Lesson 5 Jesus Christ, Our

Saviour

BASIC BIBLE DOCTRINES | LESSON 5 – “Jesus, Our Saviour”

INTRODUCTION

The question is often asked, “What is God doing about the problem of sin and suffering in the world?” In this study guide we will be looking at what God has done in response to sin and how it affects every human being on planet earth.

BASIC BIBLE DOCTRINES | LESSON 5 – “Jesus, Our Saviour”

1. What was God's response to the problem of sin? What solution did He offer to humanity? John 3:16“For God so ___________ the __________, that he gave his only ___________________, that whosoever ___________ in him should not ____________, but have ____________________.”

BASIC BIBLE DOCTRINES | LESSON 5 – “Jesus, Our Saviour”

NOTE:

God took the decision to give His Son as a sacrifice for our sins even before the world was created. For God knew that because He created man with a free will, the possibility exists that man could sin. That is why Adam and Eve did not die immediately after they sinned, because the plan of salvation was activated as soon as they sinned (see Rev. 13:8; 2 Timothy 1:8-10).

BASIC BIBLE DOCTRINES | LESSON 5 – “Jesus, Our Saviour”

3. When was this plan of salvation first revealed to man? Genesis 3:15

“And I will put __________ between thee and the ___________, and between _____________ and ______________; it shall bruise thy _____________, and thou shalt bruise his ______________.”

NOTE:

God's plan of salvation was first revealed in the Garden of Eden, when God came to question Adam and Eve about what they had done. The “Seed of the Woman” refers to Jesus Christ, who would “crush the Serpent's head” (See Galatians 3:16; Romans 16:20; Revelation 12:5).

4. Though the Son of God did not come into the world until approximately 4,000 years after creation, were the people who lived before His coming given the opportunity to believe in Him? 1 Corinthians 10:1-4

“And did all ____________the same spiritual ___________; And did all _________________the same spiritual ___________: for they drank of that ____________________that followed them: and that Rock was ______________” (see also Luke 24:44-46; Hebrews 4:1, 2; John 8:56; Isaiah 9:6, 7; Acts 10:43).

NOTE:

Yes, they did. Through the sacrificial system and the teaching of the prophets, God spoke to the people about the coming Messiah—in whom they could find forgiveness of sins, even before He came to die.

NOTE:

Jesus took our sins upon Himself and died in our place. He suffered as if He was the One responsible for the sins of the whole world. For the Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

BASIC BIBLE DOCTRINES | LESSON 5 – “Jesus, Our Saviour”

NOTE:

Jesus was God, dwelling in human flesh. He veiled His divinity with humanity, so that He could experience the life of a human being—to face and overcome temptation as a man (see Hebrews 2:14-17; 1 Timothy 3:16; John 1:1-3; 14). Therefore, He was both God and man.

9. What does the Scripture mean when it refers to Jesus as a Lamb “without spot or blemish”? 1 John 3:5

“And ye know that he was _______________ to take away _____________________; and in him is no _________________.”

BASIC BIBLE DOCTRINES | LESSON 5 – “Jesus, Our Saviour”

NOTE:

In order to be our substitute and sacrifice, Jesus had to be sinless, and He was (see also 1 Peter 2:21, 22). Therefore, He was able to offer up Himself as a perfect and acceptable sacrifice for us.

BASIC BIBLE DOCTRINES | LESSON 5 – “Jesus, Our Saviour”

10. As a man, did Jesus gain the victory over Sin, Satan and Death for us? Hebrews 2:14“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of _____________and ___________________, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through _____________ he might ______________ him that had the power of death, that is, the ____________________;”

BASIC BIBLE DOCTRINES | LESSON 5 – “Jesus, Our Saviour”

NOTE:

In order to truly benefit from what Jesus has done for the world, each person must decide in their heart to renounce the sinful ways of the world and accept Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord (see also Acts 16:30, 31). We will study more about how to be saved in the next lesson.
