Hello, and thank you for checking out this very special digital-exclusive comic book. The stories that appear here were origi-nally published as installments of a weekly webcomic I did for about six months called Super Party. I started on that webcomic because I was working on a new comic book and was just so excited to show off the pages as I was completing them that I started posting them online, one per week.

The problem for me is that I was used to doing comic books in print, and the release of each one was cause for celebration. When I would finish a story previously, there would be a release party witht a show and a room full of friends and fans enjoying the new book. I loved the excitement of building anticipation, and the chaos of the date drawing near.

Posting a page per week online, I couldn’t organize the same kind of hoopla. Ev-eryone had been following along week to week and the final update landed like just another update without the celebration that made releasing a comic book fun. Looking around a room at well-dressed people im-mersed in my cartoon world was replaced with furiously refreshing page stats and re-plying to blog comments.

I switched formats and started creating sin-gle-page stories, but I was reminded of a lesson that I just keep having to learn the hard way. It goes like this - conventional wisdom says that you have to build a fol-lowing by releasing material on a reliable and predictable schedule. But I’ve never been a reliable or predictable kind of guy. I’ve preferred the model used by the mov-ies and pop music where you put all of your passion and heart into a major work, pro-mote the hell out of it, and turn its release into a huge event.

So that’s what I’m working on now - my first big major comics story in a bunch of years. And I realize now that it’s what I was work-ing on all this time, looking at this collection as an introduction to the characters and a taste of the kinds of humor and situations you can expect when the all-new SEAN WARD ELECTRIC COMICS FREAK-OUT comes out in the next couple of months.
