Be Reminded: a Self Blessingmini-workshop
with your hostess~ Dionne Ruff-Sloan, the Tea Priestess
The alarm went off stealing her from the most perfect dream.
A rough day lay before her and she didn’t want to face it. As
she rolled over to hit the snooze button she remembered
something that might help. She got up grab a candle and some
oil and stood in front of her mirror. She cleared her mind of
her endless to do list and other tasks that awaited her
attention and allowed herself this time...this moment to be
completely present with herself. She felt held and protected as
she lit the candle and watched the flame’s merry dance.
Dabbing a few drops of oil on her
fingers from the bottle, she took a
deep breath and began her self
blessing.

A Remembering
What comes to mind when you hear the word ‘blessing’? A
religious or spiritual experience? The laying on of hands? A
prayer? Good wishes? All or none of these? For me, blessing
can best be defined by the word Namaste; the Divine within me
recognizes and honors the Divine within someone or something.
This recognition and honoring uplifts the person or thing
contributing to their happiness, well-being and prosperity.
Receiving a blessing through ceremony or from someone after
under going a spiritual training can be a wonderfully experience,
but blessing myself has been equally if not more transformative.
When I make time to bless myself, I refill my cup and realign
with what is truth for me. I let go of limitations and smallness.
I grow, I expand and remember I am more than the things I
have, the things I do, and more than just my body. I am spirit
in body...I am Divine.

Steps for Self Blessing
In a quiet space in your home or outside after a walk. With a
ceremony or just as a start to your day, there is no wrong
place or way to bless yourself. Over the years, my personal self
blessing ritual has taken on many different forms but there is
usually a basic formula I follow.
Clear the space
Use this time to set out the items you want to use for your self
blessing. Then using white sage or other space clearing
technique, clear your space and set out what you’ve decide to
use for the blessing.
Grounding & Centering
Check in with your body. See if there is any tension or
tightness and release with a few deep breaths to bring yourself
completely into your body. Shift your awareness into your body
and align with what your heart centered wish for this time is.
Blessing
Ask your spiritual allies to be with you as witnesses to your
ceremony. Anoint your body with essential oils, or a flower
dipped in water. As you anoint yourself, use any words you feel

appropriate. Here’s a blessing I use often as I touch (directly or
as close as possible) each Chakra center with rose oil:
May the root of my being be blessed that I make choices based upon
what is right for my highest good.
May my womb be blessed that I bring new ideas to life fully formed
and whole.
May my center be blessed that I balance quiet time with activity,
creativity with time for reflection.
May my heart be blessed that I may be open to receive and give
love in all its splendid forms.
May my throat be blessed that I may speak well of myself, others
and that I may speak out to right a wrong.
May my eyes be blessed that I may fully see my own beauty
reflected back at me every time I look in the mirror
May my head be blessed that I may always remain connected to
*You (*call upon a specific Goddess, Great Spirit or whomever you
feel aligned with)

Here’s one when I want or need something quicker:
Bless my feet & legs to walk my path
Bless my belly to create with strength and beauty
Bless my heart to love and be loved
Bless my hands & arms to comfort and be comforted
Bless my voice to speak my truth
Bless my mind to understand wisdom
May I be a blessing to all those I meet today
Basking
Spend a few minutes basking in the afterglow! Write down any
messages your spiritual allies have for you or just be in
meditation with them. Visualize how you would like your day to
be or pick a word that will help you reconnect with your center
during the day. Then go and carpe the heck out of your diem!

Now that you know how great it feels to swimming in
blessings, why not bless someone else with that feeling? The
gift of a personalized blessing is an expression of deep love
from your heart
Sharing the Blessings
You don’t have to be trained in any religious discipline to write
a blessing for another person. Just as there is no wrong way to
bless yourself, there is no wrong way to give a blessing to
another person. Additionally the conscious act of blessing
someone leaves you feeling uplifted and blessed too! The most
important thing is the intent behind the words you choose.
Before you start to write, take a few deep breaths to bring
yourself fully into your body. When you feel connected, do a
brief self blessing speaking out loud these or other appropriate
words:
May the love I have overflow and travel
through my pen so my loved one feels our heart connection
Next, think about the person and the reasons you have for
writing the blessing. Here is an example of a blessing I wrote to
celebrate a marriage:
© Dionne Ruff-Sloan | Spirit filled wisdom for your daily life | GoddessTeaHouse.com 15
May the love that started as just a dream
continue to blossom and bear the fruit
of compassion, magic, wisdom, & playfulness
When trials and test come your way
May your spirits always find in each other
a soothing sanctuary.
Here’s a blessing I wrote for a friend when she completed a
spiritual training program:
May your guides, guardians, angels
& ancestors rejoice with you and shower their blessings
upon you on your special day and all
the days of your life.
When writing my blessings I often start the sentences with the
phrase ‘May you’. I do this to honor the free will of the
individual and conveys my wish for them to experience these
things only if they choose to experience it. Here are some
questions to help get you in the blessing flow.
