La Mercè de Barcelona dura 5 días y es un festival que se realiza en honor de la Mare de Deu de la Mercè (Madre de Dios de la Merced), la patrona de Barcelona.
El festival, el cual oficialmente se realizó por primera vez en 1902, despide el verano con una explosión y da la bienvenida a los meses frescos del otoño.En 2013 habrá cientos de actividades diferentes que se realizarán en la ciudad.Las calles estarán llenas con los eventos, desfiles, llamas (Correfoc)— ¡y personas! Así que te recomendamos que no pienses en alquilar un coche si piensas usarlo en el centro de la ciudad durante la época del festival.Hay cientos de actividades que se realizarán en el Festival Mercè este año, sin embargo hay varios “eventos principales” que ahora son famosos en el festival.
Correfocs LUGAR: Porta Cambo, Avenida Francesc Cambo, Plaza de Antoni Maura, Vía Laietana, Plaza de Antoni López y Consolat de Mar.
Si vas a vivir el Correfoc te aconsejamos que lleves vestimenta protectora, pues suelen rociarse poderosas chispas de fuegos artificiales a la multitud. Deberíais traer sombreros, gafas protectoras y camisas gruesas de manga larga que te protejan de los fuegos artificiales voladores.Generalmente hay 2 tipos de Correfoc la misma noche. Uno de ellos es para chicos y es mucho más calmado que el Correfoc “para adultos” que se realiza más tarde en la noche.El evento del Correfoc se realiza al crepúsculo. Generalmente a lo largo de la Vía Laietana y en sus alrededores. La calle estará cerrada pero se abre para los Diablos. Los Diablos son grupos especiales de la comunidad que se disfrazan como demonios y desfilan por las calles durante ciertos festivales de Barcelona. El Festival La Mercè es uno de dichos festivales. Los demonios corren por las calles con petardos y fuegos artificiales en la mano. Habrá explosiones y llamas. También vagan por las calles los dragones sopla fuego (o al menos dragones que botan chispas) que salen con los demonios brincando con fuegos artificiales en sus manos.El Correfoc “para adultos” se realiza después del Correfoc “junior”. La principal diferencia es que en el evento para adultos realmente se botan llamas de los fuegos artificiales a las personas.Si eres nervioso tal vez deberías alejarte del Correfoc.

If you live the Fire Run we advise you to take protective clothing, as they often spray powerful firework sparks to the crowd. You should bring hat, goggles and thick long-sleeved shirt to protect you from flying fireworks. Generally there are 2 types of Fire Runs the same night, one is for children and it is lighter than adults one which performance is later that evening.The Fire Run event takes place at twilight. Generally along the Vía Laietana and around. The street will be closed but open to “the Devils”. Devils are special community groups masquerading as devils and parade through the streets during certain festivals of Barcelona, La Mercè Festival is one of these festivals. Demons run through the streets with firecrackers and fireworks in hand. There will be explosions and flames. Also roaming the streets blowing fire dragons (or at least bouncing sparks Dragons) coming out with demons jumping with fireworks in their hands.The “adult” Fire Run takes place after the “junior”one. The main difference is that in the adult event really get tossed fireworks flames of people —if you’re nervous maybe you should get away from the Fire Run.
Castellers Torres Humanas
LUGAR: Plaça de Sant Jaume.
Este evento es uno de los puntos destacados del Festival de la Mercè y generalmente se desarrolla en la Plaza de Sant Jaume. Miles de personas se apiñarán en la plaza así que es mejor llegar temprano. El objetivo de los Castellers es construir una torre humana y hacer que un chico suba hasta la cima de la torre y se pare en ella. Construir una torre humana requiere de gran planificación y trabajo en equipo y es algo sorprendente de ver.
Castellers Human Towers
LOCATION: Plaça de Sant Jaume.
This event is one of the highlights of the Mercè Festival and usually develops Jaume Square. Thousands of people will crowd in the square so it’s best to arrive early. The aim of the Castellars is to build a human tower and make a guy go up to the top of the tower and stand on it. Building a human tower requires great planning and teamwork and is something amazing to see.
Gigantes Desfile de Gigantes
LUGAR: Plaza de la Mercè, la Catedral de Barcelona y la Plaça de Sant Jaume.
El desfile de gigantes es un evento muy popular para toda la familia. Enormes gigantes con imágenes de reyes, reinas y nobles marchan por las calles de Barcelona. Estas enormes figuras se elevan por encima de la multitud y dan vueltas para que la audiencia pueda verlos en toda su gloria. El desfile suele ir acompañado de pequeños grupos de percusión que tocan un ritmo con los tambores mientras pasan los gigantes.El Festival La Mercè de Barcelona tendrá algo para todos, música, representaciones callejeras, drama en miles de puntos de la ciudad. Gigantes Giants Parade
LOCATION: Plaza de la Merced, the Cathedral and the Plaça de Sant Jaume.
The parade of giants is a very popular event for the whole family. Huge giant images of kings, queens and nobles march through the streets of Barcelona. These huge figures rise above the crowd and go round to the audience can see them in all their glory. The parade is usually accompanied by small groups of percussion playing a rhythm with the drums while passing the giants.The Barcelona La Mercè Festival will have something for everyone, music, street plays, drama in many parts of the city. Join the fun with the biggest party of the year in Barcelona.
Barcelona La Mercè lasts five days and is a festival held in honor of Mare de Deu de la Mercè (Mother of God of

BCN EVENTS ¿Cuándo te interesaste por la música electrónica y por qué?
JOE BLACK KOKO Me interesé de15 años en la colección de vinilos del dueño de un pequeño club, me dejaba por las tardes antes de abrir tocar a puerta cerrada, investigar, rebuscar, fusionar, descubrir, sentir, a veces hecho de menos esa relación íntima que había con el vinilo y busco tiendas donde bucear entre discos antiguos, la electrónica me dio la posibilidad de plasmar todas estas sensaciones y elementos en una historia que todavía sigo explicando a todos aquellos que se acercan a escucharme y yo agradecido.
BCN EVENTS ¿Cuáles son tus influencias?
JOE BLACK KOKO Mis influencias son muchas, yo escuché de pequeño mucha música negra, jazz, funk, soul y electrónica, sobre todo deep y techno, en la actualidad, creo que todos estos ingredientes luego se plasman y reflejan a la hora de crear un set o un tema. Si quieres que te diga artistas, me quedaría con el saber hacer de Laurent Garnier, la actitud de Carl Cox y la elegancia de Satoshi Tomie.
BCN EVENTS ¿Cuál fue la primera canción que compraste?
JOE BLACK KOKO No se si recuerdo cual fue, son muchas ya...pero te diría que creo que era un vinilo de Johnny Guitar Watson, nada que ver con lo de ahora pero que sin duda me marcó.
BCN EVENTS ¿Qué canción de tu colección es tu mayor tesoro?
JOE BLACK KOKO Tengo varios tesoros, tanto por antiguedad como por el tema emocional, recuerdo especialmente un White Label de Ministers de la Funk con Jocelyn Brown que me pudo firmar en persona en el backstage, ese día me abrazó la música. :)
BCN EVENTS ¿Cómo se llega a ser DJ Residente de unos de los mejores Clubs de Barcelona como es La Terrrazza?
JOE BLACK KOKO No se como se llega, pero trabajando mucho y respetando a todo el mundo y sobre todo compartiendo música, momentos, proyectos y disfrutando con todo ello. BCN EVENTS ¿Es cierto que del Club La Terrrazza se regresa siempre con compañía a casa?
JOE BLACK KOKO Ja ja ja...no se a que te refieres...a veces simplemente no se regresa...aunque a mí en mi casa me gusta encontrar tranquilidad. BCN EVENTS ¿Qué podemos esperar en el futuro próximo de Joe Black Koko?
JOE BLACK KOKO Ahora estoy consolidando mi residencia y fiesta propia en La Terrrazza junto a Ellie Pettersson, sumado a varios proyectos con la agencia de Londres Wicked7, con la cual toco en Egg London en septiembre en la fiesta Supernova y en diciembre un tour por la India que me apetece mucho, también estamos preparando nuevo label, temas nuevos, y mi podcast mensual para The Key Radio. Me gustaría agradecer el trabajo y la fé que han puesto en mi Albert Tio, Julio Amores de La Terrrazza y Angela Caruccio de Wicked7.
BCN EVENTS ¿Qué opinión te merece BCN Events Magazine?
JOE BLACK KOKO Todo lo que sea comunicación e informaciónsobre ocio y cultura me parece interesante para el público en general, siempre sin saturar y vuestro formato me parece ideal.

BCN EVENTS When did you start to get interested in electronic music and why?
JOE BLACK KOKO When I was 15 years old i got interested in the vynil collection of a little club owner, who left me get into that room with a closed door and left me investigate, seek, mix, discover, feel sometimes I still miss that intimate relationship that I deliver with vynils, I still seek shops where I can dive into those old records, electronic gave me the possibility to expose all those sensations and elements into a story which I still explaining to those who join and listen to me, I am grateful.
BCN EVENTS Do you have influnces?
JOE BLACK KOKO I am influenced by black music, jazz, funk, soul, electronic, and over all deep and techno because I listened to them since I was a kid, actually, I believe all this ingredients take form at the moment of creating a set or a theme. If you want to know about artists, I would choose the knowledge of Laurent Garnier, the attitude of Carl Cox and the elegance of Satoshi Tomie.
BCN EVENTS Which was the first single you bought?
JOE BLACK KOKO I do not know if I remember which it was, there were many...maybe Johnny Guitar Watson vynil, nothing related to the present, but there is no doubt that it left a sign on me.
BCN EVENTS Which song of your collection do you consider a your treasure?
JOE BLACK KOKO I have some treasures, because of the ages they have lived and due to the emotional value they have for me, I remember White Label from Ministers of Funk with Jocelyn Brown as a special one because he signed it for me personally in the backstage, that day music hugged me. :)
BCN EVENTS How can you become a Resident DJ in one of the best Clubs from Barcelona like La Terrrazza?
JOE BLACK KOKO I do no know exactly how, but working and respecting everyone and over all sharing music, moments, projects and enjoying all. BCN EVENTS Is it true that you always grab company back home when getting back from La Terrrazza Club?
JOE BLACK KOKO LOL...I do not understand what you mean... sometimes you do not get back home... even though I like to find tranquility at home. BCN EVENTS What can we expect from Joe Black Koko in the future?
JOE BLACK KOKO Now I am working in my residence and my own party in La Terrrazza together with Ellie Pettersson, collaborating in many projects with Wicked7 London Agency, such as Egg London this September, Supernova party, and in December a tour in India which I am delighted with, we are also preparing a new label, new themes, and my monthly podcast for The Key Radio. BCN EVENTS Hola Pedro ¿es verdad que quieres batir el record del mojito más grande del mundo?
EL REY Sí, voy a romper el Guinness Record del mojito más grande del mundo, hace más de un año que lo intento, pero me han faltado patrocinadores, ya que necesito 2 500 litros, y quiero sea el más grande y el mejor…hasta el útimo vaso del recipiente.
BCN EVENTS ¿Por qué elegiste la ciudad de Barcelona?
EL REY Porque es la ciudad que me dio apoyo y acojida cuando salí de Cuba, aquí he vivido muchas cosas y me he formado como un bartender mixer en el arte de la coctelería.
BCN EVENTS ¿Extrañas Cuba?
EL REY Todo inmigrante extraña la tierra que le dio vida, Cuba está en mi diario pensamiento, en mi inspiración y nostalgía, aunque también está Europa en mi mente ya que soy ciudadano europeo y esta doble nacionalidad me apasiona.
BCN EVENTS ¿Cuáles son los ingredientes necesarios para ser el Rey del Mojito?
EL REY Hay secretos como el de la Coca-Cola —que no se pueden decir— gustan mucho mis cocteles y eso es lo que vale, todo se lo debo a mis clientes del reino.
BCN EVENTS ¿Hay mucha competencia en este trabajo?
EL REY Muchísima, creo que Barcelona es una de las mejores ciudades del mundo dónde hay una coctelería de máximo nivel…aquí hay verdaderos artistas de muchos lugares de este mundo.
BCN EVENTS ¿Qué consejo le darías a un jóven barman?
EL REY Que mida su rapidez y habilidad en la puesta en escena de la creación…igual, mejor tarde pero que gane impacto.
BCN EVENTS ¿Prefieres lounge bar o discoteca?
EL REY Me da igual, me los como igual, he sido figura en lounges importantes de Barna como Oven, Rita blue, Sub Rosa, Astorias, La Cazalla Bar, etc. Luego también en discos como Sutton Club, Vieja Destilería, Universal, Habana Barcelona, Roxy, Row 14, he sido un juglar de la noche, extraña ave rara que encuentra acomodo ahora en Nass Beach Restaurant en pleno corazón de la Barceloneta.

BCN EVENTS Hello Pedro, is it true that you want to beat the record of the largest mojito?
EL REY Yes, I am going to beat the Guinness Record of the largest mojito on earth. I have been trying since last year, but I have not found the right sponsors, because I need at least 2 500 mojito litres. I want the largest and best mojito ever…until the last glass of the container.
BCN EVENTS Why did you choose Barcelona?
EL REY Because it is the city that supported me since I left Cuba, I have lived here lots of events and I have been formed as a bartender mixer in cocktail art.
BCN EVENTS Do you miss Cuba?
EL REY Every immigrant misses homeland, Cuba is my daily thought and my inspiration, even though Europe is as well in my mind because I am an euopean citizen; this double nationality is my passion.
BCN EVENTS Which are the needed ingredients to be Mojito King?
EL REY I have secrets as Coca-Cola —which can not be uncovered— my cocktails are very appreciated and that is what really worths, I owe my kingdom to my customers.
BCN EVENTS Is there a lot of competence in this work?
EL REY Very much, I believe Barcelona is one of the best cities in the world where cocktails are at the highest level…real artists from many places around the world can be found here.
BCN EVENTS What would you advice to a young barman?
EL REY To measure speed and skills in creation stages…better to be recognized later but with lot of buzz.
BCN EVENTS Do you prefer a lounge bar or a disco club?
EL REY It is the same for me, I can satisfy any of them, I have collaborated in important places at Barna like Oven, Rita blue, Sub Rosa, Astorias, La Cazalla Bar, etc. I have also worked at discos like Sutton Club, Vieja Destilería, Universal, Habana Barcelona, Roxy, Row 14, I have been a night minstrel, weird bird who fits now at Nass Beach Restaurant in the heart of Barceloneta.

Norse Project acaba de desvelar su última colaboración con
New Balance, un pack que incluye dos versiones del modelo 1500 inspirados en los colores que hay durante las temporadas de otoño y invierno en Dinamarca. El primer
modelo viene en un tono marrón anaranjado, asemejándose a los colores que hay en los bosques de Copenhagen mientras que el otro viene combinando gris y azul como reflejo de los cielos nublados y el frío invierno.
Finalmente Norse Projects ha decidido reemplazar el clásico logo bordado de la marca por la “N” reflectante del modelo 993. El Danish Weather Pack estará disponible en 24 Kilates el próximo lunes 26 de agosto.
Norse Projects has officially revealed its Danish Weather collaboration
alongside New Balance. The pack includes two different takes on New Balance’s 1500 silhouette as a nod to the autumnal weather that sets in on the Danes for the majority of
the year —one is reminiscent of the brown and brunt orange of Copenhagen’s forests while the other comes in hues of grey and blue as a reflection of the seasonal, cloudy skies.
Finally, Norse Projects decided to switch things up a bit by replacing the 1500s usual embroidered branding with the reflective 3M “N” of the 993.The Danish Weather pack will be available at 24 Kilates next Monday 26th, in store first!
