BAR DIAGRAM

A bar chart/Diagram is a chart with rectangular bars with lengths proportional tothe

values that they represent. Bar charts are used for comparing two or more values.

The bars can be horizontally or vertically oriented. Sometimes a stretched graphic is

used instead of a solid bar.

Simple Bar diaram! A simple bar chart is used to represents data involving only one

variable classified on spatial, uantitative or temporal basis.!n simple bar chart, we

ma"e bars of eual width but variable length, i.e. the magnitude of a uantity is

represented by the height or length of the bars. #ollowing steps are underta"en in

MULTIPLE BAR DIAGRAM

By multiple bars diagram two or more sets of inter-related data are

represented (multiple bar diagram facilities comparison between more thanone phenomenons). The technique of simple bar chart is used to draw thisdiagram but the difference is that we use different shades, colors, or dots todistinguish between different phenomena.

SUB-DIVIDED BAR DIAGRAM

Sub-divided or component bar chart is used to represent data in which the total

magnitude is divided into different or components. !n this diagram, first we ma"e

simple bars for each class ta"ing total magnitude in that class and then divide these

simple bars into parts in the ratio of various components. This type of diagram shows

the variation in different components within each class as well as between different

classes. Sub5divided bar diagram is also "nown as component bar chart or sta"ed

chart.

PERCENTAGE BAR DIAGRAM

Sub5divided bar chart may be drawn on percentage basis. To draw sub5divided barchart on percentage basis, we epress each component as the percentage of its

respective total. !n drawing percentage bar chart, bars of length eual to 1:: for

each class are drawn at first step and sub5divided in the proportion of the

percentage of their component in the second step. The diagram so obtained is called

percentage component bar chart or percentage sta"ed bar chart. This type of chart is

useful to ma"e comparison in components holding the difference of total constant.

DEVIATION BAR DIAGRAM

Deviation bars are used to represent net uantities 5 ecess or deficit i.e. net profit,

net loss, net eports or imports, swings in voting etc. Such bars have both

positive and negative values. 'ositive values lie above the base line and negative

values lie below it.
