Dear Breeder,
The 2014 bloodstock sales season was certainly a buoyant one across the major European sales with all the
leading racing operations bidding to replenish their racing strings. The relative stability in the number of foals
being produced should give rise to optimism that the current strength in the market can be sustained for
some time to come.
2014 was certainly a stellar year for Ballylinch-bred and Ballylinch-sired two year olds. Amongst the best of
the Ballylinch bred is Belardo, impressive winner of the Dewhurst Stakes and a leading fancy for next year’s
Classics. It is the second year in a row that Ballylinch Stud has bred an outstanding two year old, following on
from last year’s Champion Two Year Old Filly Chriselliam.
Belardo’s sire, Lope De Vega, is set to be Europe’s Champion First Crop Sire after an outstanding first season
in which he sired Group winners from 5 furlongs to a mile and a host of other unbeaten and highly promising
juveniles. He looks sure to become one of Europe’s best sires in the years to come.
Dream Ahead’s first yearlings were very well received by the market with a top price of 400,000gns and an
average of over €90,000. He will have well-bred two year olds with most of the top trainers and must be one
of the favourites for next year’s first crop sires title.
Lawman consolidated his position amongst Europe’s top proven stallions with Just The Judge, now one of
the best international racemares, and May Hill Stakes winner Agnes Stewart, a likely Classic filly for next year.
His best bred crops are in the pipeline and will ensure his success for years to come.
Intense Focus had another great year with his two year olds, whilst Astaire is likely to be a leading sprinter
next year. Intense Focus can confirm his status as a sire of precocious, tough, sound horses and is an
excellent choice to start a young mare’s breeding career.
In the meantime, the class shown by the stock of Beat Hollow under both codes means that he is the
ideal replacement for the sensational King’s Theatre, who spent his entire career at Ballylinch Stud
and who is once again miles clear in the National Hunt Sires Championship.
Finally I would again thank all our clients who supported us this year.
I wish you every success for 2015 and beyond.
Yours sincerely,
JOHN O’CONNOR, MANAGING DIRECTOR
