5With a dizzying array of options for booking travel, planning your dream holiday can be a confusing process. Booking with a Travel Counsellor offers unique benefits not found anywhere else. Whether you’re a frequent flyer who needs someone to take care of all your business travel needs or a leisure traveller putting together an annual overseas holiday to remember, here’s why booking with your Travel Counsellor is a winning proposition.

1. FULL FINANCIAL PROTECTION IS GUARANTEED

All travel booked with a Travel Counsellor is always 100% financially protected. This means that if an airline collapses, a hotel closes unexpectedly or a travel operator goes bust, you won’t be out of pocket. When you book with Travel Counsellors you’ll enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing you’re always financially covered, which isn’t always the case when booking online, directly with an operator or with other travel agents.

2. PERSONALISED SERVICE MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE

Booking with a professional can mean the difference between the holiday from hell or the dream trip of a lifetime. Whether planning your ultimate honeymoon, putting

Reasons to book with your Travel Counsellortogether a dream trip for your family or crafting a specialised itinerary for a work trip, having a dedicated professional to speak to when planning a trip is a real bonus. Instead of being treated like a number, Travel Counsellors see their clients as unique individuals. Taking the time to ask questions and work out what you want from your holiday, Travel Counsellors are genuinely focused on delivering the best travel experiences money can buy.

3. BOOKING YOUR HOLIDAY IS A SMOOTH EXPERIENCE

If you’re accustomed to spending hours comparing airfare quotes and trawling hotel comparison websites, then you’ll know that booking a holiday on your own can be a confusing, time-consuming and stressful process. When booking with a Travel Counsellor, you have access to a professional that knows how to tailor a holiday to meet your needs. Your Travel Counsellor will make your booking, provide all your travel documents, advise on any visa requirements and keep you updated with anything else you need to know. With a Travel Counsellor taking care of everything, you’ll spend less time organising and stressing, and more time daydreaming about how that first cocktail on the beach is going to taste!

4. YOU’LL BE TAKEN CARE OF DURING EMERGENCIES

When you book with a Travel Counsellor you automatically have a team of travel professionals on your side. Operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the global duty office team work around the clock to ensure you’re taken care of in case of an emergency. If you need to change flights or secure extra accommodation due to extreme weather events, civil unrest or other unforeseen circumstances, the duty office can help make the process easier. While emergencies are rare, they do happen and being left high and dry in a foreign country can be an extremely stressful and costly experience.

5. YOU’LL GET ACCESS TO A WIDE RANGE OF TRAVEL EXPERIENCES

The world really is your oyster when booking with a Travel Counsellor. With access to thousands of airlines, hotels, resorts, cruises, tours and activities, Travel Counsellors aren’t locked into booking with certain companies. Many travel websites only offer a small range of hotels or airlines to choose from, so when searching online you might be missing out on all sorts of incredible deals and travel ideas. An expedition cruise through the Northwest Passage? A luxury safari through Botswana? An unforgettable rail journey in Peru? With a Travel Counsellor, the choice is really yours.

Hong Kong’s status as a gastronomic heavyweight is well-known. Combining rich culinary traditions from the region with global influences from near and far, Hong Kong’s food scene is a lively, exciting one for visitors to explore. Here are some of the must-try food and wine experiences to have while visiting Hong Kong.

FINDING THE BEST EGG TART

Originally brought to the region by Portuguese traders, the egg tart (also known as ‘dan tat’) can be found in bakeries and restaurants all over Hong Kong. This simple yet delicious treat of sweet custard wrapped in buttery pastry is the perfect snack to enjoy in between a spot of sightseeing or shopping. Make it your mission to find the best one and you’ll have fun snacking your way around Hong Kong.

SITTING DOWN TO A DIM SUM FEAST

Also known as ‘yum cha’, dim sum is a ritual not to be missed when visiting Hong Kong. The act of sitting down with friends and family to share tea

Hong Kong on a plateand Cantonese dishes, dim sum can be enjoyed in a busy, family-owned eatery packed with diners or in the refined atmosphere of a lauded Michelin-star restaurant. Whether grabbing dishes from a cart being wheeled around the dining room or enjoying silver service in a five star hotel restaurant - both experiences are recommended while in Hong Kong. Steamed dumplings, barbecue pork buns and beef meatballs – there are hundreds of dishes to choose from, so pace yourself to avoid feeling too full, too soon!

HITTING THE BAR SCENE

After dark, Hong Kong’s bars are the ideal place to kick back after a day of exploration. Want to check out the city skyline? Try roof top drinks at an upscale hotel bar to enjoy city skyline views with a carefully crafted cocktail. Want a quiet, sophisticated spot to relax in? Boutique wine bars such as French-style Cochin, American-influenced California Vintage and Sydney transplant 121BC offer a cosmopolitan experience right in the heart of Hong Kong. From SoHo to Star Street Precinct and Ashley Road in Kowloon, wherever you are in Hong Kong there will be a new bar to check out.

SAVOURING A CUP OF TEA

From sitting down to enjoy a traditional tea ceremony in a tea house to trying a cup of Hong Kong-style milk tea in a no frills eatery, Hong Kong is a destination for tea drinkers. With the origins of tea drinking traced back to China, it’s no wonder tea is such an important part of life in Hong Kong. Pick up some green tea or oolong to take back home, buy a decorative tea set at the Jade Market or visit the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea to learn more about this region’s tea drinking culture – either way, don’t leave Hong Kong without touching on the tea scene.

INDULGING IN SOME COMFORT FOOD

A warming bowl of noodle soup is a mainstay choice for most Hong Kong locals and easily found in most streets of the city. Wonton noodle soup, fish ball rice noodles and Cantonese-style congee (rice porridge) are popular, but there are hundreds of different comforting noodle and soup dishes to try. Hawker-style food stalls (known as ‘dai pai dongs’) offer affordable, fast

cuisine cooked the traditional way while high-end restaurants offer similar dishes typically infused with more contemporary touches and ingredients. Either way, Hong Kong’s noodle soups and congees are legendary.

SEE CRUMBLING CASTLES FEATURED IN GAME OF THRONESWith much of the Game of Thrones series filmed in Ireland, fans of the cult series will enjoy visiting some of the locations they’ll recognise from the show. Clinging to a cliff’s edge, Dunluce Castle has been referenced in popular culture for centuries. From acting as the Seat of House Greyjoy in Game of Thrones to appearing on cover artwork for a Led Zeppelin album and serving as inspiration for key settings in C.S Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia books, Dunluce Castle’s appeal is far reaching.

VISIT THE HOME OF GUINNESS

Found in bars, pubs and taverns all over the world, a pint of Guinness is as Irish as they come. When in Dublin, beer lovers have the opportunity to visit the Guinness Storehouse – the home of Guinness brewing. Found in the St James’s Gate Brewery, visitors can find out about the history of the brew, learn how to pour the perfect pint, feast on Guinness-infused meals within the dining hall and stock up on Guinness merchandise.

SEE WHERE THE TITANIC WAS BUILT

Titanic Belfast is one of Ireland’s most popular attractions. Built on the historic site where the Titanic was originally constructed more than 100 years ago, Titanic Belfast gives visitors deep insight into the making of a maritime legend. Guests can explore the shipyard, learn about the construction process and view artefacts such as the last luncheon menu and original promotional posters from the Titanic’s launch. Nowhere else in the world is there a monument to the Titanic quite like this.

EXPLORE ANCIENT VOLCANIC ROCK FORMATIONS BY THE SEA

Thought to be formed a mindboggling 60 million years ago, the Giant’s Causeway is a must-see for any visitor to Northern Ireland. The surreal sight of more than 40,000 basalt columns rising up out of the earth beside the ocean is an utterly unique geological phenomenon that shouldn’t be missed.

Cast your memory back to your last overseas trip and think about the activities and experiences that featured on the itinerary. Now think about what it would be like to do the same trip on crutches, in a wheelchair or while deaf? This is the reality for many people with disabilities who want to see the world but in the past have been held back by accessibility issues.

While many of us are guilty of taking our health and mobility for granted, more and more people with disabilities are traversing the world. Travel Counsellors has some seriously impressive clients who haven’t let their disability stop them from travelling. From enjoying an African safari honeymoon in a wheelchair to traversing India while deaf, our clients are taking to the skies to fulfil their travel dreams.

Here are some considerations when travelling with a disability:

CHOOSE YOUR DESTINATION WISELY

Whether you use a wheelchair, are sight impaired or struggle with arthritis, some destinations are better choices than others. The uneven, cobblestone streets of Europe’s old towns may be beautiful but they also present a hazard for many disabled travellers and many developing nations lack the infrastructure and awareness needed to cater for travellers with disabilities.

When first starting out travelling, choosing a destination closer to home for a short break is wiser than trying a month-long, multi-country journey on another continent. Dealing with long flights or bus rides can be challenging, so once you’ve mastered a shorter flight or break, then you’ll feel more comfortable committing to a longer trip further afield.

COMMUNICATE YOUR NEEDS

Communication is key so book with a professional agent who will notify all hotels, airlines, transfer providers and airports of your needs. From arranging an aisle seat to pre-booking a wheelchair at the airport and ensuring your transfer service is wheelchair friendly, a professional travel agent will be able to make your trip run smoothly much more so than booking online via a website.

CHOOSE TO CRUISE

Generally, cruising takes less of a toll on your body than other forms of travel. With porters and staff to take care of your luggage (which stays in your cabin for your entire trip) cruisers are free to avoid packing, unpacking and lugging their suitcases around every few days. On a cruise, the new port or city comes to you!

Modern ship design tends to include superior accessibility features such as elevators and rooms suitable for passengers with disabilities. Furthermore, most cruise ships have onboard nurses and doctors so anyone travelling with a chronic illness or other health concerns is rest assured they can receive care

while they are away.

Cruising also allows you to choose your travel style and pace, something that is helpful to anyone who tires easily or is dealing with chronic pain. Feeling a little tired? Skip the shore excursion and rest up on deck instead. Struggling to get to a restaurant in the city? Simply hit the ship’s restaurant for a meal instead.

BOOK WELL IN ADVANCE

Last minute trips can be tricky to pull off when you’re travelling with a disability. Many hotels have limited wheelchair-friendly rooms, so the earlier you book the greater the chance of nabbing an accessible room. Same goes for restaurant bookings, concert tickets and transfer services.

SPEAK TO YOUR DOCTOR

Before booking a trip, speak to your doctor who will be able to make expert recommendations based on your unique situation. Your doctor will also be able to advise you of ways to make your trip more comfortable. For example, if you’re prone to blood clots, you may be advised to wear compression stockings while flying. Regardless of your disability or condition, your doctor should be your first port of call before booking your trip. With your doctor’s blessing, the world really is your oyster!

Only 3.5 hours from Sydney, a flight to Fiji unlocks a world of adventure.

Head up into the clouds to skydive or be delivered to a private island via helicopter transfer. Sink deep below to see sharks up close on a diving expedition. Take it slow on a solo hike to a forest-fringed waterfall or speed it up on a family quadbike adventure along dirt tracks.

No matter your age, budget or ability, Fiji represents 360 degrees of fun, whichever direction you choose to head in.

UNDERWATER EXPLORATION

Home to the Great Sea Reef, Great Astrolabe Reef and a network of protected marine areas and world class dive sites, divers are well taken care of in Fiji. Pacific Harbour and Beqa Lagoon are well known shark hotspots, drawing in brave divers from all over the world. Somosomo Strait is where Rainbow Reef and the Great White Wall can be found – both popular dive spots offering a mind blowing dive experience.

Elsewhere, the waters around Kadavu are famed for hosting pilot whales and manta rays, with the Great Astrolabe Reef providing 65 kilometres of unspoilt reef to explore. In diving hot spot Savusavu, the Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort offers diving packages for guests keen to discover the Namema Marine Reserve.

AQUATIC ADVENTURES

Experienced divers may love strapping on a tank and heading down below, however there are plenty of other aquatic adventures that people of all ages can enjoy. Many resorts offer sailing, windsurfing, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding sessions, while keen surfers will be thrilled to test themselves at Cloudbreak, a challenging surf spot found just off Namotu Island. Snorkelling remains one of the most popular activities in Fiji with experiences to suit all ages and abilities on offer.

5 reasons to stay another day in PerthTaking a tractor tour through a cidery, meeting cute quokkas on Rottnest Island and sipping a cocktail that comes with Swan River views – there’s always a reason to spend more time in Perth.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a first time visitor to Perth or returning to experience the city all over again, Western Australia’s ever-evolving capital has something to offer visitors all year round. Here are five of the best things to do while enjoying a Perth getaway:

DROP IN TO PERTH’S COOLEST FOOD AND WINE PRECINCT Designed by the founders of Little Creatures as their ode to the craft beer industry, Petition Beer Corner enlightens connoisseurs with its rotating lineup of 18 tap beers. Matched with beer snacks, there are brews sourced from far-flung locations, limited editions and wondrous experiments. Next door, Petition Wine Bar and Merchant has a similarly curated compilation of wines, including drops from small batch local wine wizards that you won’t see elsewhere.

BECOME A WA FISHERMAN FOR THE DAY Always wanted to help pull a pot of live rock lobsters from the ocean? You can double as a cray fisherman for a day by joining the family behind WA’s Lobster Shack. If you’re keen, they’ll also cook your catch for lunch. Their vessel, Shack Attack departs from Cervantes, about two hour’s drive north of Perth, and also offers adrenalin-rich game fishing charters.

SNAP A SELFIE WITH THE WORLD’S HAPPIEST ANIMAL The cheerful quokkas inhabiting Rottnest Island, only 19km over water from Perth, have to be seen to be believed. These furry natives appear to smile, and provided you’re mindful of their personal space, they’re rather partial to starring in a quokka selfie.

TAKE A TRACTOR TOUR THROUGH A RURAL CIDERYThe Perth Hills are only a 30 minute drive away, but feel like provincial France. Core Cider, in Pickering Brook, makes the most of its rolling hills etched with rows of apple, pear, plum and other fruit trees. Lean on the bar in the wooden tasting room or settle in at the open-air restaurant, where you can match the menu to your libations. Farm tractor tours, seasonal pick-your-own activities and a weekend fruit market add to the fun.

DINE AT PERTH’S HOTTEST NEW RESTAURANTAnyone who’s ever been to Bali will know about Ku De Ta, the luxe bar-restaurant overlooking the ocean in Seminyak. The brand has opened its only outpost in Perth and its fun fine-diner, Ku Dining, is where you’ll want to be at sunset.
