1. Balgowlah Heights Public School NSW Department of Education Enrolment Policy The Department of Education has recently released a new Enrolment Policy. The policy is provided on pages 4 and 5 of this week’s Newsletter. The Policy will be discussed at the next meeting of the P&C Association. If you have any enquiries you are also welcome to contact me. P&C The next meeting of the P&C Association will be on Monday 9 September at 7.00pm. Discussion topics for the night include: NSW Department of Education Enrolment Policy Masterplan Update Proposal to provide $50,000 to support the building of a room on the Eastern Campus for Arabanoo and school use Parent Mathematics Night On Wednesday 11 September we will be holding a Parent Information Night on Mathematics (K-6). The presentation will commence at 6.00pm and involve information on the Mathematics Curriculum and practical suggestions on how we teach mathematics, the types of resources we use and the language we use. The Presentation will conclude at 7.30pm. Further information will be provided next week. Interrelate On Thursday 5 September we will be hosting a visit from Interrelate. There will be two sessions. Details of the sessions are as follows: Session 1 - 6pm: Where Did I Come From? (suitable for students in Years 3 & 4) Session 2 - 7.15pm: Preparing for Puberty (suitable for students in Years 5 & 6) The sessions are for students and parents to attend. Further information will be emailed later this week. P&C Cyber Safety Presentation Thank you to Julie Inman-Grant and Kellie Britnell for their cyber safety presentation. Over 100 parents benefited from the information and suggestions provided. Father’s Day Breakfast We look forward to our Father’s Day Breakfast to be held on Friday of next week (30 August) from 7.00am - 9.00am. Further information is on page 8 of this Newsletter. Book Week We are enjoying celebrating Book Week this week. The theme of Book Week this year is Reading is my Super Power. We are holding a Book Fair and a number of library activities are being undertaken with the students including book readings under the Eastern and Western COLAs.

School Invoices School Invoices for Term 3 were sent home last week detailing the fees for this term which covers educational programs, sports programs, teaching/learning materials and the P&C Voluntary Contribution. Year 4 Drama Ensemble The students in the Year 4 Drama Ensemble will be performing at the Years 3-6 Assembly in the School Hall on Monday (26 August) of next week at 2.00pm. Parents and friends are welcome to attend. Athletics Carnival Congratulations to the students for their involvement and support of each other at our Athletics Carnival last week. Thank you to Mrs Coyle, Mrs Cruickshank, Miss Donlan, Mr Roxburgh, Mrs Chester and Mrs McWhirter for organising the Carnival. Ribbons for all placegetters will be presented at next week’s Years 3-6 Assembly on Monday 26 August at 2.00pm. The results of our carnival can be found on pages 6 and 7 of this Newsletter. We wish the students representing our school next week at the Zone Field Events carnival (Wednesday 28 August) and Zone Track Events carnival (Thursday 29 August) all the best.

Harbourside Music Festival Students in the Junior, Senior and Concert Bands will participate in the Harbourside Music Festival on Sunday (25 August) of next week, commencing at 3.00pm in our School Hall. PSSA Finals Well done to the Junior A Girls Soccer and Junior Rugby League for their efforts in the Winter PSSA Finals last week. The Girls Soccer lost 2-1 and Junior Rugby League lost 12-22. Thank you to Miss Liggett and Mrs Cruickshank for coaching the teams and all the parents for their support.

Recital Night 2019 – Tuesday 10 September One of the performing arts highlights of our school each year for audiences and performers alike is the Recital Night. For more information please refer to page 8 of this Newsletter. Japan 2020 Parent Meeting A meeting for students and their parents participating in the Japan Study Tour in 2020 will be held on Wednesday (21 August) of this week at 7.00pm in the school Library. Information has been emailed to families involved.

Recital Night 2019 - Tuesday 10 September One of the performing arts highlights of our school each year for audiences and performers alike is the Recital Night. The night provides an opportunity for singers and musicians, as individuals or small groups, to perform for family and friends. Recital Night is open to students from Kindergarten to Year 6 who may wish to perform as individuals or in small groups. Register via the online form accessed via this link Recital Evening. The number of performances will be capped so be sure to submit your registration as soon as possible! Registrations close this Monday 26 August at 5pm. More than 100 people attended and the feedback has been very positive. Father’s Day Breakfast - Friday 30 August Order your tickets and food via Flexischools now. Dads, Uncles and Grandads are all welcome to come and enjoy unlimited coffee/tea/juice and either a bacon and egg roll or a pastry with your kids. BHPS Trivia Night – A VIKING’S FEAST Unleash your inner barbarian and prepare for a ferocious battle of the minds! Join in the action on Saturday 21st September 6:30-11pm in the School Hall. Book your fearsome table of 10 via Flexischools for just $65 per person. If you or your business have a prize that you can donate to the trivia night raffle or auction, we’d love to hear from you. Our sponsors so far include Champagne Sailing, Andrea and Joen, The White House Beauty Room, Northern Beaches Rockhouse Indoor Climbing and The Healthy Mummy. In order to boost the prize pool for the night we would be grateful for smaller donations from families at the school. These items will be used to make up amazing hampers for the raffle. Suggested categories for each year are below (of course you can donate from any category).

• Kindy - Women's Health & Beauty • Year 1 - Men's Health & Beauty • Year 2 - Home Décor • Year 3 & 4 - Gourmet Food, Deli items (non-perishable) • Year 5 & 6 - Alcohol

Donations will be accepted from Monday 19 August - Sunday 1 September. Items can be taken by parents only (not students) to the school Administration Office on the Western Campus or dropped directly to the front veranda of our fabulous coordinator, Sharmila Normington at 28 Bareena Drive, Balgowlah Heights. It's still a little chilly, come and grab a Navy Jumper available in sizes 4-12, warm Tracksuit Pants for Sport in sizes 4/6/8 or a cuddly Fleece in sizes 4-14. Year 2: There are still some Recorders available at the Uniform Shop or via Flexischools. Donations Please: If you have outgrown Uniform items, please consider donating to the Uniform Shop. Just leave items at the door. Please check that your donated items are in good condition and are current uniform items, no socks, tights or hair accessories, thank you. If you can't make the Uniform Shop please use the online Order Form located on the school website or Flexischools and your items will be delivered to your child's class. Opening Hours & Fees - Survey Monkey Thank you to all those families who took part in the survey. We discussed the opening times at our PMC meeting and will be considering changes for 2020. Book Week - Monday 19 August - Friday 23 August Books, books, books! We are celebrating book week at Arabanoo! As we have so many keen readers, our books are looking a little sad and tired! If any families have any unused books they would like to give to a new home, we will be accepting donations until the end of the month! Survey Monkey - Discussions We would love to know what issues and topics matter to the wider school community. We are working on putting together a Survey and would love to include your suggestions! Permission for Extra Curricular Activities Any families who are taking part in our wonderful extra-curricular activities, are also required to fill in a permission form. The Form enables us to take your child to their activities! Multi-Purpose Eastern Campus Building In brief the building will enable Arabnoo's growing junior numbers to have an indoor venue on the eastern campus and allow the school to have a flexible space to run a huge range of programs such as; Learning support - Kindy, Mini and Multi literature programs, Enrichment programs, Stage One Choir, Tech Club and K-2 Science Program, Sensory area/breakout space.
