This is an Ecumenical event. Come, meet and
share a meal with members of other churches
of Bandon. You will have a good time!
BE READY
Faith is based on witness. Abraham and Sarah had faith because God kept his promises and they saw his works. The people in exile had faith because God kept his promises and they remembered his works. Our faith requires remembering God’s works with our ancestors. They lived and died in the light of the resurrection of Jesus—the way, the truth, and the life leading to the New Jerusalem, our heavenly homeland. We must stand ready to meet the Lord when he returns!
Maranatha!

Go for Gold: Cycle Oregon Event
September 10-17
Cycle Oregon has been doing well by its home state for over two decades, raising money for
rural communities throughout Oregon. For the 29th annual ride, we’re headed to the southern
Oregon coast. You’ll cruise and climb alongside rivers and railroads, through logging towns,
and coastal farms and forests. And you can feel good knowing that proceeds from the ride go
to support the beautiful areas that inspire you on your journey.
Volunteers are needed in the Bandon community for this event. The cyclists will be in
Bandon on September 12 for dinner from 4:30-9:30 pm and for breakfast the following
morning, September 13 from 5-9 am. Forty volunteers are needed for each of these meals.
The benefits of volunteering for these meals are as follows:
1. Residents of Bandon come together to show off our hospitality and friendliness
2. Cyclists’ money will stay in the Bandon community, and participating organizations will
receive a stipend toward their programs.
An information sheet is posted in the back of the church. For more information
about signing up, please contact Scott McEachern, Director
Southern Coos Health Foundation

Luke 12:32-48
By Fr. Damien Dougherty, O.F.M.
The invitation not to fear is explicitated in its ultimate foundation: the benevolence of the Father as it is his
love that gives us peace, the knowledge of the mysteries of God, the participation in his kingdom. Thus, the
declaration-promise of Jesus will find its first realization within Jesus himself and, then, within the life of
all the Christians. For Luke, the kingdom and the treasure translate into a question of the heart: it is not the
treasure, in itself, that is capable of giving us salvation and joy, but the heart with its fundamental choices
that permits the gift of God to become salvific for us. What is necessary is to have a heart free, pure,
circumcised in order to scent, crave, and discover the treasure.
Two, short parables are introduced: that of the master who returns during the night, and that of the thief who
comes at night-time. The perspective is that of the Parousia: we must remain vigilant because we do not know
at what hour the Lord will return.
The term usually translated "steward," is proper to Luke and the parable insinuates that there are two qualities
necessary for the administrator: loyalty, in order to preserve the property of the master; and prudence with
which to conduct himself in his relations with the other servants. Lastly, we should note that Luke adds two
verses to this parable that are proper to him to underscore the responsibilities connected to the exercise of
ministry within the Christian communities.
