our safety. Idon't think anyof us would have ever gone contrary to her and daddy's tsshing and I add, we surelyhad better not have! It wasn't a forced teaching, though that sentence may havesounded like It but one done with k)ve, devotion and above all the purity of theirexample as they leaned on God for guidance. They valued God's gift of children!...Had itnot been for mother, daddy and my sister. Ruby in our years of struggle withTim, I'm sure we would have given up! They had an in depth sense of our needs andwere always there with help, love and encouraganent; making many trips to us, in timesof crisis....Mother toved music, and was afathful choir member all her life until her stroke! Ourf^ly thought congregational singing, at the funeral, was an appropriate tribute to her.One song chosen was "JESUS ICOME", not thought of as asong fiw funerals, but read

the words! Then the service ck)8ed with the congregatkm anging 'NOW I BEtO^ TOJESUS'.... Her life of 95 years, 8months, and 8days was over on this earth, and we eiss hersorely! But, you know, I bdieve she is there beside our guardian angels as^ng andadvising, 'cause I don't think even in heavra she can tot^ly surrender her children(mothers are like that you know). And If^ justas certain her prayers are sliS with usas she is enjoying her 616 HOUSE ONE THE HDl. OH YESk HBtPRICEWIS mABOVE RUBIES!

Of m BOiD miM».Our next out of town trip, was to the Norris Road Christian Church In Bakersfield, CA.Sunday 6/30. It had not been our privilege to be tha^ betiore. Had we not gone wouldhave missed meeting many wonderful people, and a terrific ftikiwshlp dinner!..We had anticipated going to the North American Christian Oonventton, whk:h was held inDenver. We decided to drive aid the time had' srived (7/2). Crossing the desert was bestearly, but even the roosters weren't up when we left at 3:3a So be^fiii after we gotout of the smog here, n(^ RHJch traffic, «id the desert Is awesome at that time!^.Arrived in Canyon City, ca 7/i Ruby and Woody Wadl^gh »id daughter Jullene livein the kively Royal Gorge Manor. M.Tim played for the off^yon Thurs. P.M. [7/11]. He and Jerry put together a medley of songs pertaining to thethene. The church. Then Tim painted pictures to go with the words. Our friend BillMorgan photographed the art and made the visual narratkm. Because the conventton woulduse 4 NAKNOra screens, we oould not use slides so when Bill completed the slides we hadthem made into a video. All was done and ready. The cokur that was on the video wasbrilliant Since Tim's viskni istoo poor for him tosee the distance to the screen, it wasarranged to have Jerry sing softly into a mike and Tim have an earphone. Rehearsal wentwell except the video cok)r was very faded when projected on the big screens. At the timeof performance, Jerry was told they had dubbed the video on toanother tape, and cutsome ofthe beginning and a bit ofthe end! No time todo anything... Dora was George Liberace's wifeand was at the museum when N.B.C. filmed fUfffSC. He told us she was now aConsultant to the Liberace Foundatkw, and they had anew Administrator, Barbara Shaw.He suggests! we go see her. Since we did not know her, I gave him one of Tim's cardsand concert brochure and asked him just to give then to Dora and teil her we were sorrywe missed her. I won't describe the burns,or the HESS or even cleaning it up. Vill say we had supperabout breakfast tiae the next day. However, we are told in thescriptures, there is J07 in everything. Still not sure whereit was in this case, but iiaybe it was in the fact... I suddenlyhad a CRASH COURSE on "THINK I learned veryquickly, froa cleaning thea up, I needed LOTS! Colossians 1:11

In our Christnas tiini Notebook I ended saying, 'Beassured, VERY SOON, the BIG NOTEBOOK will coae with all thenews, past and present. Best be at it, before Christaas getshere again!"

Our August IMl Notebook allowed ae to share with you throughJuly 1991. I realize I cannot tell all the exciteaent, decisions, nenories, and yes, disappointaents of the past year, but will highlight iiajor events.

Very Special Arts, Washington, D. C., called asking for Tinto present 'lefleetiou Asericftta' for the KIVANIS clubconvention of California, Nevada, and Hawaii, in San Diego, on8/24. Plans to drive to the western slope of Colorado for atour, with the first concert 8/25, aade it iapossible. However, they WANTED the prograa enough, that they flew usthere. We left for San Diego on Sat. 8/24, for the KiwanisConvention. Truly a spine tingling experience. As you know, the Kiwanis are genuinely very patriotic. They brought thehouse down with their response to 'lefleetisis AaericaAa'! Lotsof exciting chatter as we returned hoae VERY LATE after theconcert and repacked all our things for air travel, (never didget to bed), but were ready for the airport shuttle at 5:30 A.H.We thanked God for uncluttered freeways and good weather thatallowed us safe, on tiie arrival to the L.A.I, airport and onto Grand Junction, Colorado 8/25, at 1:00 P.N. Wonderfulfriends, froa the Northeast Christian Church aet us at theairport, took us to the aotel and the concert set up followed. We were rejuvenated and had a GLORIOUS reunion tiae with iianypriceless friends who lived there when this was "hoae" froi the

PEG6Y DAVEIPORT, ETHEL GULLICK AID TIN.

tise Tia was 3 years of age until he was 13! Chris CoIi&d,ainister and his wife, Angela, are so dear to us. Angela, nowa beautiful aother, was a lovely little girl when we lived in ElPasol Visits at a pre-concert reception with friends was sonice. It is such a thrill for Tia to play in Colorado, and hewas ready. An after concert let down was enjoyed at "StarvinAxvins*. The food was excellent but the friends were the best

part! It was so bard to leave, but having been up 42 hours ladeit easier since bedtiae was here.

Next day, 10/8 I«ft in a rented car for Rangely, Colorado.Kany years since we had been there, but again lots of oldfriends, as well as new, at the Rangely Christian Church. KnewToa Sabens, ainister, and wife Jane froa years past. Theirabundant blessing of love and hospitality aade us coafortable andset up easy. A fantastic fellowship dinner was a perfect leadin for the concert! We had anxiously awaited seeing the newchurch building. What a tribute to God, and beautiful sight tobehold!

Hontrose Christian Church, 8/28, Ronnie Hanna, ninister, wasour next stop. Had been a long tiae since we enjoyed a nice visitwith Ronnie and his wife Janet. Ronnie saw to it Tia's hungerpangs were cured. Such wan aenories were again kindled as wesaw so nany dear friends.

The anticipation of the breath - taking drive through the3ountains froi Nontrose to Cortes was just as spectacular as theaany tiaes we had traveled it when we lived in Grand Junction.Added to that thrill was the anticipation of being at the CortezChristian Church, 8/29, Hike Xoseley, ainister. Tii was about3 1/2 years old when we assisted, as song evangelists, when thechurch was established! A pot-luck dinner before the concert, and dessert after, allowed wonderful visits but it didn't stopat the church. We continued until the wee hours NOW STOP with

our dear hosts, Berta and Freddie Schaack. It was a short night, nevertheless, Berta was bright eyed and WHANPBD up a real FARKbreakfast! The 4 hour trip back to Grand Junction, to returnthe car and catch our plane back to Los Angeles, was followed bya superb flight. God's blessings overwhelied us!

So GOOD to be hoae but not for long...A SEAL BALL - GOING INTO THE FALL

We were hoae during Septeiber so that iiade preparation toleave in October auch less hectic, and we were in the car, 10/6,and on our way. First stop Yucca Valley (now faious because ofthe recent earthquakes there). Again, we were greeted so

lovingly by oinister, Gene Talbott and people at the FirstChristian Church. Been there so aany tines it is like goinghose. A great afternoon concert, and then off to Pala Desertarea. Next aorning, 10/7, a gratifying tine as Tia had hislesson with Prank Scott, followed by soae chatter tine and thenBe left for Prescott, AZ. I could write pages on our visit withJia Price, sinister, and the folk at First Christian Church, tfe set up before the concert, and then went back awhile beforethe perforaance. Avoice called, "Hrs. Baley, Mrs. Baley". asI stepped out of the car. Looking around a lady wasapproaching, and said, 'I'a sure you don't reaeaber ae but welived on the saae street in Boise, ID. and Tia was a friend ofour son, Phil." She related how, even then, he would entertainthea on the piano. Tia and Phil becaae good friends, and weappreciated his kindness to Tia. Additionally, she brought anapron that ay aother had aade, and though tattered froa yearsof wear, she NEVER threw it away! This was a special day forK/N Alan Atkinson, in another way, as it was their weddinganniversary. They had seen the write-up in the paper, and knewit had to be the Tia who had played for thea. Also, two dearSENIOR ladies were there. Esther LeKay, and Edith Pala (anauthor, who wrote a chapter in her book about Tia, and has sincepassed away). Esther was celebrating her 94th BIG DAT! FronHawaii were our friends the Clausons and oh, so eany, aanyothers! tfe were honored and thrilled to have this specialexciting, and YES eaotional tiae! So HARD to settle down andsleep that night.

10/10, Jia had arranged an afternoon concert at the ArizonaPioneer Hoae. What a delightful experience and place. Then onto our hosts John and Virginia Grider. A aore beautiful hoaewould be hard to find and learning they designed and built itleft us in awe! EVEN pleasant to do the laundry. Next day,10/11, on our way to Phoenix. We journeyed through JEROHB, AZ.and did a bit of sight seeing. Tia was struck by the windingroads and picturesque area. Having been there before we werevividly aware of the changes taking place. Kinda aakes you feelbad. Arriving in Phoenix we were welcoaed by Jerry and SallyDeeaerand enjoyed the coafort of their hoae! Jerry (Baley) wassick all night and next day. Aaazingly we aade the concert atFirst Christian Church in Chandler, Roger Stores, ainister. Agreat attendance, even though it was a Saturday night!

Next day, 10/13, back to Chandler to be with Tony Nelson, ainister, and Coaaunity Christian Church of Bast Valley.Thrilled to have Betty Canary, (ay college rooa-aate) DorcasCanary and her daughter Janet coae. Saw Dorcas last in 1950!It took us all afternoon to eat lunch. In the evening FirstChristian Church, in Teape, David Skoville, ainister, welcoaedus. Our friends, of untold years, Donna and Lester LeKayassisted us and also helped to arrange the tour. Adelightfulreception followed the concert.

Next day, 10/14, the evening concert at Chaparral ChristianChurch, Larry Hostetler, ainister, left us on top of theaountain! Such a crowd, and exciteaent. Many aore friends caae. The Ray's, the whole faaily of Kurd's, Jeannie and Del

Pernandes, (all friends originally froa CO) Leonard Qyaore; andthe Griders drove down froa Prescott! Tia was filled to runningover seeing so MANY people all at once and he burst forth withausic! Lovely fellowship after the concert, and then on to anearly aidnight supper with Fernandej's.

A bit tired, but we packed the car and headed to Californiaat 4:15 the next aorning, 10/15. Floods of joy consuaed us aswe counted ALL the pleasures and blessings God allowed us.Again, we were safely hoae...it was ^ood!

10/16, about 40 people froa (fito City, Japan, Anaheia'ssister city, had been here visiting. Our city was sending theaoff with a dinner, and Tia was asked to play. He has a profoundLO?B for people of other cultures, so this was a very specialprivilege for hia. Their enthusiasa left no question of theirAppreciation. Truly, ausic is a universal language.

11/13, we were up in the air! On our way to Charlotte, NorthCarolina for a benefit concert for the Association of Retarded

Citizens! Ke would be in a new area and aeet new people. Aperfect flight and then waraly welcoaed by Greg Ray, one of ourhosts froa the A.R.C. He checked us into our hotel, and thewonderful dinner and a good nights sleep had us refreshed for thebig day ahead! The concert was at the lovely Kint/Art Huseua. The A. R. C. had labored HARD for a successful event, and thatit was. Tia could not have been aore thrilled when he was asked

to accoapany the bell choir froa the local Nivens residentialhoae. It was wonderful and SO LITTLE practice! As always, weregretfully said good-bye as Judy Lewis, Executive Director, tookus to the air-port the next day. Through the year, there wereaany concerts locally. Space forbids details. I try to let youknow when and where we go out of town. Deceaber is always a veryspecial tiae, and with the ^lefleetioiB of ftriatfiair' it is aoreso. The prograa has been well received wherever given.

NOT JUST SO SO. .REALLY mms = #

The holiday concert schedule was just perfect and to end itwith the trip to the White House was the ultiaate. The weatherwas cold but beautiful. Ne arrived at the hotel at 7:00 P. M.,12/6, Tia was choaping at the bits, to get there, as his UncleClyde and Aunt Vanda (ay brother and' his wife) were coaing infroa Ohio. They had arrived earlier in the afternoon. Aaessage, at the desk, told us they were in the restaurant. Food, chatter and then, like it or not, bed was a lust. Next lorninga bit of sightseeing, as we sandwiched in a TROLLS? tour, andJerry and Tia im found a piano for Tia to practice. Next, anewspaper interview, arranged by Very Special Arts, followed bya tour of their lovely new offices and art gallery. Then beforewe knew it, it was tiae to leave. Since it was so cold, thoughwe were only a block and half froa the White House, we got acab. The driver did NOT turn where he should have, traffic wasjaaaed and at a standstill. In 25 ainutes we went a block anda half but we were still about that far froa the White House.

Knowing we would HSVBS aake it on tiae, we got out and walked. The driver collected $9.00 and we got cold just as we thought!I can't help but wonder if he did it on purpose? Didn't dwell

on it long, as we sav a seeiingly endless line, as we walked toour gate, and realized these people were waiting to go throughto see the candlelight tour! At our destination, we werewhisked through security and escorted into a roon to wait to betaken on our tour. It was a pleasant tine as we visitec witha couple (volunteers). Soon, we were spell bound as we walkedthrough this elegant array of decorations. Christaas greenery, poinsettias, seeaingly endless snow covered evergreen trees withtwinkling lights, icicles, and decorations designed and createdby the White House Executive Residence staff and volunteers froaacross the United States, created a sparkling fantasylandJ.Forty representatives froa the floral industry volunteered theirhelp to install the decorations that over 100,000 people had theopportunity to enjoy during the holiday season. The wait to go.through was 2 1/2 to 3 hours! It is not possible to elaborateon each rooa but I can't by pass the Blue Rooa. Getting readyfor- this particular Christaas took nearly two years. 214aeibers of the Saintly Stitchers, a needlepoint club of Houstonand 271 White Rouse staff and volunteers had been needlepointingandaade 1,370 ornaaents and decorations. The stunning resultsof their hard work transforaed the Blue Rooa into a needlepointworld of enchantaent.

The official tree, a Noble Fir froa Oregon, was covered withangels and. snowflakes, rocking horses and gingerbread ten, fruits and candy. Under the tree, an electric train ran througha turn of the century village, and on a side table, Noah and hisfaaily welcoaed 42 pairs of aniaals to their ark. In the southwindows was a aagnificent 80-piece creche aade by the SaintlyStitchers--the inspiration for this needlepoint Christaas.

The highlight of the Bast Rooa, our ultiaate destinationwhere Tia would play, was the traditional White House creche, given by Nrs. Charles W. Englehard Jr. of Far Hills, New Jersey,a part of the decorations since 1967. Placed at either side ofthe creche and one at opposite ends of the rooa were four hugeblue spruce trees, decorated with red paisley and gold ribbons, gold glass pine cones, glass balls and bead strings.

Upon coapletion of the tour, our lovely hostess took us tothe piano. Bach participant's naae was fraaed on a plaque

' placed so the people saw it upon entrance to the east rooa.Because of the large groups, and aany people perforaing, theornate BAST ROOK piano had been aoved out, and replaced with abeautiful Steinway. Not even this effected Tia; he was lostinanother world! His relationship to the audience was personalas they very slowly loved through the rooa. There were thuabsup, o.k. signs and applause, and Tia reciprocated with nods andhuge sailesi Everything was perfect as we sat and listened.THEN, a song that was NOT on a cue card astounded us! Tia knewthe aelody, and had tried playing it, but NBVER in aperforoance. My only thought, Iff IKIB Hill I was prepared tocrawl under the seat, but was too stiff to do so...He easedthrough it so beautifully, and when we said, "Tia, you had notplayed that song in public." His reply was, "Iknow, but I justthought I aight as well play it!" It didn't stop with that onehe played several others too, equally as well. I just thought,

3

I aa sure the Lord aust chuckle as He guides Tia through thesesurprises he gives us! He was asked to play a bit longer thanthe tiae scheduled, and we thought we would see the end of theline. Not so! Soon we were escorted to another part of theWhite House, to a reception, and saw again the thousands stillwaiting. Tia was in awe when he saw the reception being servedby the security, and had unending questions. There was stillauch to see and Tia's eyes beheld a beautifully decorated tree, seen through french doors, on apatio. He started toward it, butreaeabered that one is not allowed to go ANYWHERE unlessescorted. He turned and looked at the security. His questioningface, proapted the guard to say, "It's o.k to go over Tia."Shortly our hostess led us out, and as we aoved past the stilllong lines, she told us the line cut off at 8:00 P.N., but itwould be after 11:00 P.M. before all the people were through. We walked in the frigid teaperature to the hotel but our heartswere wara and the adrenalin still flowing. Tia finally DID goto sleep, but reiterated aany tiaes the joy and honor he feltbeing invited to play. TRULY a highlight in his life. His hopeSTILL reaains, that he HLL play the REAL east rooa piano.

On 12/28 at 11:00 A. K., a brilliant sunny day, we leftWashington. Astora had hit the L. A. area earlier, so as weapproached the runway the pilot flew out over the ocean, underthe clouds. It was an absolutely spectacular, clear, saoothlanding! Our prayers of THANKSCIVING have and always willcontinue!

We had no probleis as heavy rains continued (though aany areaswere flooded) as we travelled the next evening, 29th, toPasadena for the 6000 Silf (aational recreational vehicle club)Rose Bowl 'Saaboree'. Our 'ItflectittKi Asefieaia' was receivedwith what seeaed to be 1501 le left with aany new friends anda deep longing for our days gone by in 'Melody' our lotorhoae!

Tia is always thrilled to perfori, but ite opportunity toplay, hear soie of his favorite iQsiciaiisi and .aeet soaecelebrities is sapreie! Bach year, if we are hoae, we aredelighted to participate in the aonaal Jeffrey Foundation FundRaiser. This is a wonderful work in Li A« that renders serviceto handicapped people and their faiilles. It was held 3^5, atthe beautiful limfcTinUim, which in itself is delightful, but the celebrity line up included The letterian (Tia is a realfan of theirs), Connie Stevens, Peter Kark Richian, and DavidKinnion. The joy of the evening was lade tore indelible when hegot autographs froi all of the people. He was a bit surprisedwhen several asked for his! It was NON STOP talk coaing hoae.

Scheduled next was our tour to northern California., The tiaewas upon us! On 4/10 we hit the highway for Bakersfield. It wasa lovely drive and we were enjoying a tape of George BeverlyShea's singing. I shut it off when we stopped for a ^pit' «»top, and coaing back out turned it on again. We were pulling out ofthe parking lot, and the sight was breath taking. Snow cladQountains, ladened abundantly with wild flowers! That in itself

was overwhelning, but the song George was singing was 'BringBack the Springtiae'. Oh it was wonderful! Upon arrival wewent to our beloved friends, Lois and John Allen. Lunch tiae, and John did a real nuaber on the barbecue, Lois did her thingtoo - we were refreshed! Soon to Plaza Christian Church, ourfriend Dean Christensen, is ainister. Set up was easy and foodwas easy to take too. Lifetine (well alaost) friends, Forrestand Bdythe Mae Clodfelter, Bountiful, Utah, were travelling andwere there. There were just LOTS of people we knew froa yearspast. John Allen's aother was celebrating 97 years that day,we all felt so honored to have her there.

Hext aorning 4/12, our road way led to Turlock. We lookedforward to a reunion with Ralph and Gloria Sorter. Ralph's fineparents lived in CO. when we were there, and he was just a youngboy. So Buch reainiscing! We savored every effort of theirhospitality and that of new friends at Hew Hope ChristianCenter, and ainister, Charles HcRinney. Any who cared to gowere invited to lunch at Harvest House. How, well., to have tohurry and eat at a place like that as well as leave the partywas not fair, but had to be on our way! Arrived in good tiaeat the Christian Church of Santa Clara, Gene Peaster, ainister. Our beloved friends Gail and Barlene Volfe were on deck and set

up was speedy. Many joyous and surprising reunions that nighttoo. We relaxed with the ainisters faaily, Gail and Barleneover Hexican food and then slept like a log. Awonderful Day!

Honday, a day to rest. Barlene and Gail drove jis to herbrother's beautiful beach house, on a cliff, in Santa Cruz. UH,OH, THB KB7 WASN'T WITH US! Not to worry, Gail is a locksaith!UH, OH, NO TOOLS TO PICK IT! He iaprovised. After considerabletiae, "Barlene, be ready to shut off the alara, I'a about in."UH, OH, (a bit of a pause). 'I'H NOT SURB OP THB ALARK CODB!'BUT SHB DID SUDDENLY RBHBKBBR...We laughed till we hurt, ate, slept, and Tia played. Tiae to leave. UH, OH, WB RBALIZBD WBWBRB WHAT TOU WOULD SAY, LOCKBD IN! No way to pick it shut.Couldn't leave till we could get Barlene's niece, to coae witha key. It took soae doing. Such precious, loving friends,God's beautiful ocean, the end of a PERFECT DAY. Oh how RICHand BLESSED we are! On Wednesday 4/15, we traveled on toOakland Aray Base once again! Seeing Chaplain Larry Call andfaaily brought back OLD tiaes. I tell you the rafters in theChapel shook! Military people REALLY respond to *leflectioft3inviesu', and requests were aany after our prograa finished.

Back through the San Jose area, as we headed South. Anotherday with Barlene and Gail. She had a surprise for Tia, and whata thrill. We drove to Morgan"Hill, to see 'The Flying Lady'.In an area one least expects, is a auseua, golf course, andfabulous restaurant. The auseua contains a vast collection ofearly to present day airplanes. The restaurant is huge as isthe gift shop and bakery! On a ceiling track, revolvingthroughout the restaurant are replicas of aany, aany planes! If your travels take you that way, GO!

Easter Sunday, 4/19, dawned with radiance! We were with theSan Luis Obispo Church of Christ, and Bob Bowers, sinister,Bob's great ausical ability was a joy for Tia. We arrived

Saturday, so after set up they had a bit of a jaa session, thenMexican food followed. Sally Minor, kindly extended hospitalityfor the night. The crowd was excellent and appreciative, andafter services our hungry stoaachs welcoaed a fabulous noon aeal. Then we were on our way to Atascadero Christian Church. We wereeager to see Dan Scates, then the ainister. The Scates faailieshave been our friends for eon years. Can't reaeaber when we sawDan last! Another wonderful evening, and aeaories that will notfade. One such joy was an after concert visit with Harvey andHelen Beard (Since then Harvey has gone to be with the Lord so)(e cherish that tiae even aore). Inestiaable to us! We shareda SUPER (SOUPER) supper, visit, changed clothes, packed up andleft for hoae at 9:00 P. M. At 2:00 A. M. we paused and thankedour Lord for travel aercies. There is no way to describe Hisp^ace and contentaent. Weary yes, but oh, how He sustained andblessed us!

HAD TO KEEP IT STEADY / TO BE SUBE ffE WERE BEADYThe BIG trip was now on deck. It took soae doing to be

ready. Though I doubted we'd be ready, we were also concerned;two days before, the riots in L.A broke out. The night beforeour departure the airport was halting departures - WB PRAYED!The Lord always gives us the NECESSARY shove and finallf, theLAST of 15 bags (5 clothes and others concert needs) were packed!

Sat. 5/2, up at 3:15 A.M. - to L.A.X. WB FLEW! A change ofplanes was necessary in St. Louis to get to Joplin. After thetake off in St. Louis we thought EVERYTHING looked so faailiar...IT WAS. AQUICK change of planes thenoff again. On hand to aeet us, in Joplin, MO., was our dear friend andainister, of the Christian Church of Carl Junction, Boyce Mouton. We expected hia, but we had a surprise! Boyce escorted us to our hoae away froahoae, for next few days, GOOD NEWS PRODUCTION (how we love thosepeople). Next, it was tiae for Hexican food and covering all theyears past. Such a happy tiae.

Our coarade, Wilbur 'Hutch' Hutchinson, Christian Audio Tapes, towed a vehicle froa Bridgeport, ILL. to Joplin, for our usewhile in that area! He had scheduled aost of this tour for us.What a blessing, what a FRIEND! Thank you so auch Wilbur! Sun.5/3, dawned beautifully, and ended even acre so! Breakfast atthe Carl Junction Church, we spoke to Boyce's Bible School Class,Tia playeda few songs for the aorning worship service, and afterthe Spiritual feast no one needed coaxing to partake of theABUNDANT buffet the ladies provided! Even with various otheractivities scheduled at the saae tiae, attendance was great! Thepeople wanted MORBausic after 'lefleetima itoricaia** Tia wasdelighted to do requests. We aeet and enjoy so aany wonderfulpeople. One such is Gertrude Bdel froa Geraany! In Joplin fora wedding, she attended Church with her faaily. She has adisabled son, so we had so auch in coaaon. An early call 5/ 4, fro§ our long tiaefriends Don Barl and Gail Boatian, residents in ChristianVillage, a aagnificent retireaent coaplex in Joplin. They askedthat we coae to the hoae for Tia to play. A lovely young lady,Dendee Butcherson, Canyon, TX., who is studying Music Therapywas there. She has a beautiful voice and asked Tia to accoapanyher. She sang "My Tribute" and truly it was that. Tia's lastconcert was Sunday P.M. at the Mt. Branson Christian Church,Harold Phillips, ainister. Pelt a certain sadness as this weekwith such glorious opportunities and people caae to a close!'Hutch' was at the caopground so picked up his car. 5/18, thehour was early and rains were hard, nevertheless. Gene drove usthe long distance back to Joplin that we aight get the plane toKnoxville. No probleas UNTIL the lady saw our 15 bags as Ichecked in at the ticket counter. Only the Lord is responsiblefor our getting on that tiny plane! Tia was so excited toarrive in Knoxville, and see Jia Pierson, executive director ofthe Christian Church Foundation for the Handicapped (CCFH), andall the staff. We piled the 15 pieces in Jia's car (wasn'teasy), and off to Pierson's hoae where Horna, Jin's wife,

This was ourhoae base as we were in and out of Knoxville for the next aonth! We appreciated the NOT LIKE California freeways on 5/ 21,enjoying an easy, pleasant trip, as we traveled toCharlottesville, VA. Ralph Carter, ainister of the Cherry Ave,Christian Church, had worked with Jia in setting up our schedulein Virginia. Ralph was a colleague froa ay CBC days. He hadaade reservations at the lovely Howard Johnson's Motel, which hadMORE coaforts than hoae, and I didn't have to aake the bed orclean. 5/22, Ralph had invited ainisters in the state of VA. toreceive inforaation on the progress/plans of SPRINGWOOD CHRISTIANCOMMUNITY (a residence for the handicapped about to be built, inRocky Mountain, VA). In turn we gave an overview of our part andclosed with Tia's concert. Bxciteaent was aost evident. 5/24,We were with Cherry Ave. Christian for their two services in theA.M. Agreat and enthusiastic crowd! 5/28, back toKnoxville. Over dinner relayed our wonderful tiaes to Jia andNoraa. 5/29, Jia had scheduled Tia for a VIDEO to be aade atJohnson Bible College. The crew did an exceptional job, and Tiastayed right with the project and loved it. 5/30, Today, we hada coafortable drive to Cookeville, TN. Hillier Duke and biswife. Ruby treated us as old friends, though we had just aet. After set up for the next day and Tia's practice we wereprivileged to aeet their faaily over Ruby's delicious hoae cookedaeal. The COMFORT Inn (where we stayed) was just that, 5/31,super great response and crowd at the services. Clock andstoaach said lunch tiae. Hillier and Ruby knew of Tia's love forMexican food. After a quick change of clothes, and check out atBotel, we savored the food and fellowship. Such a pleasant tiaein Cookeville!

While in TN. Jia felt we should be privileged to see its'beauty. We squeezed in CADES COVE, a natural park with auchwildlife. Driving slowly at dusk we saw bear, deer, racoons, cows, horses etc. roaa freely. I aa sure they knew they were

protected! So peaceful and pure! Also, a trip to see the GREATSHOSBY HTHS, Viewing N.C. and TN.. at one vast scope isbreathtaking! And of courscj OOLLYWOOD is a nust! Afun dayand PBRPBCT weather. Jia was so right, it is a lust to see TH.

6/3, ABIG DAY today! Newspaper interview at the Foundationoffices, followed by a staff aeeting and early birthday luncheonfor Tia. A "GRAND* piano cake included! Jollity prevailed.Anticipated our return to Jfoodlawn Christian Church (where Jiaand Horaa attend) in Knoxville. Asuperb dinner, preceded theappreciative, sensitive audience, and the rains didn't effectthe crowd. As we entered the Church a figure at the front ofthe auditoriuffl, looking at Tin's art display, waved. I wavedback, but could not tell who it was froi the distance. Abitlater, a voice said, "I think I should get nore than a wave,"Turning around I was stunned! Ky dear, life long friend (andforner neighbor) Iva Mae Keller, Bdon, OB, was attending JohnconBible College (JBC) SR. SAINTS week. Hearing of the concert sheand her friend, Hrs. Burkholder (Bdon) caae! Also, aore oldhoaetown friends (Canton, OH) area Clarence and BthelyneLinsenbigler, now at JBC were there. Seeing these specialfriends, knowing aany in the congregation and sharing theexciteaent of the GREAT prograa this church has for the disabledwe felt we were about to burst with exhilaration! 6/6, faithfulin financial/prayer support, to our work, for years has been theHartford Christian Church, Darrel Courdray, ainister, inHartford, SY. It's been soae years since we were there, also.Well, the tiae was here, and with Jia we eabarketi upon theexcursion. Upon arrival, Charles Lindsey greeted us waraly. The Church had reservations at a bed and breakfast, so after setup, Charles drove us to this elegant and unique hoae. We gotaore than the fara fresh breakfast, a scruaptious southerncooked dinner awaited us! 6/7, then, in the aorning aheartwaraing reunion with these dear friends. The Bible SchoolI Worship hours were shared by Jia preaching a coapassionateaessage, illustrating the depth of God's love and Tia doing'lefleetioBSAiBfieaoa'• They had not seen Tia's art so we wereso happy to share this. Becoaing acquainted with the CourdraysBade lunch even aore enjoyable, and on our jaunt back toKnoxville we relived our wonderful, blessings and experiences! This happiness had aixed eaotions, however! OH TUB 18H 9&a0?EBj Before we knew it we lugged the bags (only 11 now) backto the airport again. They seeaed auch heavier, possiblybecause we had heavy hearts leaving those we are now workingwith, and have becoae so attached to in such a short tiae. There was hardy robust laughter asJia, Noraa, Rachelle (Jia andNoraa's daughter) and Dana honored us as the airport over lunchbefore we left. (They aet us AFTER we checked the bags!) Areyou thinking what I'a thinking? An absolutely FLAWLESS triphoae, even to the extent NO FRBBWAY hangups, though it was rushhour...I had second thoughts about being glad to be hoae! Tonsof aail (Bags of junk aail) to go through in case any firstclass was aisplaced, dirty clothes everywhere, a tape aachinefull of phone calls, and a busy calendar ahead. After a good

nights rest I changed ay thinking, it was GOOD to be here! The BIG 40, (June 23) was on deck for Tia! Asurprise party

was set for June 15, at the lovely hoae of our kids (we claiathea) Ann and Bruce Tilton, and additionally our neighbors Stanand Bernie Detweiler wanted to share so, helped with food. About40 friends gave Tia a glorious afternoon which was truly asurprise! Having been told by so aany he was going down hillwhen he hit 40, I guess he thought he really was going to feeldifferent. When he got up June 23, he caae out and said, "Hoa,I really don't FBBL any different today!*

We were lifted and encouraged at the North Aierican ChristianConvention held here in Anaheia, July 14 - 17. It was one of thea'ost wonderful conventions ever. The blessings in the aessages, ausic, seeing such dear friends froa all over the country is sothrilling! Our booth was shared with the Foundation. ReaarkableInterest was shown, and we are grateful for those who stopped.Tia played at the Wednesday night afterglow and as always wasthrilled to do so.

The next trip was the week-end of June 28, the Sunday of theBARTHQOAIB. We were at the First Christian Church in Chandler,AZ, Roger Storas, ainister, to present 'leflectioiainfiesi' fortheir July 4th celebration. We were shocked upon hearing newsof the quake on T. V. and felt uneasy not knowing what was goingon at our hoae. Prayer resolves anxiety! In spite of'WONDERING' we had a wonderful tiae and enjoyed lunch with ourtreasured friends Wilaa and Clayton Griastad, before headinghoae. All was well at hoae, only one can of food had fallenfroa the kitchen shelf!

So, this in a MOT SBBLLt (a BIG nut) is our year past.FAMILY MATTERS and CHATTER
