OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE 9945 BATTERY POWERED MODEL

BATTERIES1.Remove battery cover from trimmer by pushing in and back on the

plastic door in the direction of the arrow.2.Insert three AA batteries as indicated by the moulded outline in trimmer,

as follows:

a.Slip battery through loop in ribbon and place battery into unit as indicated. Fig. A.b.Place second battery in trimmer so it lies over top of extended ribbon. Fig. B.c.Fold ribbon so that when the third battery is inserted, it will also lie over top of extended ribbon. Fig. C.

3.Replace battery cover to its original position.4.Move switch to the “ON” position to use.5.To maximise battery life, trimmer should be shut “OFF” immediately after

using.6.When finished, replace the blade guard and store the trimmer in the

“holds all” storage base provided. This also holds your pre shave brush, cleaning brush and oil.

removing batteries one at a time.

TROUBLESHOOTINGIf your trimmer fails to operate when switched “ON”, check your batteries to see if they are properly installed. Positive end (centre post) should be located as shown in battery housing. Make sure the switch is in the “ON” position and check to be sure blades are free to move. If it still does not operate, your batteries have probably exhausted their useful life. To maximise battery life, replace all three AA batteries at the same time.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR 9947 RECHARGEABLE MODEL

RECHARGING1.When using your new Wahl “What A Shaver” for the first time, we

recommend that you leave it to charge overnight before first use.2.This trimmer is designed for household use only.3.Remove the trimmer, recharging transformer, “holds all” storage base

and accessories from the packing material.4.Plug the recharging transformer into a convenient electrical outlet at the

correct voltage.5.Connect the transformer to the trimmer. BE SURE THE TRIMMER IS IN

THE “OFF” POSITION WHEN CHARGING. Place trimmer in stand so the nameplate faces forward (there is a guide molded into the stand to assure proper “seating” of the trimmer).

6.NiMH battery life capacity may be improved by letting the trimmer run down until the motor stops. Immediately shut the switch “OFF” and recharge fully. For best results, this should be repeated once per month.

TROUBLESHOOTINGIf your rechargeable WHAT A SHAVER does not seem to take a charge, check the following before returning your kit for repair:-1.Check outlet current by plugging in another appliance.2.Make sure the plug is not connected to a light switch which turns off the

9

Battery/Rechargeable Trimmerpower when the lights are turned off.3.Be sure that the trimmer is properly connected to the recharging transformer and that all connections are secure with the switch on the trimmer turned to the “OFF” position4.When connecting the charger cord to the unit, be certain the groove on the end of the cord is facing down. This will then fit over the raised notch in the opening around the unit’s charger pins.5.If your electricity is connected to a master power switch, we would suggest the trimmer be disconnected from the charger when the master switch is off, to prevent discharging of the battery.6.If the trimmer does not run and it is completely charged, turn “ON” and pinch or push the blades manually.

CARING FOR YOUR “WHAT A SHAVER”The blades are the single most important part of this trimmer. Keep hair and abrasive particles from collecting between the blades. Blades do not only become dulled from cutting hair, they are dulled by the abrasive particles in the hair dirt, sand etc. If abrasive particles are picked up and carried between the blades, the particles tend to hold the blades apart and cause pulling instead of cutting.OILING BLADESFor every use, put a drop of Wahl Clipper Oil on the blades only when necessary. Motor bearings are permanently lubricated do not attempt to oil. Store oil packet in an upright position.

Page 10: Battery/Rechargeable Trimmer - Wahl What a...Battery/Rechargeable Trimmer 7.To replace batteries complete Step 1 and pull firmly on the ribbon, removing batteries one at a time. TROUBLESHOOTING

10

Battery/Rechargeable TrimmerDO NOT OVER OILThis trimmer requires very little oil. When necessary to oil, turn the trimmer “ON”, hold the unit with the blades facing DOWN, and squeeze one drop of oil onto the blades. Wipe off excess liquid/oil with a soft cloth. Excessive oiling or application of liquids will cause damage if allowed to seep back into motor while in storage base.

REPLACING BLADETrimmer blades have precisely-hardened, ground and lapped cutting teeth. Blades should be handled carefully and never bumped. To keep blades sharp, cut only clean hair and avoid cutting into dirt or abrasive particles. To remove blades for replacement, loosen and remove two screws on the bottom blade. Replace same and tighten.

New replacement blades are available from your local Wahl Stockist.

NOW YOU CAN KEEP ON SHAVING WHILE CLEANING UP INGROWN WHISKERS.Men with coarse facial hair and others with very curly facial hair, can experience problems with shaving, specifically, ingrown whiskers. Their whiskers curl back towards the skin and grow in many different directions. Electric razors can not pick them up through their slotted or mesh heads, and safety razors slice them off at a sharp angle. Either way, the stubble is left in an ideal condition to cause ingrown hair problems. Continued shaving over the bumps and irritated skin, of course, makes the condition worse. But you do not have to stop shaving altogether. With a WHAT A SHAVER you can maintain a neat, shaved appearance while getting help with ingrown whiskers. Its open-tooth comb action picks up and straightens curly whiskers, clipping them off evenly.

It is very important that you use a WHAT A SHAVER using the proper method. If used properly it offers a solution to your shaving problem.

11

Battery/Rechargeable TrimmerTRIMMING YOUR BEARDWASH UP1.Make sure your hands and fingernails are scrubbed clean as possible

before touching your face. Irritated skin is easily infected by germs.2.Wash and dry your face thoroughly to unclog pores and whisker follicles.

Use a rough towel to help remove dead skin. Also consider using an antiseptic lotion

BRUSH UP3.Brush your beard thoroughly every day with a good scrubbing action.

This is important because it frees ingrown whiskers and moves the rest around so they do not take hold and start growing in. Use the special pre-shave brush provided or any other small, stiff-bristle brush that can be sanitized (a toothbrush is fine). Keep the brush clean.

4.Brush your face as often as possible to start training your beard to grow in one direction. This goes along way to ensuring a clean, close shave without skin irritation (you may even want to stop shaving all together long enough to establish a brushing pattern). Most people can expect good results following these brushing strokes:• Brush down from each ear, across the cheek and along the jawbone towards the chin.• Brush away from the point of the chin, on each side, back along the lines just under the jawbone. • Brush up from the lower hairline, all around the neck, up to the lines of the previous stroke. • Brush from the lower lip down towards the chin.• Brush down from the nose to the upper lip.

5.Shave with WHAT A SHAVER following the SAME STROKES and going in the SAME DIRECTION you brushed. Stretch a selection of skin with the fingers of one hand, while holding the shaver blade flat against the face with the other hand. Push it forward with slight pressure in a stroking action across the skin. You may want to go over the same area several times. Just be sure you always shave in the same direction each time.

12

Battery/Rechargeable Trimmer6. Continue this programme as long as ingrown hairs and bumps are a

problem. Later, you may wish to switch back to a razor-close shaving method. But return to the WHAT A SHAVER at the first sign of the problem coming back, and never stop brushing.

TRIMMING YOUR HAIRYou can use it to keep hairstyles trimmed-shaping hairlines, defining parts and trimming around neck and ears. You can use it to style hair, too, if you wish. To trim or style hair, first shampoo and dry hair thoroughly, fluff out evenly. Then holding the “What a Shaver!” with toothed edge pointed down, trim off a little a time, carefully. To trim around the neck, ears and sideburns hold the “What a Shaver!” flat against the skin and move it along the hairline.
