Bay County Arts & Culture News September—December, 2018

New What’s Next Member: Historic Masonic Temple

We are not new to Bay City! Designed by Pratt and Koeppe and built in 1893, the Historic Masonic Temple served numerous Masonic organizations until 2005 when it was purchased by Bay Arts Council. In 2011, the Friends of the Historic Masonic Temple was formed and granted its 501(c)3 designation. In 2017, the Friends became the owner of the building. Through the efforts of the Friends, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a building of significance to the State of Michigan. We are making improvements to the building and increasing arts programming in music, theater, and arts education. Our goal is to become a Community School for the Arts. Recently, we hosted a successful Discover Magic Camp teaching magic performance to 21 students. In May, we held the first Mitten State Music Revival in partnership with Bay City Morning and Noon Rotary Clubs. Each month we show a Midnight Monster movie. In October, the entire building turns into the Haunted Temple through the efforts of local junior and senior high students. This Fall we'll host several independent theater productions, musical events, and Holiday programs. Please join us in our historic building! Find out more at hmtbc.org
