Dear Senator Skelos,Attached, you will find a copy of an
independent poll that was commissioned by the Chairmen ofthe
Republican Parties in Westchester, Putnam and Duchess Counties. The
poll wasindependently conducted, surveying likely Republican
Primary voters in the 40th Senate District.As you know, Senator
Leibell has decided to seek the nomination of our party to be
PutnamCountys next County Executive. Senator Leibell served the
40th Senate District with a high
degree of commitment for 16 years and I greatly respect his
service to our district and our state.
Retaining the 40th District Seat for our party is vital to our
party's ability to regain the majority inthe New York State
Senate.Im very pleased to inform you that the polling data strongly
favors my candidacy for the 40thDistrict Senate seat. I will be
your nominee on September 15th, and in the next 4 months weshould
be working in concert. The independent polling data demonstrates
that registeredRepublican voters will select my candidacy over my
other two opponents by a spread of over 40points.Lastly, the poll
indicates that in a three-way primary that 56% of the registered
Republican voters
would select me as their nominee, which is a margin of 40 points
in relation to my nearestopponent.There is a fundamental question
that must be answered: Are we going to work together to securethis
seat and regain the majority, or are we going to engage in a
multi-million dollar interpartywar and deplete resources that
should be spent regaining the majority?With the compelling results
of this poll in hand, the Senate Republican Campaign Committee
ispresented with a strategic opportunity to redeploy hundreds of
thousands of precious dollars andresources into other critical
races outside of the 40th District to assist candidates that may
needadditional financial support and helps enable our state party
to regain the majority in the NewYork State Senate.
The polling data reflects four years of hard work by my many
supporters, as well as back-to-backlandslide victories in
Republican Primaries, 2006 and 2008, of 72% and 75% respectively.
Bothprimaries were divisive, and cost the party over a million
dollars in resources. I won thoseelections with zero party support
and against all odds, and I am prepared to do so again, if
forced,in 2010.These polls, commissioned by the three County
Chairmen to gain a scientific and objectiveperspective of the
Senate District, demonstrate that the groundwork has been laid for
