Bagan, the ancient royal city that hosted the dynasty of 55 kings since early second century, is the cradle of Myanmar culture. Many ancient monuments cover an area of about 16 sq.meters, where there were four million pagodas. Ruins of all sizes, some glorious temples and graceful small pagodas stand as far as one’s eye can see. Environs are Mount Popa, SaLe and PaKhanGyi.

Inle is a vast beautiful picturesque lake sheltered among the hazy blue mountains of 1524m. Leg-rowers, silk weaving, floating market and silver-smith are famous. One can also observe the natural life of hill tribes. Environs are Kalaw, Pindaya, and TaungGyi.

Myauk U, ancient city of Rakhine Kingdom(15th century), is known for its old temples with wall paintings of Indian cultural influence.

Pyu Ancient Cities (Myanmar’s World Heritage) includes the remains of three brick, walled and moated cities of Halin, Beikthano and SriKsetra located in vast irrigated landscapes in the dry zone of the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River basin. They reflect the Pyu Kingdoms that flourished for over 1,000 years between 200 B.C and 900 A.D. The three cities are partly excavated archaeological sites. Remains include excavated palace citadels, burial grounds and early industrial production sites, as well as monumental brick Buddhist stupas, partly standing walls and water management features – some still in use - that underpinned the organized intensive agriculture.

Ngapali Beach is situated on the Bay of Bengal along 3km long un-spoilt silvery sand beach. Coconut trees growing along the sea shore provide fresh coconut water. Nearby fishing villages are also alluring places to study the life of native people. An ideal place for sun-bathing, swimming and snorkeling.

4 Beautiful Beaches The ones along the shores of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea, facing west with beautiful sunsets, are among the best. Here are four of the most stunning beaches in Myanmar.

Ngwe Saung (Silver Beach),which means Silver Beach, consists of 15 kilometers of white sand and blue sea, bordered by tall, green palms swaying in the breeze, a serious relaxation spot. What Ngwe Saung does not have in terms of accommodations compared to the more developed Ngapali, it makes up in peace. Flights from Yangon take about 35 minutes, but the beach can also be reached by a six-hour car ride, or a 16-hour boat ride.

Chaung Tha is popular with Myanmar’s middle class. You can paddle, float and ride up and down the beach on ponies. Buy tacky souvenirs, play beach football games, and have family picnics. Very similar to these types of beaches in other parts of the Southeast Asia, Chaung Tha may not be the most stunning coastline, but it provides an affordable and convenient option for those travelling on a budget and need a quick hit of sand and sun.

Kanthaya Beach Its name translates to Pleasant Beach, and it’s one of Myanmar’s quietest getaways. The beach is naturally beautiful, with very little in the ways of development and accommodations. The attraction is precisely in the lack of the usual beachside sports and shops. You are not even able to book a hotel in advance, but it should not be difficult to find a room in this little known locale in the nearby village, as the beach’s only hotel has closed. You can walk along the 4.5 kilometer beach with its golden sand, climb small hills and watch for birds, or even ask local fishermen, who are simple and honest, to one of the small islands off of the shore. A true hideaway from modern civilization.
