SABRES VMAVERICKS
STURT faces the daunting task of toppling first-placed Eastern Mavericks at Pasadena on Saturday night.
The Sabres’ finals hopes are on the line over the final five rounds of the season and a win over the Mavericks would provide a huge boost.
Sturt split last weekend’s double-header, falling to North Adelaide by a point in a strong showing before bouncing back with an emphatic victory over West Adelaide.
The split leaves the Sabres in sixth spot, a win back from fifth-ranked Forestville.
Sturt will also want to show it is capable of matching the competition’s best sides.
Aside from two wins over the Southern Tigers the Sabres have been on the wrong side of the scoreline against top-five clubs.
That includes a 14-point loss to the Mavericks when the sides met back in round five.
Eastern was led by 29 points from Alex Wilson and broke the game open in the first 30 minutes.

STURT will look to shrug off its disappointing double-header weekend when it hosts the Eastern Mavericks.
The Sabres fell in both games last weekend, dropping from first to sixth in the congested men’s competition.
Sturt lost to North Adelaide by seven points in a top-of-the-table clash before backing up with a 22-point defeat at the hands of West Adelaide at home.
The Sabres are equal with second-placed Forestville, who have a superior percentage, entering what
looms as a thrilling final five rounds.
While the Mavericks are not in contention, Sturt must win to stay in the mix.
The Sabres were well served by Sam Daly last weekend.
Daly scored 20 points in the loss to West on Sunday.
Eastern went down to North Adelaide and Forestville in a pair of double-digit losses.
Lachlan Barker led the Mavs for points across the weekend.

WEST Adelaide will hope to reproduce its round five performance against Southern Tigers when the pair clash at Port Adelaide.
The Bearcats took it to the Tigers at Morphett Vale when they met last, losing by one point despite losing Brielle Ward in the opening exhanges.
West nearly pulled off the win late in the game.
The Bearcats will be hoping to show the same fight as they chase a fifth win of the season against the finals-bound Tigers.
West lost both games of last weekend’s double-header – to Norwood and Sturt – and has dropped five of its past six to fall back from the top-five.
Southern has rolled back into form by beating the bottom three sides on the ladder after a slow start to June.
Raynisha Washington was a standout out for the Tigers last weekend, scoring 14 points in Sunday’s win over Woodville a day after having 13 rebounds against Central Districts.

WEST Adelaide and the Southern Tigers meet in a blockbuster clash at Port Adelaide with finals – and top-three – spots on the line.
The Bearcats will be looking to overturn the early-season result between the sides when they went down by 13 points at Morphett Vale.
With the two sides locked away on eight wins the result could be crucial at the end of the season if top five spots need to be decided by a tiebreaker.
West has been one of the form sides of the men’s
competition recently, winning five of its past six.
The Bearcats’ sole loss in that time was a three-point defeat to Norwood last Saturday night.
Southern has been inconsistent.
The Tigers have lost two of their past four, including last Sunday’s defeat against Woodville.

NORWOOD will be looking to consolidate a spot in the top three when it faces Woodville at home.
The Flames surged into the top three last weekend following wins over West Adelaide and South Adelaide.
Now the aim is to stay there over the final five rounds of the season.
That is no simple task with the competition so close and North Adelaide and Forestville hot on their heels.
Norwood is the form team of the women’s competition,
winning six straight since losing to Eastern Mavericks on May 20.
A win over the lowly Warriors is crucial ahead of the Flames embarking on a tough stretch that includes games against Southern Tigers, Eastern and Sturt.
Norwood won 64-51 when the sides met in round five after racing to a 31-17 lead after 20 minutes.

WOODVILLE will look to repeat its impressive win over the Southern Tigers when it visits Norwood on Saturday night.
The Warriors stunned the Tigers at home to keep their slim finals hopes alive.
Woodville’s fifth win of the season kept them mathematically in the race for a top-five spot.
But beating Southern will count for almost nothing if the Warriors do not back it up against Norwood.
The Flames are one of five
teams on eight wins and split only by percentage.
Norwood recorded double-header weekend wins over West Adelaide and South Adelaide to extend its winning run to five games.

North can bounce back against the struggling Lions.
The Rockets should have few issues against the last-ranked visitors.
North crushed Centrals 103-57 on the road earlier in the season.
The Rockets charged to a
29-point advantage at half-time and blew the game wide open with a 36-19 third period.
Jo Hill led an even team-effort with 15 points and seven rebounds as six North players hit double figures.
Alisha Carlin’s 16 points were a highlight for the Lions.
The Rockets can keep in the top three race with a win here, while Centrals will be aiming to show some character over the final rounds of a tough season.

NORTH Adelaide can move a step closer to the minor premiership when it faces Central Districts at Hillcrest.
The Rockets sit two wins out in front of the chasing pack with five minor round games remaining.
At a minimum, a win would help North’s chances of locking down a top-three berth and vital finals double chance.
The Rockets won both of their games last weekend, responding to their 28-point loss against Norwood a week earlier.
North defeated Sturt by seven to reclaim top spot and then accounted for the Eastern Mavericks by 28.
Alex Starling stood tall in the important win over Sturt, scoring 27 points along with 15 rebounds.
The Rockets won the round five clash between the two sides at Starplex by 13.
North withstood a three-point barrage early on by the Lions.
Aric Miller scored 24 points.

PANTHERS VEAGLES
SOUTH Adelaide stands in the way of Forestville maintaining its spot in the top five.
The Panthers missed a chance to climb out of the bottom two – losing to Woodville – last weekend but have shown character and improvement in recent weeks.
Last Sunday they were right in their game against Norwood until deep into it.
South trailed the Flames by three points at three quarter-time.
Haley Bunce was a standout with 20 points and nine
rebounds while Madeline Cunningham added 15 points.
Forestville is another big test for the young Panthers.
The Eagles have many weapons to cover.
It showed against Eastern Mavericks last weekend as Forestville recorded a one-point win.
Meg Prosser stood up with 17 points as Olivia Thompson and Samantha Defrancesco were limited to 13 each.

SOUTH Adelaide will try and keep its season alive with a win over Forestville in a standalone Sunday game.
The Panthers’ season is alive, just, but they must beat a top team to remain in finals contention.
So far they have been around the mark against top teams but struggled to get the win.
South did beat Sturt a few weeks back but last weekend failed to get over Norwood.
Forestville returned to form last weekend with two wins and jumped back to second
on the ladder as a result.
The Eagles can not take the Panthers lightly and need to make sure of their own finals spot.
Last time they met Forestville win 100-80.
Majok Deng starred for the Eagles, scoring 47 points and adding 15 rebounds.
On the other side, Eian Davis put down 35 points.
Davis will need to be on for South to have a chance.
