Reverse Personal Goals and Reflection Beginning ballet II, I was unsure if I was ready for the challenge. I had taken ballet through middle school but stopped after 8th grade due to a bad knee injury and since forgotten many basic techniques and moves. Neglecting dance for 5 years has left me more than a little rusty and my knee injury has compromised my strength and flexibility in my left leg. I was nervous my previous experience would not come back and my inexperience would make me look silly in class compared to the other dancers. However, I think I made the right decision in taking dance II. Though it is still a struggle and I make many beginner mistakes, much of my previous experience is slowly coming back and Im already learning a lot. Im struggling most with frappes, proper technique, and my arms. Im sure its frustrating that Im making so many beginner mistakes, but know I am honestly taking all your reminders and critiques to heart. Im so grateful that you and the class has been extremely helpful, nonjudgmental, and welcoming. Ive been practicing in the Dolson hallway many of the combinations and have attended a review for one of your others classes in order to try and improve and catch up. Unfortunately, I have been unable to attend any ballet I review sessions as I planned due to a scheduling conflict. My personal goals for the rest of the semester is to gain strength back in my left leg, achieve my splits, learn to better carry myself as a ballerina, and to become better at multitasking as I dance (thinking of my arms, posture, feet, gaze, legs, hips, etc. all at once) I hope you see that Im trying hard and I hope by the end of the semester I will have improved greatly, proving to myself that I deserve to be in ballet II.
