After BBA#12 had confirmed their aptitude toeveryone by successfully holding BBA’s first camp,“BBA’s 2nd camp: Return to the camp” was anevidential proof assuring that there was somethingexcellent up BBA#13’s sleeves too. With a lot of workand cooperation, we finally and perfectly carried itout with our own hands.

On Dec 20th 2005-Jan 2nd, 2006, about 60 BBAstudents, consisting of BBA#11 to BBA#14 and 2exchange students from the Faculty of Art, spent agreat time together at Mae Chan, Chiang Rai on avoluntary camp activity. The main purpose of this14-day-long camp is to build a young children center. This activity gave us an opportunity to experience newthings which we cannot find in our ordinary life style inthis big city, and more importantly we went theretogether to get to know each other in different aspects

that a university life willnever let us see. In addition,we met P’Wan who is anofficer of Krajokngao foun-dation. He helped us withour work and accommo-dation. He has dedicatedhimself to this kind ofcharitable works. Thanksto P’Wan, for being sohelpful and generous tous.

On the first day, westarted our journey at Thammasat Tha Prachan at7.00 p.m. sharp and then took an extremely long...long...ride going to our destination. It took exact 12hours to get there. We had heard that Chiang Rai duringthat time of every year is terribly cold. However, it wasmuch worse than we had imagined.

In order to totally accomplish our goals, we hadto organize every thing in this camp efficiently. Wedivided our members into 10 groups of six people

The BBA International Program joined in theEducational Fair which was held by the Commission onHigher Education, Ministry of Education. We visited theupcountry students, counselors and parents at Chiang MaiUniversity (Chiang Mai) Kasetsart University (Bangkok),Khon Kaen University (Khon Kaen) during December 8th,2005-February 3rd, 2006. Moreover, we joined in theThailand International Education Exhibition 2006: TIEE2006 which was held by Department of Export Promotionat Queen Sirikit National Convention Center during February3rd-5th, 2006. Also, we will plan to join the EducationalFair at Nakornrashima and Ubolratchathani during July20th-August 19th, 2006.

The Young Researcher CompetitionThe Young Researcher Competition or “YRC”

organized by Thailand Securities Institute is a competitionconcerning security analysis, which aims to providestudents from junior and senior year to have opportunitiesto apply their knowledge from the classroom to the realapplication. For about seven months of participating in thischallenging activity, I, Sireethorn Sucharittanuwat (Ja-Oe)BBA#12, have gained both concrete knowledge andvaluable experiences ranging from the seminarsheld by professionals to the learning tours of famouslisted companies in Thailand. In YRC, you will also be ableto meet new friends with the same interest as you andthey are eager to learn and share! Thanks to what BBAprogram has taught me, my life is a lot easier in doing asecurity valuation, industry analysis and risk assessmentwhich are the important parts of my security report. Andthis finally led me to the first runner-up in this competition from about1,300 students nationally. It might seem hard, but once you have triedI believe it won’t be too hard for us–the BBA students. The competitionis fun, challenging and interesting!!!!

and rotated to do different jobs each day. These jobsconsisted of constructing, cooking, camp welfare andteaching. We learned how to build a two-storied housefrom wood, how to use the cement, and many otherthings we never learned before. We lived with thevillagers in their home and gathered to work duringthe daytime. We also cooked our own food. This madeus realize that some of our friends might grow up to bea good chief. Also, sometime we had dinners withthe villagers and had a chance to try many deliciouslocal foods. Every night, we enjoyed many activitiestogether, which made us know each other more andalso to relax from the exhausting hard-working day.Furthermore, each group had one day off. They wentto visit the vine-factory and the tea-field locatednear the village to see the vine and tea productionprocess. The scene there was very impressive andnaturally beautiful. On the night of December 31st, wehad a little New Year’s party together to countdownand celebrate. We departed from Chiang Rai on January1st, 2006 at 8.00 p.m. and again it took exact 12hours to reach Bangkok. We were all so exhausted

that we went directly back toour home.

Even though the young-children’s center wasnot completed, our hearts were totally fulfilled by thewarm welcome and the memorable experience weshared among us. 14 days maybe short but theimpressive time we had will never leave our hearts.

The first Saturday of January witnessed the annualStar Search Competition organized by the current membersof the case competition team. The amount of interest in thiscompetition has been augmenting significantly throughout theyears. This observation is especially apparent this year withmore than 20 teams applying for an opportunity to participatein this event. Unfortunately, the amount of teams had to bereduced to 16 groups each comprising of four members fromboth freshmen and sophomore years.

Ever since the initiation of the competition’s first round,it was evident that all teams exemplified outstanding analyticaland presentation skills as well as the ability to respond quickly and thoroughly to questions from the panel ofjudges. Judges of this competition consists of some of the case competition team’s most successful members(existing and graduated). After much deliberation from the judges the finalists were announced-a break evenbetween freshmen and sophomores, two teams from each class. First year’s finalists were “Playboy” and “Faith”while the second year’s finalist included “Tandoe” and “No Uniform No Service”.

Even when confronted with a pact audience, the four finalists’ presentations remained impressively solid. It was obviously a close call for the judges. However after a period of intense anticipation, the winners wereannounced. Second and first runners-up was “Faith” and “Playboy” respectively, while the ultimate winner of theStar Search Competition 2006 was “No Uniform No Service”. Prizes included gift vouchers from Tony Roma’s,Coffee Bean, and Hard Rock Café.

Next year’s Junior Varsity case competition team is expected to possess high potential and greatly contributeto the university’s reputation in the future. We strongly believe that next year’s Star Search applicants willdemonstrate even higher potential displayed this year.

The Student Union of the Swedish School ofEconomics and Business Administration had organizedthe nineteenth International Helsinki Days (IHD)during February 12-18, 2006. IHD is a one week longexperience with visits to leading Finnish globalcompanies and acquaintance with different culturesand Finnish student environment. This year, the theme“Sustainable development & Corporate responsibilityin a global environment” was used to reflect theawareness of environmental concern in a worldwidelevel. There were 35 participants from 19 countries allaround the world joining this terrific event. I wasfortunate to be selected as a delegate of ThammasatUniversity to represent our beloved university andcountry.

During the program, I had a chance to visit Lassila& Tikanoja PLC. (L&T) is the leading Finnish companyin environmental management and property and plantmaintenance. Iittala Group, the modern Scandinaviandesigned homeware producer, was another firm thatwe visited. We toured their factory, facilities andfascinating museum. KONE, which is the world’s fourthlargest elevator and escalator company, conducted apresentation about their company, corporate

“Love is color blind”, our theme for this year’s Valentine’s day. This year, same as previous years, balloons, flowers, cakes, cookies and dolls were being

delivered to almost everywhere in Thammasat University. Our mission startedon 9th-10th and 14th of February. We were very busy making banquets andballoons because the orders were coming all the time. Everybody had towork and compete against time, so we delegated the work and helped oneanother as much as we could. Of course there were some problems, such

as running out of roses and ribbons, but we could solve them at last. I, asone of the delivering team, have seen faces of people filled with smiles and

happiness when they received the gifts. It wasn’t only boyfriends sendingroses to girlfriends, but also friends and friends, students and teachers, etc. This

activity’s major purpose is not a profit but the happiness people’s are going to get. Verymuch thanks to P’Aor; BBA#11 and P’A; BBA#12, who devoted themselves to accomplishthis mission. And also, P’Tuang, Pup, Top (wish you get well soon!), Belle, Fon (Naporn),Peung, Ning, N’Patty and everyone whom I didn’t mention to, without you guys, we couldn’thave done this. Although “Love” is parallel, we can still walk side by side together foreover....

responsibility, and sustainable development.Lastly, Nokia, the world leader in mobilecommunications, also invited all participantsto visit its innovative corporation.

Both corporate visits and otheractivities provided to participants gave mea memorable overall experience in Finland.Helsinki sightseeing, for example, wasarranged by the IHD to help us discovermore about the capital city of Finland.

Cottage Experience providedme with the opportunity tolearn and experience the realtaste of being Finnish withthe original Finnish saunaand the special traditionaldishes. In the Finnish tradi-tion, I learned that we had tosing before we could tastethe original flavor of Finnish cuisine. “Kai-yang” or“chicken song” was the most requested and mostpopular song during dinnertime. Moreover, the ice holeswimming gave me the chance to experience the realcoldness and traditional Finnish-style sauna.

I would like to express my gratitude to the IHDorganizers for offering me an unforgettable experiencein Helsinki and also for the great opportunity to meet, exchange, and learn the different cultures andperspectives among the participants. Last but notleast, thank you for educating and giving all theparticipants the international outlook and awarenessof the sustainable development needed in order tobalance and save for future generations.

I’ve been in Bangkok for seven weeks now and everythinghas been amazing so far! It took me a couple of days to getadjusted to the time difference, the change of climate andthe way of life in Bangkok. Now everything is perfect! The cityis great, the people are friendly and the BBA students areawesome. I love meeting people from all over the globe; it’swonderful to learn about so many different cultures in such ashort span of time. The staff at the BBA office has beenextraordinary. Not only did they pick me up from the airport-arelief for a weary traveler, they also provided the BBA studentswith an informative orientation and brought us to Hua Hin for aweekend in order to get to know each other.

I have also thoroughly enjoyed meeting some of the manyThai students in the BBA program. They are welcoming andare willing to help me out at anytime. I’ve even called a coupleof Thai friends to translate for me in difficult moments. Mybuddies have also been wonderful friends. They have taken meout to lunch, they teach me interesting facts about Thailand

and have even brought me to Ayudhaya for a day trip. Thank you Kul and Punky! In addition, I’ve joinedthe Boxing Club on campus to be part of the campus life. The reason I chose the boxing club is because I wantedto do something I wouldn’t do back home in order to learn more about the Thai culture. This experience hasbeen great so far, the Ajarns and the other boxers are really friendly. They are always willing to teach menew techniques.

I am extremely happy to have chosen Thailand for my exchange trip, especially with the wonderfulprogram here at Thammasat University. I will absolutely recommend Thammasat to any other Canadiansstudents interested in an exchange in Asia. Thank you very much for an experience of a lifetime and I willremember this for the rest of my life!

Exchange ProgramIt’s BBA#13’s turn for applying to be exchange students. Each selected student will study in our

network for one year or one semester by paying TU tuition fees and the credits earned are transferable backto TU for graduation. The BBA Program strongly encourages our students to be exposed to the internationalenvironment. Not only to benefit from studying in different environments, but they will also learn to adjust tonew cultures & lifestyles and to meet their new friends.

Now is the time for selection process, we wish the qualified candidates will be selected according tothe first choice as exchange students. Good Luck!!!

I do not know whom this isintended for, nor am I aware of itsexact purpose. I have been askedto comment on my experience sofar in the BBA program atThammasat University and inorder to make it as short aspossible. There is absolutely noway I can include all I wouldlike to include in half a page butI will do my best.

My encounters with Thai culture have been mindopening and exciting but the meaning they have hadto me would have no relevance for an incoming visitor, for these experiences are always unique and at themercy of one’s perceptions and ideas. I cannot avoidthe incredibly considerate attitude of the Universitypersonnel towards incoming exchange students

however. As far as I am concerned, and this may be ageneralization, Thailand fully deserves its reputationas the land of smiles. From my first day here, I havemet unbelievably sympathetic people, ranging froman eclectic range of origins and occupations. MyProfessors here (Ajarns) listen to my opinions, mylandlord takes me golfing with him on weekends, myThai boxing coaches are inviting me to receptions, Thaistudents take me out exploring the city of Bangkokand the surrounding cities and not to mention all theother exchange students, with whom it is alwayspleasant to experience the particularities of the Thaiculture.

Thailand has beautiful beaches and blazing sunfor twelve hours everyday. The nightlife is vibrant andthere are zillion of shopping malls. The food is madlygood and cheap. So is the beer. What else would astudent could wish for?

G’Day everyone.

Attending BBA Program at Thammasat University, most of us may aim at being on exchange with partneruniversities throughout the world. I am one of those, and now, I can do it.

I am currently on exchange at The AustralianNational University, Canberra, and the capital ofAustralia. On the very first few days that I arrived, everything was so hard for me. I could not catch upwith Aussie accents, I did not have friends, and Iwas extremely lonely. However, when time passed, everything changed. I got more friends, and myEnglish ability has improved, though not a lot.Education system in Australia is somewhat differentfrom Thailand’s. Here, students need to attendlectures (huge lecture theatre with hundreds ofstudents) and tutorials (small class that aims atdiscussion with only 15-20 students.) Therefore,

the system here requires me to studyconsistently in order to catch up with thediscussion in tutorials. Anyway, I still believethat BBA students are more hard-working.

For the accommodation, I stay in thedorm that provides all meals. Some peopledo complain about the food, but to me, Ihave no problems, because I can eateverything that is edible!

My exchange life was even betterwhen I had a great chance to welcomeAjarns from Thammasat, includingProfessor Dr. Surapon Nitikraipot, Rectorof Thammasat University and Dr. Somboon

Kulvisaechana, Associate Director of BBA Program, inSeptember last year. It was a great day and we endedup having dinner together, including a little chit-chat ofwhat’s going on in Thailand.

Exchange program is one of the best experienceI have ever had in my life, and I strongly encourage allstudents who have the opportunity to join this program.I also would like to say thank you to BBA Program,International Office, and everyone who gave this greatopportunity for me. See you guys in July.

After the longest flight in my life, and 70 kgs of luggage behind me, I wasever so grateful to have a strong Danishman to carry my bags to my newaccommodation. I can therefore say myfirst impression was good.

My ambition for this year was tolearn as much as possible about Europeanculture, people and my English skills.Unfortunately, my accommodation didn’thave any Danes with whom I couldbefriend myself, however there was awealth of other interesting natives I couldmingle with. More or less from day one,it has been pure hectic for me.

The teaching system inCopenhagen is very adaptable and thelecturers don’t try and intimidate you.During an exam they are so keen to fishout your strong points giving you a betterchance of doing well. The Danes focus alot on presentation and other soft skills;which in my opinion are other attributesof a good manager. To get up therefor the first time and present wasnerve-wrecking but it soon grew on me.Copenhagen Business School hasinvested tremendous amounts of time andeffort to organize all sorts of events for

I just almost forget how I felt at the beginning when I came here in alittle campus called “Universite Catholique de Louvain”. The study systemhere is really like self-service, which you have to prepare everything for yourself. No distributing class materials in the individuals’ folders like BBA staffs do. Ifyou don’t buy the paper quota and print them out yourself from the Universitywebsite, then you are lost during the class! Most of the communication betweenstudents-professors or students-students works through emails because it’s verysmall opportunities to meet them outside the class except in the party which youwouldn’t want to bring the topic of work in the middle of conversation, wouldyou? The classmates are very various, not always the same faces like in BBA.They are from everywhere... So you can imagine how diverse ideas are broughtup in a group work or project! There are so many changes in my lifestyles sinceI arrived here...and the most important change is the skill of cooking..haha Iknow that everyone expect me to say something very extraordinary..but sorrybecause I spent so much time on taking care of myself by myself here. And Ido enjoy cooking even I hardly ever cooked before I came here. It hasautomatically changed once you get fed up with dry sandwiches, fries and

pasta. Thanks to Verisa, my buddy who already went back to BKK for teaching me how to cook so many kindsof food.:) Studying in Belgium provide a great opportunity to see the world smaller and great chance to travelaround since 2 hours by train then I’m in another country of Luxembourg or 4 hours and I’m in Amsterdam. Butwhat’s more important is I really have more time to think about what I want for myself and how I should deal withthe problems when there’s no family around. Thanks to BBA program to give me such an opportunity to studyabroad and help coordinating and everything, especially P’Pam:).........

their separate but equal exchange students. Without the Danishcrash course and weekly get together events organized by theirinternational office I would have made far less friends. I would liketo take this opportunity to applaud them on this one!!

Denmark itself is a very small place, and all my guests thathave come over from Europe and Thailand; successfully saweverything there was to see in one day. By all means don’t be putoff by this; people here are extremely approachable and I’ve mademany friends in a short period of time. The atmosphere in Denmarkis extremely relaxed; everyone is overwhelmingly, but yet pleasantlyfriendly. I was astonished that the whole nation can speak Englishfluently...with an American accent!!

I am still thoroughly enjoying this experience and I would liketo add that this experience would not have been open to me, if Ihad not worked hard in my previous years. I am certain thatprospective students wanting to go abroad for their 3rd year wouldlove it; and to let you in on a little secret, ‘Denmark is a lot morethan just UHT milk.’

I felt so excited when I found out that I wasgoing to Hawaii for the exchange. I heard Hawaii is likea paradise where there are beautiful beaches, mountain, and etc. Well, it really is! When I first saw Hawaii withmy own eyes, I can’t believe how blue the sea is andhow white the sand is. At that moment, I knew rightaway that here is my place and I would have a wonderfultime here. I arrived Hawaii two weeks prior the semesterstarts so I have to find my own housing. I got into ahost-family program and I was assigned to stay with areally nice host family. I paid $180 for this programwhich I though this money would go to host-familypocket. But in fact it’s a cost for processing documentsof the program. Host-family gets nothing from beinghost-family. It surprised me a lot. And I was even moresurprised when the host-dad asked me stay with himfor the rest of semester without charging me any

money!!! The result is I can save money that I supposedto pay for on-campus dorm for shopping yeah yeah!!!The facility of on-campus dorm is not good and Isuggest nong nong to find off-campus dorm. It’s a lotbetter! There are a lot of activities to do in Hawaii suchas surfing, body boarding, hiking, etc. You can take abus to everywhere in the island but it would be betterto have a friend who can drive and have a car, muchmore fun! I was so surprised that there is a ThaisStudent Association in University of Hawaii at Manoa. It’s an official club in University of Hawaii at Manoa.I attended its meeting once and made a lot of friends.Thai people here are so nice. You’ll never feel lonely^^. Local people here are quite busy. They work andstudy all times. I wonder if they have any free time toenjoy themselves. So I mostly hang out with peoplefrom the mainland which refers to other states in USA,and exchange students. Hawaii is really not like theUSA. So far I still feel that I’m not in USA but rather insome island in the middle of nowhere. There’s mixculture here, some part such as Waikiki is Japanesetown whereas some part such as Waipahu is Philippinetown. No one knows that I’m an exchange studentsince I’m Asian and a lot of Asian student study atUniversity of Hawaii at Manoa. So most of a time, Ihave to help myself in study. Since no one knows I amexchange student, I gain no attention, and I amexpected to deliver the same standard with otherstudents. Although it’s difficult sometimes, it helps megrow up

throughout both semesters. Thesehave helped me improved myanalytical and presentation skills. One lesson I learned in Canada istimeliness. (Whoever wants tostudy in Canada, please bepunctual for meetings, says 15:00is 15:00, not 16:00...)

Like everyone said, I couldnot avoid gaining weight. I stayedon campus in a furnished roomsharing with one great roommate.Whenever we were free, we

started cooking food and tried to get secret recipes outof each other. Although I was not a good chef, I couldmix all sauces together to make the food look good....

Besides academic areas, I had opportunities toexplore the world along the Rockies and the rest ofCanada with my exchange friends when I had time off.I confess that I was speechless at the first glimpse oftheir enchanting beauty.

Last but not least, I am sure that, by joining anexchange program, I have learned different cultures andbroadened my knowledge and visions. Calgarian andall international friends have earned a permanent placein my memory. I am certain that these moments we allhave been sharing for a whole year would be kept inme for the rest of my life. I want to thank the BBA andP’Pam on behalf of BBA#12 who supported us andmade this memorable and unforgettable event comestrue.

What do you think of Canada? You can imaginefreezing weather with snow everywhere and you maynever want to live there. This was what made me happy, but nervous, once I knew I would have to go onexchange at the University of Calgary.

For me, being alone in Calgary was harsh for thefirst few months, especially for the fact that I had to beaway from home. I had to adapt myself to Canadianculture and coldness. I bet every exchange student feltthe same way. However, after I had been overwhelmedby a bunch of awesome activities provided by StudentCenter within University of Calgary, such as skiing, iceskating and snowshoeing, I made lots of friends; andI started to enjoy my exchange life.

Studying at Haskayne School of Business, theUniversity of Calgary, which is one of the top 5 businessschools in Canada was as challenging as I expected. There were plenty of group projects and cases

Most exchange students aren’t fortunateenough to be taken on a welcoming trip by their hostuniversity. However, for the BBA exchange studentsat Thammasat-two days of sun, sea, and sand atHua-Hin’s luxurious Dusit Resort is the norm.

On Saturday morning, we learned how to cooksome Thai food and painted our own T-shirts. The

On Friday morning, after the 2 hour bus ride,we checked in, ate some buffet, and went swimming. We were then herded out to a lawn to engage in aseries of DJ-hosted “get-to-know-each-other” gamessuch as “birdie in the nest” and “hot potato: hula-hoopstyle”. Yes, we did feel like 12-year-olds, and yes, wedid have fun doing it. The staff and students split intothree teams, and after a period of highly creative nameforming, Team Awesome, Team Kick-Ass, and TeamJeng-Maak competed in several tests of strength, agility, and mental prowess. Pam from the BBA officemanaged to lead Team Awesome to what was her thirdlast-place finish in three years, while Team Kick-Asswas victorious despite having to pass several 7-foottall Netherlanders through small holes in netting. T-shirts ranged from beautifully artistic to visuallypainful, as some students like Matt were unable tocolor within the lines. We finished the trip atMaruekhathaiyawan Palace often referred to as “thepalace of love” on the beach, and because it was formany of us our first cultural outing in Thailand, andbecause they had really good blueberry ice cream, wehad a good time that morning.

Some of us headed home-the rest stayed behindto check out some waterfalls and enjoy an extra day ofsun and swimming. All in all, it was a great trip organizedby great staff, and if you’re interested, stop by the firstfloor of the Faculty of Commerce and Acountancybuilding to check out some pictures from the weekend.
