En el exterior destacan la figura del templo, la inconclusa Puerta del Perdón o de las Campanas (de estilo gótico tardío), y la Puerta del Sol (de estilo plateresco), labrada, a mediados del siglo XVII, a modo de gran portada-retablo, con profusa e interesantísima iconografía.

Está declarada Bien de Interés Cultural.

On the outside of the building, the Puerta del Sol, (the plateresque sculpture representing the altar which adorns the church’s entrance, carved in the middle of the seventeenth century), the figure of the temple, the unfinished Puerta del Perdón (the Door of Forgiveness) or de Las Campanas (the Bell door), stand out because of their extravagant and highly interesting iconography.

It is a Place of Cultural Interest.

La Iglesia Mayor Prioral - Basílica menor Nuestra Señora de los Milagros, comenzó a levantarse en estilo gótico tardío en el siglo XV. Ya se encontraba en delicado estado de conservación cuando el terremoto del 14 de octubre de 1636 causó graves destrozos.

Sobre lo que quedó en pie se llevó a cabo su reedificación. Tras el terremoto de 1755 solo hubo que realizar obras de consolidación de la cimentación, que se aprovecharon para otras intervenciones en el interior del edificio.

The construction of the late gothic style Priory Church started in the 15th Century. However, an earthquake on the 14th of October of 1636 caused serious damage and left it in a delicate state.

The reconstruction works were carried out upon what was left of the building. Following another earthquake in 1755 it was only necessary to carry out work to strengthen its foundations, whilst doing this, they took the opportunity to do some restoration work in the interior of the building.

La iglesia se estructura en tres naves. La central se encuentra dividida por el coro (s. XVII), con magnífica cerrajería y sillería.

La capilla de El Sagrario (s.XVII) alberga un precioso retablo de plata de San Luís de Potosí (México). En la capilla de la Virgen de los Milagros, patrona de la ciudad, destaca la talla gótica (s. XIII) de la entonces también llamada Santa María de El Puerto, loada en las Cantigas de Alfonso X el Sabio.

Además, se pueden admirar extraordinarias obras de imaginería, retablística, orfebrería, forja y pintura sacra de diferentes épocas y estilos artísticos.

The church is made up of three naves. The central one is divided into the 17th. century choir, with its magnificent door and pews.

The seventeenth century side chapel, El Sagrario, which has a beautiful silver alter from Saint Louis of Potosí (Mexico). The Chapel of the Virgen de los Milagros (Capilla de la Virgen de los Milagros) , the patroness of the city. Within this chapel, the main highlight is the eighteenth century gothic image of the Virgin, also known as Santa Maria de El Puerto prised in las Cantigas de Alfonso X el Sabio (The songs of Holy Mary of Alfonso X the Wise).

You can also admire the extraordinary works of imagery, alters, gold and silverware, carvings and sacred paintings from different periods and which are representative of different artistic styles.
