Basic switches are: smaller than your thumb simple on/off devices using a snap spring
mechanism high precision devices with long life capable of handling up to 26A actuated by a variety of levers

Fundamental of Basic Switch
Also named sensitive switch or micro switch, symbol in wiring diagram is SM. Operation Principle:
Through different kinds of operation heads, external force operates at the internal spring, when the spring move to the critical point, it will make a snap action, and the contacts fixed with it will open or close.
When the external force disappear, the spring will recover to the original position through the critical point. Also a snap action will make the contacts back to the original status.

9 Honeywell Confidential
Fundamental of Basic Switch
FP – Free Position, is the position of the operating mechanism when it is at rest, also called initial position.
OP – Operating Position, is the position that the switch contacts change state.
PT – Pre-travel, is the distance or travel that the actuator needs to move to trigger the switch.
OT – Over-travel, is the maximum distance or travel the actuator can move past the OP.
RP – Release Position, is the position that the contacts revert to the free position state when coming from the OP.
DT – Differential travel, is the distance between OP and RP, also known as “hysteresis”
OF – Operating Force, is the force required to depress the plunger and operate the switch.
RF – Release Force, is the amount of force that the plunger will return to its free state which is the same state the switch is in when the plunger is at the free position.
RT – Release-travel, is the distance or travel that the actuator moves to free position from RP.
TTP – Total Travel Position, is the position that the actuator stops.
TF – Total Force, is the force to keep the actuator staying in TTP.

Normal Open (NO) and Normal Close (NC)
Switches contain circuits that can be normally opened (NO) or normally closed (NC).
A normal open circuit does not make a connection in its un-actuated state. Since there is no connection, the current or signal does not pass through it.
A normal close circuit makes a connection in its un-actuated state. When un-actuated the current or signal is allowed to pass.

There are three major types of contact blocks in Honeywell basic switches. These types are called Single Pole Single Throw (SPST), Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT), and Double Pole Double Throw (DPDT) Poles – number of independent circuits that can pass through the switch at one timeThrows – number of circuits that each individual pole a switch can control
SPDT
Typical SPDT Double Break circuitry diagram
Only one or a single circuit can be closed (allow current to pass) at a time in a SPDT switch
DPDT
Typical DPDT Double Break circuitry diagram
Two or “double” circuits can be closed (allow
current to pass) at a time in a DPDT
switch

Full Product Ranges:• Can almost replace all
competitors’ products
Strength Opportunity
Weakness Threat
High Quality: • Quality same as V3/V7 series• Same outline and install
dimension as V3/V7• Qualified by Whirlpool
• Not many people know Honeywell as a basic switch player
• Channel sales is not good
Brand Reputation:• Honeywell basic switch
is well-known in US and EU
• In China, Honeywell is also famous in some ACS BU
• Full approvals for customers’ export requirement
• Products customization for special applications
• Competitors also localized manufacture and decrease cost
