THE PASTOR’S PEACE Isaiah 64:1 “O that you would tear open the heavens and come
down….” O how we wish that Isaiah’s prayer would come true today. In the sixth century BCE, when Isaiah wrote, Judah was in great despair. They had lost the temple and had been in exile in Babylon. The sixty-forth chapter of Isaiah was written to a distraught group of people in Jerusalem, waiting in anticipation for God to renew the covenant and save them. As Christians we find that new covenant in Jesus the Christ. Je-sus is sent by God as an answer to the prayers of Isaiah and others who struggled with the difficulties of a broken world. Jesus was a final covenant, a salvation of all of humanity, a great light that would never cease to outshine the darkness of our world. Although our sins are forgiven through Christ, and we know God is with us, sometimes the world can still seem dark. In these current economic times things such as layoffs and disap-pearing retirements can leave us in great despair. They can leave us longing like Isaiah for God to come again from the heavens and deliver us. Time and time again I have heard the stories of people who, upon losing their jobs, feel like they are worthless. Men of older generations in particular feel that somehow their masculinity itself has been stripped away by their inability to provide for their family. This Advent season is a time for us to remember what it was like to wait in anticipation. For many people this year, such antici-pation for salvation will not be too hard to imagine. Despite the difficulty, despite the hardship, we must remember that a light does shine and is with us and in us. Even in the time of Isaiah, God was still with them. God was still working through the prophets and guiding the people of Israel. God is still with us today, as well. We do not know when God will tear open the heavens again to usher in Christ’s return, but we must have hope. We must be-lieve the promise of God and look for the light again with fresh eyes in a world that seems to be in such need. Even if Jesus does not come back today or tomorrow, or for a thousand years, we can still help usher in the Kingdom of God every day of our lives. We can do it; we can help bring light to those who need it. In this season of Advent, this season of such deep anticipation, take a moment and ask yourself, “How am I bringing the light of Christ? How am I liv-ing out God’s promise?”
Peace and Blessings, Pastor Brian

SUNDAY SCHOOL PROGRAM Our Sunday school is making some changes. We have started to have Sunday school during the church hour. The children remain in the sanctuary for the beginning of the church service. After the children’s moment they go to the upstairs classrooms until the end of church. The nursery will remain the same – open to all infants and toddlers, kin-dergarten and younger. Classes are for first grade and older. We are continuing with our science and God lessons.
DAUGHTER’S DINNER
On March 7th, Pat Freeze, Shelby Schoonover and Jean Ali plan to co- chair a "Daughter's Dinner". Mark your calendars.
Shoe Boxes We delivered 30 shoeboxes to the Op-eration Christmas Child. Thanks to all of you who filled boxes for the chil-dren.
Troop Boxes
Four Troop boxes were mailed out. Thanks to all of you who contributed items to fill these boxes. There will be enough to send 4 more boxes. If you know of someone who is overseas and would like to receive a box from home, let Kristine Petrick or Jeannette know so we can get it together for them.
Thanks to all of you who contributed to the meals for the Thanksgiving families. We helped feed six families. They all appreciated it very much. Thanks to all of you who contributed a Thanksgiving offering with your canned food and staples. Many families will be able to put a little more food on their ta-bles.
Children’s Christmas Program
Our children’s Christmas pro-gram will be on Sunday, Decem-ber 7th at 6:00 PM. Please plan to attend and support our children. They have worked very hard on their program to bring some Christmas joy into your lives. See you then.
As you can see, even though this is a tough year for many, our Bea-ver church family has been very generous. Your love and giving will be shared with many. Your arms have been opened wide. God is proud!!

CHRISTMAS SILENT AUCTION The silent auction drawing will be on Sunday, December 14th following the church service. You can still bring in items for the auction. Tickets are 1 for $1.00, 6 for $5.00 and 12 for $10.00. You can buy your tickets from Becky Reindl any time at church. Put your name and phone number on the back of the ticket and drop it in any enve-lope of the gift you hope to win. It’s fun and it helps the church fund as well. Good luck!!
CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE The Christmas Eve service is
on December 24th at 7:00 PM
“He Is the Light of the World” is the title of the choir’s Christmas cantata. Songs with narration will comprise the pro-gram. The final lighting of the Advent wreath will begin the service. The free-will offering will be given to someone from the church who is in need. The program gives a “reason for the Sea-son”—a prelude to family traditions for Christmas Day.
The worship team meets once a month on the third Tuesday. If you have any comments or ideas, please share them with someone on the team: Melissa Baumbarger, Karen Davidson, Sharon Parkison, Pastor Brian, Jeannette Papajcik, Bob Tobias, or Jessie White.
Thanksgiving Dinner Many of you enjoyed the after-church Thanksgiving dinner. What a yummy way to start the holidays! Thanks to Bill Goessl for braving the cold to cook the turkeys on the grills outside. They were delicious. Thanks to all of you for sharing your good food.
Annual Meeting The Annual Congregational Meet-ing will be held after the worship service and a carry-in meal on January 25, 2009. Come for a great meal, see what was accom-plished the past year, and what is in store for 2009. A majority of members is necessary to vote for new consistory members.
CONGRATULATIONS Alexis Morgan Powell was born to Judd and Michele on November 1st, 2008.
Congratulations to our newest citizens—Iryna and Olena. In a naturalization ceremony at Xenia High School on November 6 Iryna pledged her loyalty to the United States of America.
