Friends of LaVie!It is true! The management and staff of LaVie are changing the lives of

women and their families. To appreciate this fact is to acknowledge the critical outcomes; a child’s life saved, a mother’s health protected and a family assisted by a loving support community. This is an important truth about the work of LaVie.

There is a related, important truth that can and should be credited to these selfless caregivers. LaVie’s work offers our community CULTURAL HEALING!

Many patients of LaVie cautiously enter our facilities with fear and doubt. This fear and doubt stems from a materialistic, self-focused culture which tells us that “me” and “things” are all the matter, that “we” and “faith” are foolish and will stand in the way of our hopes and dreams. This culture devalues life in order to justify its destruction and it does so by dangling a false sense of happiness and freedom on the other side of important choices.

Our staff understands this culture all too well and, from this understanding, they are able to meet patients at their level, listening to their needs, establishing genuine trust and offering them, as well as others involved in their challenges, options from which they are often shielded. The result? A higher level of care takes place, including healing that recognizes the intrinsic nature and value of the human person. This in turn enables patients to re-enter their environment with a much stronger foundation for making decisions…and they in turn offer this same cultural healing to others….and so on.

Yes. LaVie provides patients critical trust, hope and real options, yet it provides so much more to this community. As a partner in this mission, it is very appropriate you take comfort and pride in knowing you are also healing a culture.

Thank you for saying “yes” to this selfless calling. Sincerely, Jim Day, Chairman

“Thank you so much. I would’ve been lost without

your help.”

Dear friends, It has been a year filled with challenge,

success, growth, happiness, and, yes, tears. But above all, God’s amazing, and unfailing grace and

strength has carried us forward in this never-ending fight for life. We continue to strive for excellence and

more effective service in our daily efforts to meet our patients right where they stand. Prayerfully, we adjust

and customize our approach to each and every individual. It’s a lot of work. Rewarding work. It takes a lot of resources to accomplish; from equipment, medicine, test kits, take-away materials, all the way up to our amazing staff of doctors, nurses, receptionists, volunteers, managers, and board of directors. In considering of all of this, I would be remiss if I didn’t take a moment, in this season of Thanksgiving, to honor and thank all of YOU, our donors, prayer warriors, pastors, and other supporters for your meaningful and crucially important commitment to LaVie. For without YOU, this simply doesn’t happen. LaVie is YOUR ministry. OUR ministry. United WE stand and fight for LIFE. Everyday. So thank you for all you do. Thank you for your bold, outspoken passion in helping preserve and protect the sanctity of life. Serving Him, together,

Cindy Nordstog, CEO

2015 Annual Fall

Fundraiser

This October, LaVie hosted our new “One Community, Impacting One Life at a Time” 2015 Fundraising Event. Each year we strive to successfully represent LaVie and the women we serve. Your financial gener-

osity this year was such a blessing, and many women, men and families facing an unplanned pregnancy will reap the rewards because of your willingness to give.

The heartfelt address by our key note speaker, Shawn Carney, shared with us his journey as the Co-Founder of 40 Days for Life. In 2004, Shawn helped to lead the first-ever 40 Days for Life campaign in College Station, Texas. This breakthrough initiative – made up of 40 days of prayer and fasting for an end to abortion, round-the-clock peaceful vigil outside a local abortion center, and grassroots outreach – dropped local abortion numbers by 28%. His efforts have mobilized over half a million volunteers over the past 6 years. He shared about the opportunity that we have here in our own community to move for the end of abortion and see the peace of Christ restored in people’s lives.

As always, the ultrasound demonstration by our RN, Stacie, was one of the highlights of the evening. Baby Fread cooperated very nicely giving the audience a good show of both an active 12 week old baby’s movement and heartbeat. A typical comment from guests has been, “It is still a miracle to be able to see into the womb. That tiny life and protecting it remains the main reason we are here.” This year we were blessed to hear from Tony George, who delivered a very moving personal testimony. Guests are still commenting that this was the most impactful part of the program.

LaVie is so appreciative to everyone who attended this year’s Fundraiser. Specifically, we would like to thank this year’s program participants; Pastor Glenn Veltman, Emcee; Anthony George; Father Steve Zabrocki, St. Thomas Catholic Church; LaVie Nurse - Stacie Pannell; Fread Family, Ultrasound Demonstration; C.R Smith, Musician; The Stillwater Strings; Fundraiser Committee: Holly Linde, Carol Tinnes, Anndrea Botch, and Laura Thomas; our fabulous Event Ambassadors for their significant contribution to this year’s fundraiser, and LaVie’s staff and the many volunteers who helped bring about a beautifully organized and successful evening. Thank you to our sponsors, who made this evening possible through their generous financial contributions – especially Faith Chapel, who generously provided the venue and many of their staff. Thank you to all of our donors who have faithfully watched us grow and continued to support our mission through our many changes. May we continue to earn your trust and admiration as we partner in helping women and their unborn babies. All of your support, both prayerfully and financially, makes a difference every day!

It had been a long day. It had been a long week. Classes were not getting any easier.

I was tired. I was tired of juggling my schedule between classes and home life.

I was tired of the endless assignments, the paperwork and the exams. The

early mornings and the late nights were wearing me down. It was like being pulled in every direction and wondering if the busyness

would ever settle down to some sort of normalcy. One thing was certain. In just a few short months I would accomplish my dream. I would

graduate from College and be on my way to a new career! Life was going to get better!

But now…today…my whole world had turned upside down. My great big beautiful dream was shattered. My dream of stability and happiness had twisted into anguish, remorse and despair. My life was never supposed to have taken this turn! How could things have gone so terribly wrong? What had happened? The answers to those questions had dark answers, and those dark answers lay deep in my heart, very deep. I knew exactly what had happened. At a very weak moment, mixed with alcohol, I had made some very poor choices, and now, those choices were screaming

at me inside my head. And the voices on the outside from those who were most important in my life were screaming at me, as well. “Get an abortion!” I could hardly whisper those words out of my mouth. “Keep

the baby!” Back and forth the argument raged in my head. Tears flowed irrepressibly down my cheeks. For certain, the breaking of my heart would nearly kill me. All I knew, right now, was that I did not know what to

do. I could not see myself being able to carry this baby to term. Surely, this Nurse listening to me could understand my desperate situation and why I was telling her that I was thinking of having an abortion.

The Nurse told me briefly what happens in an abortion and the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual effect that could have on me for the rest of my life. Had she had an abortion to be able to tell me this? No. She said that

she saw it repeatedly with the women that walk through the door at LaVie week after week. Having an abortion was a lifelong decision. That decision would be forever with me. The battle raged on and on in my head. Having this baby would

be with me forever, too. How could I ever forgive myself for the poor choices I had made, and now, how could I ever forgive myself for making a choice of abortion that would leave my heart riddled with guilt and shame? All I could see was the rest of my life filled with guilt and shame forever no matter what choice I made. But then, the Nurse spoke to me about forgiveness. Yes, I believed in God. I attended church. But God had not been a priority in my life. But if there was ever a time that I needed God, it was now. I was at the bottom, and didn’t know what to do. She talked to me about the Cross and why Christ had come to earth and had died on that Cross and paid the price of our sin. She talked about me talking to God and asking for His forgiveness. “Do you believe that if you were to ask God’s forgiveness that He would forgive you?” I wasn’t sure in this moment of despair. Then she asked; “Do you believe the ones who love you the most would forgive you if you were to ask their forgiveness?” With pain in my heart I whispered my answer. “Yes… maybe, I’m not sure”. I said it quietly, and the tears flowed down my cheeks again. Again, I cried; “I don’t know what to do”.

Would I come next week for an ultrasound, the Nurse asked? Yes. I could do that. I would do that. I was “very early”, she said. Yes, I wanted to see… But, I still did not know what I was going to do. Five days later, I was having an ultrasound. I was alone. I felt very alone, but I felt okay to be at LaVie and to be with the Nurses there. The screen was on in front of me, and there I saw…a tiny little flicker, flicker, flicker, nonstop the flickering went. It was the beating heart. It was life. I was quiet. I was solemn. The silence was broken when the Nurse asked, “Any thoughts about what you are seeing there?” In seriousness and quietness I said; “I’m going to keep the baby, I’m not going to have an abortion.”

Would I come for another ultrasound in a few weeks? the Nurse asked. Yes, I would. A few weeks later, I returned to LaVie with my Family, the very ones who had screamed, “Get an Abortion!” Things I thought impossible had changed. I was glad that they had come to see the ultrasound with me. I appreciated their support. I appreciated the support of the Staff at LaVie who had helped me to see that I did have alternatives. I appreciated the ultrasounds. They had made such a difference, and I could see those images of life of my unborn baby. Abortion was not my only solution. Through forgiveness, my life was not shattered. My life had worth. My unborn baby had worth. There is hope to work through my mistakes and poor decisions, and have a chance to get my life back on track again … LaVie helped me see that.
