Bangalore Medical Services Trust (BMST), a not-for-profit organization, was established by the Rotary Club of Bangalore and TTK & Company in 1984.
BMST, initially set up to provide blood-banking services through its division, the Rotary Bangalore-TTK Blood Bank, has evolved over time to become a centre of excellence in the areas of blood banking, transfusion and Immunohematology; transplant Immunology; tissue banking; solid organ and stem cell transplantation; Training; Research; and community based health education and health services.
Our vision:
To inspire a billion people to save lives!
BMST verticals:
Rotary Bangalore TTK Blood Bank: As a Regional Blood Transfusion Centre and Immuno-Hemotology Reference Lab for South India, the highlights of the blood bank areŸ 100 % Voluntary donor blood only, no replacementŸ Over 40,000 units of blood collected per yearŸ 100% blood separated into components, Ÿ Over 90,000 blood components preparedŸ NABH accreditedŸ Screening for HIV, Hepatitis B & C by Chemi-luminescence as well as ID
NATŸ More than 500 hospitals and 50,000 patients served per year
Transplant Immunology, HLA Lab: We support the organ transplant programs for various hospitals in Karnataka. We do the pre and post- transplant testing for solid organ donations -Heart, Liver, Kidney etc as well as for Bone Marrow Transplants.
Thalassemia Program: At BMST's day care transfusion centre, blood components are given free for patients with Thalassemia, Hemophilia and other hematological disorders who need regular, repeat transfusions. The Thalassemia Control Programme was initiated in 2010 to screen the relatives of known Thalassemia patients for carrier status followed by genetic counseling.
Training: We are recognized by Department of H&FW, Government of India, WHO as well as several National and International bodies to provide education, training, capacity building, technical know-how, expertise and support in the areas of Blood Banking and Transfusion Services, Immunohematology, quality management, HLA and Transplant Immunology.
R &D, advocacy: We play a major role in Policy making for Blood Banking and Transfusion Services at both Central and State level. BMST is a recognized research centre of DSIR (Department of Scientific & Industrial Research)
"I have got the HLA results. But tell me if I can go ahead with the
transplant or not" is the question a clinician may ask.
Let us discuss how to answer this and
other such questions. Also at the end of the course we would like to
initiate multi centric research. Are you Interested?
5 seats only per course; Course Fee: Rs.60000/-
BMST's NABH Accredited, HLA laboratory is one of the foremost testing facilities in India which carries out pre and post- transplant tests for both Bone Marrow Transplant as well as solid organ-Kidney, heart, liver- transplants.
At the HLA laboratory, the following tests are done:
Ÿ CDC Cross MatchMethod: Serology Clinical use: The CDC Cross Match is done to detect presence of pre-formed anti-donor HLA antibodies in the serum of potential recipients. The AHG CDC cross match detects these antibodies with greater sensitivity than the routine
Ÿ Luminex DSA Cross MatchMethod: Luminex based cross match using donor lysateClinical use: To detect the presence of antibodies directed against the HLA antigens of the donor & specific HLA IgG antibodies against Class I and/or Class II antigens. It is ideal for pre- and post-transplant testing.
Ÿ Flow Cross MatchMethod: FlowCytometer TClinical use: Flow cytometric crossmatch (FCXM) is more sensitive than complement-dependent cytotoxic crossmatch (CDC-XM). FCXM testing for IgG antibodies against T-cells, B-cells or undifferentiated lymphocytes.
Ÿ HLA typing AB DRMethod: SSO/SSP PCR, Intermediate resolution HLA typingClinical use: To identify the Human Leukocyte antigens/ HLA alleles present on the WBCs of the donor / patient for Bone Marrow as well as solid organ transplant
Ÿ PRA / Panel reactive Antibody testingMethod: Luminex bead based ImmunoassayClinical use: Class I and II ID panels provide antibody identification and panel-reactive antibody (PRA) information
Ÿ Single Antigen testMethod: Luminex bead based ImmunoassayClinical use: Immunoassays used to qualitatively detect the specificity of HLA, Class I & II IgG antibodies for optimized selection of donor for allo-sensitized patients especially patients waiting for deceased donor transplant
Luminex based TestingŸ One among very few labs in India to use advanced
technique for solid organ & bone marrow transplantsŸ Tests for all cadaver donor transplants in Karnataka.
