Ballast Water Treatment System—Implementation & Maintenance 8-9 December 2016
London, UK ABOUT THE COURSE
With over 80% of global commodities being transported via ship-
ping this translates to over five billion tonnes of ballast water being
moved every year. Ballast water is an important and essential as-
pect of ship operation and stability but the repercussions of its
threat to economic, ecological, and health issues due to the relo-
cation of invasive aquatic species are not unnoticed. A result of
these underlying issues has been acknowledged by national bod-
ies such as classification societies that have established regula-
tions and guidelines surrounding ballast water treatment systems.
The purpose of this course is to give detailed insight into the differ-
ent technical and commercial factors involved in ballast water
treatment systems, which will result in efficient installation and
management.
COST
Course fee will be £650+VAT (UK Only) which includes
course notes and lunches. The fee doesn’t include accommo-
dation. You should make your own arrangements for accom-
modation.

He operated his own maritime consulting company, Blue Seas Environmental Consulting, and served as a
consultant to the US Government on maritime matters. As Port Engineer of the M/V CAPE WASHINGTON, he
helped design the first permanent shipboard Ballast Water Testing Facility as part of the MERC development
team. He is author and contributor on a number of works on the Ballast Water Treatment including “Preview
of Global Ballast Water Treatment Markets (with Dr. D.M. King, P.T. Hagan) which served as the seminal work
on the size and scope of the ballast water market. Mark has an Executive MBA from the University of Pitts-
burgh and lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his wife Amy and his three children: Hannah, Michael and
