This newsletter was designed with the latest evidences available, in order to guide people when bleaching their natural teeth and possible complications. it was written in the simplest manner and contains a number of the most frequent questions (doubts) presented to the dentists, as well as the answers we believe that are the most adequate. Therefore, we strongly recommend to perform dental bleaching under the supervision of your dentist.



What causes staining of my teeth?Many things can affect the color of your teeth. Certain foods and beverages, tobacco, drugs and some diseases can cause unsightly stains. Also, as we age, it is normal that the color of our teeth gets dark. Is there something I can do to prevent this?Yes. Today highly effective measures are available. One proven method is called homemade bleaching indicated and supervised by your dentist and the professional team.

Home bleaching: how it works?After examination by your dentist, a model of your teeth is obtained. An individual tray is made to be filled with powerbleaching whitening gel by BM4. The gel releases oxygen, which lightens the stains of the tooth gently. The tray filled with gel is usually used one hour per day, or for a longer period, which will be defined by your dentist.

I have to visit my dentist every application?No. At the start of the treatment the dentist schedule the plan for applications according to their diagnosis. The tray is made , and you are instructed to use the product safely. Then you perform the treatment at home comfortably, until the moment of a checkup at your dentist. Is tooth whitening indicated for everyone?No. Some types of people, such as children, pregnant women and nursing mothers should not be exposed. Your dentist will consider if the tooth whitening is indicated for you. So always consult your dentist.

How long will be the treatment?Varies according to the cause and degree of staining. Generally, the whitening effect is visible after the first applications. Stains caused by specific types of food and beverages will usually disappear between 10 and 12 days. Spots due to diseases or medications may require prolonged treatment, which can take months.

Is at-home tooth bleaching safe?According to the latest scientific research, it does not damage teeth, the gingiva, or existing restorations. Should I expect any side effects?During the treatment, there may be increased sensitivity of the teeth and gingival irritation. These effects disappear with the end of the treatment or even earlier.

Can I avoid or at least reduce these side effects?Yes. Avoid citric fruits and acidic beverages during treatment. Using powerbleaching gel reduces the risk for irritation and increased sensitivity. A well adapted and carefully filled tray also helps to make the treatment comfortable. Please carefully follow the instructions given by your dentist. The decrease in the daily use for one hour and decreased concentration of the bleaching gel (to 10%), for example, help to minimize the sensitivity rates.

How long it lasts the result of the home bleaching?This depends largely on your lifestyle. The effect of whitening usually lasts between one and four years. Types of foods and beverages you consume, cigarette smoking, age and dental hygiene greatly influence the duration of the effect of whitening. Drinking coffee, tea and wine frequently, as well as smoking, can make stains to return fairly quick.

How can I keep bleached teeth white for as long as possible?Good oral hygiene keeps your teeth beautiful for a long time.
