This brochure was produced by Punch Graphix to provide an insight into the exposure qual-ity o�ered by the UV-Setter. The whole brochure was imaged onto negative printing plates on a UV-Setter using three types of screening, and was then printed on Pro�silk 250 g/m2 paper on a �ve-colour printing press.

CHAPTER 2 SAFETY REGULATIONS 2.1 USE AS PRESCRIBED THE UV-SET TER™ HAS BEEN DESIGNED FOR COMMERCIAL USE. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT THE OPERATING PERSONNEL IS FAMILIAR WITH THIS OPERATOR‘S GUIDE. THE UV-SET TER™ IS INTENDED FOR THE EXPOSURE OF PHOTOSENSITIVE MATERIALS WITH A SPECTRAL SENSITIVITY IN THE RANGE BET WEEN 360 AND 450 NM (WITH UV LAMPS) OR 405 NM (WITH LASER DIODES). IT WILL EXPOSE PLANE MEDIA WITH A THICKNESS BET WEEN 0.15 TO MAX. 2 MM. WITH GENERATION 5 AND HIGHER, THE LIGHT SOURCE OF THE UV-SET TER CONSISTS OF LASER DIODES. THIS WILL DISCONNECT THE UV-SET TER™ SO THAT IT WILL STOP IMMEDIATELY. IF EMERGENCY STOP IS TRIPPED DURING AN EXPOSURE, THE EXPOSURE MUST BE REPEATED. FIG. 2-6 BEFORE RESTARTING THE UV-SETTER™ MAKE SURE THAT THE EMERGENCY STOP BUTTON IS UNLOCKED. TO DO SO, TURN THE EMERGENCY STOP BUT TON EITHER IN THE CLOCKWISE OR IN THE COUNTERCLOCKWISE DIRECTION UNTIL IT UNLOCKS AUDIBLY. THEN PUSH THE START BUTTON TO START THE UV-SETTER. CHAPTER 3 DESIGN AND FUNCTION PRINCIPLE THE UV-SETTER™ IS A DIGITAL IMAGESET TER. OUR RANGE OF PRODUCTS COMPRISES UV-SET TERS™ WITH ONE OR T WO EXPOSURE HEADS, AS WELL AS MANUAL AND FULLY AUTOMATIC SYSTEMS (THE UV-SET TERS™ 15X2/16X2 ARE ONLY AVAILABLE AS MANUAL SYSTEMS). WITH THE UV-CTP™ TECHNIQUE (COMPUTER TO CONVENTIONAL PLATE) FROM PUNCH GRAPHIX PREPRESS GERMANY, CONVENTIONAL OFFSET PRINTING PLATES CAN BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE RELIABLE AND FAST CTP PRODUCTION. UV-SET TERS™ CAN EXPOSE ALL STANDARD PRINTING PLATE FORMATS. 3.1 DESIGN THE UV-SET TER IS DESIGNED AS AN ENCLOSED, COMPACT MACHINE (SEE FIG. 3-1). FIG. 3-1 ACCESS TO THE EXPOSURE UNIT IS OBTAINED VIA A HINGED COVER. SOME HOUSING PARTS OF THE UV-SETTER CAN BE REMOVED FOR MAINTENANCE OR INSTALLATION PURPOSES (SEE ILLUSTRATIONS BELOW). THE BASE FRAME INCORPORATES THE POWER SUPPLY AND MACHINE CONTROL COMPONENTS, AS WELL AS A CONTROL PC AND THE FAN MOTORS COOLING CERTAIN COMPONENTS WITH AIR. THE INDIVIDUAL COMPONENTS OF THE UV-SET TER ARE CONTROLLED VIA THE CONTROL PC. THE GRAY CAST IRON PLATE WITH THE DRIVE ELEMENTS, THE POSITIONING SYSTEM AND THE VACUUM PUNCHED-HOLE PLATE IS MOUNTED ON THE BASE FRAME. THE MATERIAL TO BE EXPOSED (E.G. PRINTING PLATES) IS DEPOSITED ON THE VACUUM PUNCHED-HOLE PLATE (SEE FIG. 3-5). FIG. 3-5 THE VACUUM PUNCHED-HOLE PLATE PROVIDES AN EXCELLENT SURFACE QUALITY AND IS MANUFACTURED INDIVIDUALLY FOR THE PARTICULAR CUSTOMER. IT POSSESSES SMALL HOLES THROUGH WHICH A VACUUM IS GENERATED OR BLOW AIR IS SUPPLIED. FOR EXACT ALIGNMENT OF THE PRINTING PLATES, REGISTER PINS CAN BE INSERTED. OPTIONALLY, THE UV-SET TER™ MAY POSSESS T WO EXPOSURE HEADS, WHICH CAN THEN BE CONTROLLED INDEPENDENTLY OF EACH OTHER ON THE Y AXIS. EXPOSURE CAN BE PERFORMED USING EITHER ONLY ONE OR BOTH EXPOSURE HEADS. IN ADDITION, AN EXTERNAL COOLING UNIT IS SUPPLIED WHICH PROVIDES FOR THE HEAT COMPENSATION OF THE COMPONENTS SUBJECT TO THERMAL LOAD (EXPOSURE HEAD, LINEAR MOTORS OF THE X AND Y AXES, ETC.). 3.2 FUNCTION PRINCIPLE 3.2.1 FUNDAMENTALS THE DSI2 EXPOSURE METHOD FROM PUNCH GRAPHIX PREPRESS GERMANY, IN COMBINATION WITH THE HIGH-END OPTICS, ALLOWS STRIPS OF 1,024 PIXELS IN WIDTH TO BE EXPOSED IN ONE CONTINUOUS MOVEMENT. THE HEART OF THE METHOD IS A MICRO-MIRROR CHIP (DIGITAL MICROMIRROR DEVICE™, DMD™). APPROX. 0.8 MILLION DIGITALLY CONTROLLED AND INDIVIDUALLY ALIGNED MICRO-MIRRORS ARE TO BE FOUND ON THIS DEVICE, MAKING UP A TOTAL MIRROR SURFACE OF APPROX. 1.5 CM2. DURING EXPOSURE, THE LIGHT STRIKING THE MIRROR SURFACE IS EITHER PROJECTED THROUGH THE OPTICS TO THE PRINTING PLATE OR ELSE REFLECTED AWAY; THE RESULT WILL BE A RASTER IMAGE. 3.2.2 EXPOSURE PROCESS AFTER AN EXPOSURE PROCESS HAS BEEN STARTED, THE CONTROL PC WILL SPLIT THE IMAGE FILES EXISTING IN THE FORM OF TIFF FILES INTO INDIVIDUAL STRIPS IN WIDTH OF THE DISPLAY. THESE ARE TRANSFERRED TO THE DMD™ VIA THE ALREADY POSITIONED EXPOSURE HEAD. SO-CALLED TRIGGER ELECTRONICS ARE SUPPLIED WITH THE REQUIRED INFORMATION

REGARDING THE DESIRED TRIGGER POSITIONS. THE TRIGGER ELECTRONICS GRANT DIRECT ACCESS TO THE LINEAR ENCODERS OF THE Y AXIS AND PROVIDE FOR A TRUE-TO-REGISTER SHIFTING OF THE IMAGE INFORMATION. THE VIOLET LIGHT OF THE LASER DIODES IS REFLECTED ACCORDING TO THE IMAGE DATA EXISTING ON THE DMD™ AND IS PASSED TO THE UV SENSITIVE PRINTING PLATE. ONCE A STRIP IS COMPLETED, THE AXIS BEARING THE EXPOSURE HEAD TRAVERSES TO THE POSITION OF THE NEXT STRIP. IF ALL STRIPS ARE EXPOSED, THE EXPOSURE HEAD RETURNS TO ITS PARK POSITION. 3.3 PRINTING PLATE LOADING UNIT („LOADER“) IF THE AUTOMATIC MODE IS ACTIVATED AND AN EXPOSURE JOB (IN THE PROGRAM REFERRED TO AS „JOB“) IS CREATED, THE UV-SET TER™ CONTROL AUTOMATICALLY STARTS THE PROCESS SEQUENCE. FIG. 3-7 THE PLATE LIFTER (SEE FIG. 3-7) MOVES OVER THE PRINTING PLATE MAGAZINE. IF SLIP SHEET LIES ON THE UPPERMOST PRINTING PLATES, IT IS FIRST GRIPPED BY A CONTRAST-LIGHT-SENSOR INSTALLED ON THE PLATE LIFTER. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE PAPER REMOVAL DEVICE (SEE FIG. 3-8) SWINGS TO THE SLIP SHEET AND CLAMPS THE PAPER USING T WO GRIPPERS. THEREAFTER, THE PAPER REMOVAL DEVICE SWINGS BACK TO THE PAPER BASKET WHERE THE PAPER IS FOLDED ONCE. ARRIVED THERE, THE GRIPPERS DROP THE PAPER INTO THE PAPER BASKET THAT STANDS EXTERNALLY AT THE LOADER. ONCE THE PRINTING PLATE IS POSITIONED (AS AN OPTION, IT IS ALSO POSSIBLE THAT T WO PRINTING PLATES ARE INSTALLED), THE BLOW AIR IN THE PUNCHED-HOLED VACUUM PLATE IS TURNED OFF. THE PRINTING PLATES ARE NOW SUCKED IN AND THUS SECURED AGAINST SHIFTING. AT THE SAME TIME, THE FEATHER KEYS ARE DRAWN IN. THE PLATE LIFTER NOW TRAVERSES UPWARDS AGAIN, MOVES TO THE RIGHT AND STOPS ABOVE THE PLATE MAGAZINE TO RECEIVE NEW PRINTING PLATES. IN PARALLEL, THE EXPOSURE PROCESS STARTS. THE PLATES ARE EXPOSED FROM THE LEFT TO THE RIGHT. 3.4 PLATE UNLOADER (OPTIONAL) WHEN THE EXPOSURE IS COMPLETED, THE Y AXIS MOVES INTO THE UNLOADING POSITION ABOVE THE PRINTING PLATES. THE GENERAL CLEANING WORK SHOULD BE PERFORMED ONCE A WEEK. TO CLEAN THE COMPUTER (KEYBOARD, MONITOR AND SCANNER), USE SPECIAL CLEANING AGENTS WHICH ARE SUITABLE FOR EDP EQUIPMENT. FOR STUBBORN CONTAMINATION, A MILD ALL-PURPOSE CLEANING AGENT CAN BE USED. 5.3 CHECKING THE COMPRESSED AIR SUPPLY (OPTIONAL) TO ENSURE TROUBLEFREE OPERATION OF YOUR UV-SET TER, THE OPERATING PRESSURE OF THE COMPRESSED AIR MUST BE 6 BAR FOR AUTOMATIC OPERATION, AND THE OPERATING PRESSURE OF THE BLOW AIR FOR THE VACUUM PUNCHEDHOLE PLATE 0.2 BAR. BEFORE STARTING WORK, CHECK THE REQUIRED OPERATING PRESSURE OF THE COMPRESSED AIR. IF THE SPECIFIED VALUES ARE NOT CORRECT, PRESS THE SET TING KNOB ON THE SERVICE UNIT DOWN AND TURN IT CLOCKWISE TO INCREASE THE PRESSURE OR COUNTERCLOCKWISE TO REDUCE THE PRESSURE. WHEN DOING SO, OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING: • ENVIRONMENTAL COMPATIBILITY • TIGHT SEALING OF THE SYSTEM (PUMP, HOSES AND CONNECTIONS) • FILLING VOLUME OF THE PUMP 5.6 CHECK THE FILTER MAT OF THE RIEDEL COOLER CHECK THE FILTER MAT FOR CONTAMINATION AND DAMAGE AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH AND REPLACE IT AS NECESSARY (SEE COOLER OPERATOR‘S GUIDE). 5.7 CHECKING THE SILENCER OF THE SIDE-CHANNEL COMPRESSOR THE SILENCER ON THE PRESSURE CONTROL VALVE OF THE SIDE-CHANNEL COMPRESSOR MUST BE CHECKED FOR CONTAMINATION EVERY 8 MONTHS OR EVERY 2,000 OPERATING HOURS. TO DO SO, REMOVE AND REINSTALL THE SILENCER AFTER YOU HAVE REMOVED ANY CONTAMINATION. 5.8 LUBRICATION THE GUIDES OF THE UV-SETTER MUST BE LUBRICATED AT REGULAR INTERVALS AS PER LUBRICATION DIAGRAM. TO THIS END, A GREASE GUN WITH SPECIAL LUBRICATING GREASE AND APPROPRIATE MOUTH PIECES ARE INCLUDED IN THE UV-SET TER™ PACK AS ACCESSORIES. DEPENDING ON THE MACHINE TYPE, A SMALL GREASE GUN IS ADDITIONALLY INCLUDED IN THE SCOPE OF SUPPLY (SEE FIG. 5-5 ON PAGE 60). USE EXCLUSIVELY THIS GREASE GUN(S) WITH THE GREASE THEREIN. LUBRICATING GREASE FOR TOPPING UP THE GREASE GUN(S) CAN BE ORDERED FROM PUNCH GRAPHIX PREPRESS GERMANY GMBH AND ITS SERVICE PARTNERS. THE FILTER MATS MUST BE CHECKED FOR CONTAMINATION AT REGULAR INTERVALS TO ENSURE SUFFICIENT AIR SUPPLY. TO PREVENT THE UV-SET TER FROM SET TING DOWN TO THE BASE FRAME, FASTEN THE SUPPLIED LEVELING FEET (SEE “MOUNTING THE LEVELING FEET”). 2.2.6 MOUNTING THE LEVELING FEET TO MOUNT THE PREASSEMBLED LEVELING FEET, USE THE DRILL HOLES OF THE BOLTS PREVIOUSLY USED TO FIX THE UVSET TER TO THE TRANSPORT PALLET. TRANSPORTING THE UV-SET TER™ AFTER REMOVING THE TRANSPORT BRACKETS, THERE ARE T WO ALTERNATIVES FOR TRANSPORTING THE UV-SET TER™ TO ITS FINAL PLACE OF INSTALLATION: • TRANSPORT BY CRANE (SEE POINT 2.3.1 ON PAGE 12) • TRANSPORT BY FORK-LIFT TRUCK (SEE POINT 2.3.2 ON PAGE 16) 2.3.1 TRANSPORT USING A CRANE SYSTEM TRANSPORTING THE UV-SET TER TO TRANSPORT THE UV-SET TER AND THE ASSOCIATED (OPTIONAL) LOADER USING A CRANE, YOU WILL NEED A LIFTING BEAM. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO LIFT THE UV-SET TER AND THE LOADER SUCH THAT BOTH ALWAYS REMAIN IN A HORIZONTAL POSITION WHEN LIFTED. TO LIFT THE UV-SETTER, YOU WILL NEED A TRANSPORT SET WHICH CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS: TO BE ABLE TO FIX THE TRANSPORT SET UNDER THE UV-SET TER™, MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS SUFFICIENT CLEARANCE BET WEEN THE BASE FRAME OF THE UV-SET TER AND THE FLOOR. IF THIS IS NOT THE CASE, RAISE THE HEIGHT BY ADJUSTING THE LEVELING FEET (SEE SECTION „LEVELING THE UV-SET TER“) FIRST, INSERT THE T WO U BEAMS UNDER THE UV-SET TER. THE POSITION IS SHOWN ON FIG. 2-11. WHEN INSERTING THE TRANSPORT SET, ENSURE THAT THE LABELING „FRONT“ POINTS TO THE FRONT SIDE OF THE UV-SET TER. NOW FIX THE TRANSPORT SET TO THE UV-SET TER USING T WO BOLTS (M12) FOR EACH BEAM. TO THIS END, DRILL HOLES ARE PROVIDED BOTH IN THE UV-SET TER AND IN THE BEAMS. THE DRILL HOLES APPLICABLE FOR YOUR PARTICULAR UVSET TER ARE INDICATED IN THE TABLE IN FIG. 2-10. IN ADDITION TO THE UV-SETTER SERIES, THE APPROPRIATE MACHINE NUMBER SHOULD ALSO BE OBSERVED. TO ENABLE THE BOLTS TO BE FIT TED, A NUT IS WELDED BENEATH THE APPROPRIATE DRILL HOLES OF THE BEAM. AFTER YOU HAVE SECURED THE BEAMS AGAINST SLIPPING, USE THE EYEBOLTS AT THE END OF THE BEAMS TO FIX THE LIFTING BELTS (SEE FIG. 2-12). THEN THE UV-SET TER MAY BE LIFTED CAREFULLY. OBSERVE ITS CENTER OF GRAVITY AND MAKE SURE THAT THE UV-SET TER IS LIFTED HORIZONTALLY. ADJUST THE CROSSBEAM SUCH THAT THE LOAD SUSPENSION POINT FOR THE CRANE 2.3.2 TRANSPORT WITH A FORK-LIFT TRUCK LIFTING POINTS ON THE BASE FRAME THE LIFTING POINTS FOR TRANSPORT USING A FORK-LIFT TRUCK ARE TO BE FOUND ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE UV-SET TER. TO OBTAIN ACCESS, IT IS IMPERATIVE TO REMOVE THE LOWER FRONT PANELING PLATE OF THE UV-SET TER IF THIS HAS NOT YET BEEN DONE. TRANSPORT OF UV-SET TER™ WITH A FORK-LIFT TRUCK REMOVE RISK OF DAMAGE TO THE UV-SET TER WHEN REACHING WITH THE FORKS OF THE FORK LIFT TRUCK UNDER THE UV-SET TER! THE LOWER PANELING PLATE CAN BE DAMAGED. • REMOVE THE PANELING PLATES BEFORE REACHING WITH THE FORKS OF THE FORK LIFT TRUCK UNDER THE UV-SET TER. UNEVEN LOAD DISTRIBUTION WHEN LIFTING! DEFORMATION OF THE BASE FRAME • MAKE SURE THAT THE FORK CLEARANCE IS AT LEAST 1,200 MM. • DO NOT USE LIFTING HOIST THAT DO NOT PROVIDE THIS FORK CLEARANCE. • INSERT THE FORKS AT LEAST 1,300 MM UNDER THE UV-SET TER. 2.4 DESIGN OF THE UV-SET TER THE UV-SET TER™ POSSESSES PANELING PARTS WHICH MUST BE REMOVED FOR COMMISSIONING AND SERVICE / MAINTENANCE WORK. IF ANY PANELING PARTS ARE SECURED WITH A LOCK, YOU WILL NEED A SPECIAL KEY FOR OPENING (SEE FIG. 2-14), WHICH IS INCLUDED IN THE SCOPE OF SUPPLY. OVERVIEW OF PANELING PARTS OF THE UV-SET TER RIGHT-SIDE VENTILATION FLAP LEFT-SIDE VENTILATION FLAP COVER FRONT COVER HATCH REAR-SIDE VENTILATION FLAP RIGHT-SIDE COVER HATCH LEFT-SIDE COVER HATCH COOLER AND VOLTAGE CONNECTIONS UV-SETTERS WITH LOADER OR UNLOADER DO NOT POSSESS THE COVERS ON THE RIGHT-HAND SIDE. 2.5 PREPARATIONS FOR COMMISSIONING BEFORE THE UV-SET TER™ CAN BE COMMISSIONED AFTER TRANSPORTATION TO ITS FINAL PLACE OF INSTALLATION, IT IS NECESSARY FIRSTLY TO REMOVE THE TRANSPORT FIXINGS AND SECONDLY TO LEVEL THE UV-SET TER™ IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LOCAL CONDITIONS. 2.5.1 REMOVING THE TRANSPORT FIXINGS ALL MOVING PARTS OF THE UV-SET TER™ ARE PROTECTED DURING TRANSPORT BY WAY OF APPROPRIATE TRANSPORT FIXINGS. THE TRANSPORT FIXINGS SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED UNTIL THE UV-SET TER™ HAS REACHED ITS FINAL PLACE OF INSTALLATION. THE TRANSPORT FIXINGS COMPRISE: • FIXINGS FOR THE CAST PLATE • FIXINGS FOR THE X-Y AXIS SYSTEM AND • FIXINGS FOR THE Y-Z AXIS SYSTEM LEVELING THE UV-SET TER SPIRIT LEVEL ON THE VACUUM PUNCHED-HOLE PLATE SEQUENCE OF ADJUSTMENT OF THE BASE FEET SEQUENCE: FIRST PLACE AN ENGINEERING SPIRIT LEVEL ON THE VACUUM PUNCHED-HOLE PLATE. USE AN EXTENSION TO TURN THE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT NUT UNTIL THE UV-SET TER IS STANDING HORIZONTALLY LEVEL (X-Y DIRECTION, SEE FIG. 2-23). PERFORM THE STEPS IN THE GIVEN SEQUENCE. 2.5.2 INSTALLING THE PERIPHERAL EQUIPMENT AFTER REMOVING THE TRANSPORT FIXINGS AND LEVELING THE UV-SET TER™, THE NEXT STEP IS TO CONNECT THE SUPPLIED PERIPHERAL EQUIPMENT. THIS EQUIPMENT INCLUDES THE KEYBOARD, MOUSE, MONITOR AND SCANNER. AN ADDITIONAL EXTERNAL UNIT IS THE COOLING UNIT. THE UV-SET TER™ IS CONTROLLED VIA THE CONTROL PC LOCATED IN THE BASE FRAME. AFTER THE UV-SET TER™ HAS BEEN SET UP, THE MOUNTINGS FOR EXTERNAL COMPONENTS SUCH AS KEYBOARD, MONITOR AND SCANNER MUST BE FIXED TO THE HOUSING. FIG. 2-25 INDICATES THE ARRANGEMENT OF THE COMPONENTS AND THEIR CORRESPONDING MOUNTING ON THE UV-SET TER™. 2.5.3 CONNECTING THE POWER SUPPLY CONNECT THE UV-SET TER TO THE MAINS POWER SUPPLY AND ESTABLISH THE LINK TO THE SITE DATA NETWORK WITH THE CORRESPONDING NETWORK CABLE. ALWAYS OBSERVE THE SUPPLIED „ELECTRICAL DOCUMENTATION“. WHERE A TRANSFORMER IS USED TO TRANSFORM THE LOCAL VOLTAGE TO 400 V, IT IS NECESSARY TO CHECK THE SECONDARY VOLTAGE. IT IS PART OF THE UV-SET TER™ AND IS DELIVERED ON A SEPARATE PALLET. 2.6.1 REMOVING THE PACKAGING OF THE LOADER THE LOADER CONSISTS OF THREE MAIN COMPONENTS. THESE ARE: • THE FRAME WITH THE PLATE LIFTER • THE PLATE TROLLEY • THE PAPER TROLLEY DURING TRANSPORT, THESE PARTS ARE ON A PALLET AND ARE PACKED IN A PROTECTIVE FOIL (FIG. 2-34). FIRST REMOVE THIS PROTECTIVE FOIL. THE EXTERNAL COOLER, AS WELL AS THE CONNECTING HOSES AND THE CANISTER WITH THE COOLANT, ARE SECURED AGAINST SLIPPING WITH WOODEN BOARDS SCREWED TO THE PALLET. FURTHERMORE, THESE PARTS ARE SECURED BY A PACKING BELT SCREWED ON THE BOT TOM. THE PLATE LIFTER IS SECURED BY T WO PACKING BELTS. CUT ALL PACKING BELTS AND REMOVE THE WOODEN BOARDS USING A CORDLESS POWER SCREW DRIVER. NOW YOU CAN REMOVE THE COMPONENTS AND THE PARTS. 2.6.2 REMOVING THE PLATE TROLLEY TO BE ABLE TO TRANSPORT THE LOADER TO ITS FINAL PLACE OF DESTINATION, IT IS IMPERATIVE TO USE A FORK-LIFT TRUCK, A LIFTING TROLLEY OR A CRANE. TO DO SO, FIRST REMOVE THE PLATE TROLLEY. TO THIS END, FIRST REMOVE THE TRANSPORT FIXINGS. THE PLATE TROLLEY IS BOLTED TO T WO SQUARED TIMBERS WHICH, IN TURN, ARE FIXED TO THE PALLET USING SCREWS. REMOVE ALL SECURING BOLTS (SEE FIG. 2-35). FIG. 2-35 WHEN THE LOADER IS DELIVERED, THE PLATE LIFTER IS LOWERED ON THE PLATE TROLLEY. THE PLATE TROLLEY POSSESSES SQUARE ANGLES FOR THE PRINTING PLATES, WHICH GRIP THROUGH CUTOUTS INTO THE PLATE LIFTER. TO BE ABLE TO PULL OFF THE PLATE LIFTER, YOU MUST LIFT THE PLATE LIFTER MANUALLY. THE PLATE LIFTER POSSESSES A PNEUMATICALLY ACTUATED LIMIT STOP. THIS MUST BE PUSHED TO THE RIGHT. AT THE SAME TIME, THE PLATE LIFTER MUST BE LIFTED ACROSS THIS LIMIT STOP. AFTER RELEASING THE STOP, THE PLATE LIFTER WILL REMAIN IN A POSITION WHICH RELEASES THE SQUARE ANGLES OF THE PLATE TROLLEY. THE PAPER TROLLEY CONTAINS FURTHER ACCESSORIES REQUIRED FOR THE INSTALLATION OF UV-SETTER™ AND LOADER, AS WELL AS FOR SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE (SEE POINT 2.6.5 ON PAGE 46). THESE ACCESSORIES MAY BE ROLLED TO THE SITE OF INSTALLATION OF THE UV-SETTER™ IN THE TRANSPORT TROLLEY. 2.6.3 TRANSPORTING THE LOADER AFTER YOU HAVE REMOVED THE PAPER AND THE PLATE TROLLEYS, YOU CAN TRANSPORT THE LOADER. THE LOADER IS FASTENED ON THE PALLET USING FOUR BOLTS. REMOVE THESE BOLTS FIRST. TO LIFT THE LOADER, USE A FORK LIFT TRUCK OR A CRANE. TRANSPORT USING A CRANE IS ONLY ALLOWED BY USING A CRANE BEAM. UV-SET TER™ AFTER IT HAS BEEN SET DOWN BY THE FORK LIFT TRUCK. WITH THE HYDRAULIC LIFTING TROLLEY, THE LOADER CAN BE BROUGHT TO ITS FINAL POSITION. THE COLLECTING CONTAINER MUST PROVIDE A CAPACITY OF AT LEAST 35 LITERS. DISPOSE OF THE COOLANT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RELEVANT LOCAL

STANDARDS AND REGULATIONS (SEE SAFETY DATA SHEET). HOW TO PROCEED WITH THE RIEDEL COOLER • REMOVE THE SIDE PANELS OF THE COOLER. TO THIS END, REMOVE THE BOLTS MARKED IN FIG. 3-2. FIG. 3-1 • ACCESS TO THE HOSE OF THE FILLING LEVEL INDICATOR CAN BE GAINED FROM THE RIGHT. THIS HOSE ALSO SERVES FOR DRAINING THE COOLANT. NOTE THAT ALL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS ON THE UV-SET TER™ (WITH THE EXCEPTIONS OF MAINS PLUG CONNECTORS) MUST ONLY BE DISCONNECTED AND REINSTALLED BY CORRESPONDINGLY AUTHORIZED PERSONS! • DISCONNECT THE PERIPHERAL EQUIPMENT (LCD MONITOR, SCANNER, KEYBOARD AND MOUSE, AND NET WORK CABLING) FROM THE CONTROL PC. REMOVE THE PERIPHERALS AND PACK THEM IN THEIR ORIGINAL BOXES. • REMOVE THE KEYBOARD AND SCANNER SHELVES AND THE MONITOR BRACKETS AND WRAP THEM IN CUSHIONING FOIL. THE KEYBOARD SUPPORT CAN BE DEMOUNTED TOGETHER WITH ITS BRACKET BY LOOSENING THE FIXING SCREWS FROM INSIDE THE UV-SET TER™. 3.3 FIXING THE SHIPPING BRACES TO FIX THE MOVING COMPONENTS OF THE UV-SET TER DURING TRANSPORT, AND THUS TO PROTECT THEM FROM DAMAGE, APPROPRIATE SHIPPING BRACES MUST BE INSTALLED. SECURING THE CAST IRON PLATE - EXCEPTION: SERIES 6 UV-SET TERS FIX FOUR BRACKETS AS SHIPPING BRACES FOR THE CAST IRON PLATE - T WO ON THE REAR SIDE AND T WO ON THE FRONT SIDE OF THE CAST PLATE. TO INSTALL THE SHIPPING BRACES ON THE REAR SIDE, LOOSEN THE 4 HEXAGON BOLTS OF THE T WO BRACKETS. THE BOLTS EACH POSSESS A HOLE IN THE BOLT HEAD FOR ADDITIONAL SECURING (SEE FIG. 3-5). TO MOUNT THE FRONT BRACKETS, OPEN THE COVER OF THE UV-SET TER; YOU OBTAIN ACCESS TO THE FIXING POINTS FROM INSIDE. MOUNTING A SHIPPING BRACE ON SERIES 6 UV-SET TERS AS SHOWN IN THE DIAGRAM BELOW (FIG. 3-4), THE SHIPPING BRACES FOR THE CAST IRON PLATE OF THE SERIES 6 UVSET TERS ARE INSTALLED IN DIFFERENT POSITIONS. ACCESS TO THE HOLES FOR FIXING THE MARKED SHIPPING BRACE ON THE REAR LEFT IS ONLY POSSIBLE THROUGH THE UNLOADER. TO THIS END, REMOVE THE ACRYLIC GLASS COVER. THEN YOU CAN MOUNT AND SECURE THE SHIPPING BRACE THROUGH THE UNLOADER USING THE APPROPRIATE ELEMENTS, AS DESCRIBED ABOVE (SEE FIG. 3-4). SUBSEQUENTLY, REPLACE THE ACRYLIC GLASS COVER. TO AVOID DAMAGE, FIX ALL SHIPPING BRACES AS SHOWN IN FIG. 3-4 AND FIG. 3-5. TRANSPORT FIXING FOR THE Y-Z AXIS SYSTEM THIS TRANSPORT FIXING PREVENTS THE EXPOSURE HEAD FROM MOVING ALONG THE Y AND Z DIRECTIONS (VERTICAL MOVEMENTS). USE A WOOD BORER (DIAMETER 13 - 14 MM) TO BORE THROUGH THE DRILL HOLES OF THE LOADER INTO THE PALLET. THESE FASTENING HOLES IN THE FRAME OF THE LOADER CORRESPOND TO THOSE WHICH SERVE TO HOLD THE BASE FEET. AFTER YOU HAVE MADE ALL FOUR HOLES, YOU CAN SCREW THE LOADER TO THE PALLET (SEE FIG. 3-25). 3.5.4 SET TING DOWN AND SECURING PLATE TROLLEY AFTER SECURING THE LOADER ON THE PALLET, YOU CAN SET DOWN THE PLATE TROLLEY. TO THIS END, OPEN THE DOOR OF THE LOADER. THE PLATE TROLLEY IS HELD BY WAY OF PERMANENT SOLENOIDS. TO BE ABLE TO SET DOWN THE PLATE TROLLEY, THE PLATE LIFTER MUST BE LIFTED. THIS IS IMPERATIVE SINCE GUIDING ANGLES FOR THE PRINTING PLATES ARE INSTALLED ON THE PLATE TROLLEY AND GRIP THROUGH CUTOUTS IN THE PLATE LIFTER. THE PLATE LIFTER POSSESSES A PNEUMATICALLY ACTUATED LIMIT STOP WHICH MUST BE UNLOCKED MANUALLY. PUSH THE LIMIT STOP TO THE RIGHT AND THEN LIFT THE PLATE LIFTER OVER THIS LIMIT STOP. NOW RELEASE THE LIMIT STOP. THE PLATE LIFTER WILL REMAIN FIXED IN A POSITION IN WHICH THE PLATE LIFTER CAN BE SET DOWN (SEE FIG. 3-26). NOW THE TROLLEY LOCK MUST BE PUSHED UPWARDS. Quando si realizza un meccanismo così

complesso come quello che fa muovere un

orologio, non c’è spazio per i compromessi,

per quanto piccoli possano essere i

componenti.

Solo allora le parti vengono unite per

raggiungere la precisione che è essenziale

non solo per visualizzare il tempo ma per

molto altro!

Stampe artistiche? Retino FM? Anche il

considerevolmente pesante UV-Setter crea

lavori con tolleranza micrometrica. Il suo

specchietto DMD, con una superficie di 2

cm2, ospita 800.000 specchietti regolabili

autonomamente.

Come risultato, possono essere raggiunte

facilmente frequenze di retinature oltre i

200 lpi. I punti quadrati producono misure

che vanno da 16 a 28 µm, e sono solo netti

quadrati dei pixels dell’immagine stessa.

Il tempo che possiamo leggere su uno

strumento del calibro di quelli prodotti da

Nomos Glashutte non è

un’approssimazione, ma è un lavoro tanto

accurato quanto quello di un uomo. Un

sistema sofisticato e di altissima precisione

di ingranaggi resistenti e di pietre portanti,

guidate da una molla a spirale, che funziona

coscienziosamente per giorni e giorni.

Un orologio di qualità non si rompe mai e

normalmente dura una vita. Dovremmo

essere in grado di aspettarci lo stesso

investendo in un Platesetter. Non ultimo per

interesse dei costi di rendimento.

Gli UV Setter della Basys Print hanno un

sistema di esposizione indipendente che

consente di continuare ad utilizzare le lastre

di stampa convenzionali UV-sensitive.

Probabilmente il più grande beneficio è che

Integrazione di un UV-Setter all’interno di un work�ow pre-esistente.

Quando un orologio viene caricato, più di

una dozzina di ingranaggi con cuscinetti che

comprendono una media di 26 rubini,

girano. Sono parte integrante di un sistema

tenuto insieme da innumerevoli giri di vite,

ma la manipolazione è tuttavia molto

semplice per l’utente.

Lo stesso accade per un UV-Setter. Un

segnale d’inizio è tutto ciò che occorre per

dare il via alla fase di esposizione. La luce è

raggruppata, diretta con estrema precisione

dagli specchietti e posizionata in modo netto

sopra la lastra dai servomotori dell’unità di

esposizione.

L’intero processo di esposizione della lastra

da stampa è semplice grazie alle ben

conosciute e collaudate tecnologie e alla

chimica, che è sempre stata e sempre rimarrà

il metodo più ecologico per sviluppare lastre.

Indipendentemente dal fatto che tu sia

nuovo alla tecnologia UV-Ctp o che stia

cambiando da un'altra soluzione, gli

UV-Setter si mostrano come sistemi

estremamente malleabili. Possono infatti

sfruttare le soluzioni già esistenti o funziona-

re come sistemi a se stanti. Grazie alla sua

compatibilità con il TIFF 1-bit, puo’essere

localizzato dietro ogni RIP, mentre la

punzonatrice in linea provvede alla compati-

bilità con tutti i sistemi lastre.

Il super cell screening è un metodo per incrementare il numero di scale di grigio in un’immagine.

Le cosiddette super celle comprimono un certo numero di punti individuali, in base alla

risoluzione. All’interno di ogni super cella, i punti costituenti sono prodotti con un numero

variabile di punti di esposizione a modulazione di frequenza (nel diagramma sono rappresentati

con pixels rosso scuro). In questo modo è possibile aumentare la scala di grigi in una super cellula

che non potrebbe mai raggiungerla con lo stesso numero di punti (fino a 4096 scale di grigio).

L’UV-Setter funziona nel range di lunghezza

d’onda 360 nm. In questo modo è possibile

utilizzare praticamente ogni lastra da

stampa offset tradizionale. Queste lastre

sono disponibili dappertutto, e sono state

testate per una ufficiale approvazione.

Le lastre tradizionali mostrano

un’incomparabile processo e stabilità di

produzione. Possono essere trattate anche

in luce ambiente, sono semplici da

immagazzinare e rimangono insensibili ai

cambiamenti climatici.

Se si è nuovi del mondo UV-Ctp, si

puo’semplicemente continuare ad utilizzare

le proprie lastre preferite. Il cambio da un

sistema Ctp diverso che usa lastre termiche,

violet o fotopolimeriche è ugualmente

semplice, e non c’è generalmente bisogno

di modificare l’esistente Flusso di lavoro.

I vostri stampatori saranno strabiliati dal

processo e dalla stabilità produttiva delle

lastre tradizionali.

Grazie all’ottimo equilibrio tra acqua ed

inchiostro mantenuto sulla lastra, gli

utilizzatori godono di una netta riproduzio-

ne dei parametri dell’immagine. Le lastre

tradizionali negative non cotte permettono

già una tiratura di 400.000 copie o più,

mentre le lastre positive cotte sono sempre

in grado di una tiratura di 1.500.000 copie,

ciò dipende anche dal sub-strato di stampa

usato.

Attraverso l’uso dello sviluppo chimico

debolmente alcalino, stiamo supportando

le richieste di metodi di produzione

ecologici. Ed infine ma non da ultimo, i

nostri costi di smaltimento sono mantenuti
