Welcome to Bogstad

Oslo Golfclub, est. 1924 is the oldest golf club in Norway. Our founding fathers were able to make a deal with the owner of Bogstad Gård (across the lake) so that they could build a golf course on his property. The first golfshots were hit autumn 1924. Except for the WW II period when people grew potatoes and other vegetables on the course we have been playing golf here ever since.

Over the years the club has invested in several course upgradings, 2 clubhouses, 2 maintenance buildings, employee / training facilities and so forth. The original area for golf has been changed and added to and is today one of the most compact golf courses in the country with its 18-hole and driving range on only a 120 acre piece of land.

As the only 18-hole course in Oslo keen golfers fre-quently played our course. + 27.000 rounds every year. In the fall of 2007 the course committee and the board came to the same conclusion: The course is worn down. The standard of the playing surface was no longer at a level we want and expect for Bogstad. After a lot of planning, information meet-ings and an extraordinary annual meeting the mem-bers voted yes to a substantial upgrading of the course. Steve Forrest has drawn, and together with entrepreneur Martin Sternberg, created a fantastic golf course. They finished their work spring 2009. With trippel drainage, fully automated water irriga-tion system, sub-air under all greens, sandcapped fairways, bent grass on greens, tees and fairways our new course is among Europe´s most techno-logically advanced and we believe that the course design will meet both the average golfer´s needs for challenge and at the same time be a tough challenge for the professional golfers for many years to come.

Our goal was to make players think about the options avail-able to them on every shot. At the same time, we wanted to add beauty and fun to the golf experience by taking advantage of extraordinary green locations on holes 7, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 16. The natural beauty of the site was always there. We simply showcased it in a way that would fur-ther elevate the status and reputation of Oslo Golfklubb (Bogstad). ”

THE GOLF COURSE

The Oslo Golf Club’s course is beautifully situ-ated around the Bogstad lake. We have built the course according to all the recognized standards, using state of the art technology and all the latest innovation for every detail- this to insure that you will find the a course in top condition. We have introduced bent grass for our greens and fairways, suiting our climate and strong enough to handle the large amount of rounds played at this course. Both tees and greens are single cut and construct-ed according to the USGA norms in order to provide perfect quality. The par 72 championship course measuring about 6300 m is a truly unique design with long par 3’s and water coming into play on several holes. The view of the waterfall on the 12th hole right next to the green is quite rare. The players who would prefer a shorter total distance have a great variety of lengths as the course offers tees approximately 4900 m, 5400m, 5800m 6000m and 6300m. The series of par-3s, 4s and 5s are enjoyable and challenging for all golfing categories.We hope that this course guide will assist you around the golf course, giving you all the distances and other information needed to have a most enjoyable golf experience.

Alle hullengder i guiden er målt fra fra angitt markør på teested til senter green. Rød, gul, hvit prikk i bane-guiden og som vist i eksempelbildet under, markerer 100m, 150m, 200m til senter green. Sorte staker i rough på banen angir samme avstander til green. Stakene ermarkert med en, to eller tre streker. En strek markerer 100m, to streker 150m og tre streker markerer 200m til senter green.

Out of bounce er markert med hvite staker. Sidevannshindre er markert med røde staker.

APPROACHLengder som er markert på lokk angir med sort skrift avstand til forkant, hvit skrift angir avstand til senter green. Avstander fra andre steder med hvit skrift angir avtand til senter green.

Birds that thrive on the golf course

Nature is an important part of a round of golf, and at the Bogstad course we are fortunate to have a rich birdlife. Oslo Golf Club wishes to make conditions favourable to enable different types of birds to thrive. We have set up more than 100 bird boxes around the course.The birds contributes to a nice atmosphere on the course, and they also keep the insect populations in check. One single small bird takes several thousand insects a day.

Here are some birds you probably will encounter during the golf season:

Chimney swift (Tårnseiler)Great aviators who go at high speed across the fairways in search of small insects. At Bogstad they prefer the wide-open fairways on holes 12 and 13. They are coming from South-Africa in May, and return in September.

Black and white FlycatchersThey are frequently observed on holes 11 and 12. Come to the country in April-May from tropical Africa, and return in September.

Treecreeper (Trekryper)Treecreeper is a small bird of 12-13 cm. It is often seen crawling up tree trunks loo-king for insects in the bark crevices. It’s often observed by the 16th green and 17th tee.

(Fluesnapper)

Great Cormorant (Storskarv)Often been seen on a stake out in the water outside the 13th green.

Mallard (Stokkand)Mallard is the most common type of duck in Norway and is staying at the Bogstad Lake most of the year. They like to be around the 16th and 17th hole.

Great Spotted Woodpecker Pecking on tree trunks to find dif-ferent kinds of insects and acorns. At Bogstad their nests are often seen between the holes 6 and 12.

Canada Goose (Canadagås)Released in Norway in the 1960s. Not too popular on the golf course, because of the excrements. They are staying in large and small groups near the water.

Barnacle Goose (Hvitkinngås)A bit similar to Canada goose, but smaller.

Greylag Goose (Grågås)Often seen on the fairways, greens and tees near the water.

Other types of birds that are often to be seen at Bogstad: Song thrush, black thrush, white wagtails, crow, magpie, wood pigeon, great tit, mute swan, owl, hooded gull, heron, goldeneye, teal and many more.
