2019-2020 BEEKEEPING CLASS BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEE-HOLDER. Classes are held on the 3RD SATURDAY of the month, starting on NOVEMBER 16, 2019, from 10 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. Students will receive a Certificate of Completion after the final class on October 17, 2020. ***The cost of the class does not include materials. Students should purchase veils, hive tools, and smokers before the first class. Additional payment for hive kits is due in Jan 10 and payment for bees is due in March 15 All materials are available for purchase at the Botanical Gardens. Learn from Florida Master Beekeepers in this comprehensive hands-on introduction to basic beekeeping held at the USF Botanical Gardens Apiary. The course is open to all people interested in becoming beekeepers, with an emphasis on the “BACKYARD BEEKEEPER.” Over the course of 12 CLASSES, students will learn how to identify activities going on inside AT THE USF BOTANICAL GARDENS the hive, establish a new colony of bees, divide colonies, extract honey, and control swarms. The course will also cover integrated pest management techniques for keeping bees healthy and the basics of re-queening and queen management. In February, students build their own hives.
