FINAL WEEKS OF CAMPING MINISTRY AT CAMP MOWANA THIS SUMMER.
This summer will be the last for camping ministries at Camp Mowana. Several of our youth will attend high
school week June 30 through July 5. Then from July 7-12, several of our primary/junior and intermediate age
youth will attend that session. Pastor Krebill will also be at Mowana that week, serving his 41st and final time
as a volunteer chaplain in this ministry.
A weekend of activities formally marking the end of ministry at Camp Mowana will be held on August 10-11.
Pastor Krebill will take part in this event as well. When the season is over, Mowana will become a part of the
Richland County Park system, where it will be known as Fleming Falls Nature Preserve. You can get more
information about this change at lomocamps.org.
YOU CAN HELP SEND A KID TO CAMP by sponsoring a full scholarship. It costs from $375 to $390 to
send one child to camp. Or you can give whatever you can, designating your offering go to SPECIAL FUND
102, Youth Activities.
Your generous support allows us to see to it that every child who wants to can go to camp, regardless of
financial circumstances. We make partial and full scholarships available every year.

The Detroit Handbell Ensemble (DHE) is an auditioned performance ensemble that has
delighted audiences in the Motor City and beyond since 1991, and they
will be at Bethel!
Plan to join us on Sunday, June 30 for a 4 p.m. concert as DHE winds its way home
from performing at Handbell Musicians of America’s (HMA’s), Area 2 Festival
Conference in Lancaster, PA.
The Ensemble performed a featured concert at HMA’s National Seminar in 2018 and
has regularly appeared on concert series throughout Michigan and northwest Ohio. Under the artistic direction
of Brenda Austin and Kyle Webber, the group will present Music that Moves Us, a varied program that includes
original handbell compositions as well as arrangements of favorite hymn tunes and, yes, even some Motown. It
promises to be an engaging afternoon! DHE performs on five octaves of Malmark handbells and more than six
octaves of Malmark choirchimes. Are you wondering why DHE chose Bethel as a stopping point? One of
“Bethel’s own,” Lynette Hoelter, is a member of the ensemble.
The concert is free, but donations are gladly accepted. More information at about DHE can be found at
RingDetroit.org.
PICNIC ON THE FRONT LAWN SCHEDULED FOR JULY 21
After the success of last summer’s “picnic on the front lawn” as part of our youth gathering weekend, another
similar event is scheduled for Sunday July 21. That day our worship theme will be our last “Camp Sunday”
presentation as our ministry with Camp Mowana concludes. After worship we will once again hold a potluck
picnic on the church’s front lawn. Donnette Ipsaro is coordinating the food for the event, so please see her if
you can help. Sign-up sheets and more information will be available as we get closer to July.

Kindness: Compassion in Action with Greeting Cards Our "Adopt-a-Member" ministry team mails cards to Bethel members who are:
• on our "Prayer List" or receiving Pastoral care
• home-bound or living in Assisted Living/Nursing Home
• ill, in the hospital, or in rehab
• bereaving or suffering with personal concerns
• away at college or in the military
• celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or a special event
The ministry also sends cards to visitors and invited guests. And, individually, outside the ministry, some
team members send cards to inmates at local prisons, homeless women and their children, and/or participate in
Southwest General Health Center's "Care Cards" program.
Sending cards is a way to show kindness, responding to human emotions of empathy, sympathy, and caring.
Though simple, cards are more than just words. Mailing a card is like sending a small part of yourself, a way to
go somewhere moving only your heart.
A card is also a gift and, sometimes, a legacy. Your gift is time, encouragement, hope, prayers, hospitality,
laughter, and service. Nothing feels so inspiring to people as knowing that someone, somewhere, is thinking
about them. As Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 5:11, "Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up."
Adding a handwritten message on a card is all the more appreciated because it says, "I care enough about you
to take time from my busy day and spend it with you." And unlike a phone call, a card can be read over and
over, with a continuing warm embrace of your words, written with your unique penmanship and thoughts.
Within our church and in our communities, there are many ways
you can brighten the day of someone whose life may be more
challenging than what you might think yours is.
Show that you care. Put your compassion into action. Share a
hug! You can join our card team or you can send cards, individually.
Either way, cards and postage stamps are paid for with "seed" money
from Thrivent's "Action Team" program.
See Ray Herzog after any Sunday service or call me (216-433-4396)
to learn more about this easy and self-rewarding act of kindness. For
whatever reason or for whomever you'd like to send cards, I'll bring
cards and stamps for you on the next Sunday.
