Learn from Florida Master Beekeepers in this comprehensive hands-on introduction to basic beekeeping held at the USF Botanical Gardens Apiary. The course is open to all people interested in becoming beekeepers, with an emphasis on the “BACKYARD BEEKEEPER.” Over the course of 12 CLASSES, students will learn how to identify activities going on inside AT THE USF BOTANICAL GARDENS the hive, establish a new colony of bees, divide colonies, extract honey, and control swarms. The course will also cover integrated pest management techniques for keeping bees healthy and the basics of re-queening and queen management. In February, students build their own hives.
