Beenergi is an energy company of the future.

We collect waste coffee beans and convert them into energy pellets, which are then used to heat biomass boilers; meaning less fossil fuels and greater energy efficiency for London. As a company our commitment is to make a positive difference to the green energy revo-lution. We want to create a progressive difference in London by making London self-sustaining, by using a bio mass innovation, recycling everyday waste – coffee – taking the world’s most popular drink and turning it into energy. Our goal is to integrate the public – through their drinking of coffee – with our vision of carbon-neutral energy for London helping us to create the world’s first truly sustainable city.

We allow coffee shops the opportunity to participate by providing us with their coffee waste. We would like to work with the public as well as conscious big business’s, by making them aware of reprocessing waste and the power of recycling – quite literally!

BIO MASS STORY

Renewable energy is the future of energy consumption worldwide because we are beginning to comprehend the fragility of our planet and to recognise the fact that we have become dependent on a finite resource.

Alternative fuel sources and renewable energy are in high demand and could provide a long-term, sus-tainable and economically attractive alternative to fossil fuels. Second generation biofuels, defined as the collection of organic waste or purposely farmed certified crop that can be converted into biofuel, were cre-ated in response to this demand. In light of growing public interest, corporate social responsibility and na-tional and international awareness, we feel that London is ready for a company as progressive as Beenergi.

The need for a green energy transformation, outlined by McDonough and Braungart in their book ‘Cradle to Cradle’, is of great importance to the economic and environmental competitiveness of any business, city or nation. London’s Mayor clearly understands this, considering he pledged a 60% reduction in carbon emissions by 2025, and the public, business and government have become greatly interested in this green energy transformation, as well.

Beenergi was created with this insight in mind, and our marketing and PR strategies will encapsulate all of these key areas.

HOW IT WORKS

Beenergi collects waste coffee beans and converts them in heating pellets.

It operates as an innovative waste disposal service, turning waste material into the most valuable resource on the planet – fuel.

We will achieve this what? Through a straightforward scientific process that converts used coffee grounds into coffee oil and then through a simple transisterifcication process converts the coffee oil into grade II biodiesel.

Due to the current economic climate and environmental conditions, a project of this nature has the poten-tial to be of significant value not only as a profitable and ethical business in itself but also as a fantastic model for other companies to follow. With the appropriate levels of investment and the correct utilisation of resources and techniques, this project could generate well over £4 million profit within the first year.

The exciting thing is that London is just a prototype for other cities; this model can be utilised in any city on the planet where there are used coffee grounds.

BEENERGI and COFFEE SHOPS

Beenergi must establish and foster relationships with corporate food and bever-age companies as well as local independent coffee shops in order to ensure our collection process takes place.

Our core business strategy relies on the collaboration with large multinational companies and independent coffee companies to collect their waste coffee grounds and to pass them on to us. Relationships are the key to collecting our energy supply, but branding and advertising is also essential because it is important that these corporate companies and local independent coffee companies feel compelled to jump on board and participate.

As mentioned earlier there is a green energy transformation taking place around the world, and more and more the public and business are getting involved. The Beenergi business model, uniquely, allows the public and business to participate – they are left with a good feeling knowing that drinking coffee provides us with the waste coffee grounds that are the source for this green energy transformation.

Moreover it is Beenergi’s belief that as the public becomes aware that their participation, through Beenergi actually contributes positively to the environment, interest and public recognition will follow naturally. Our PR team will harness this in our strategy. It is fair to say the role of ‘public sentiment’ will be essential to ensure our quick growth and keen interest in our company.

WHAT WE DO

The coffee waste is takem to a central location in London, where it is dried and then pelletised to form a biomass heating pellet which is then transported to various places within London.

Hospitals being one of the primary locations for pellet delivery. The pellets are used for general electric-ity consiumpition i.e. heating the hospitals large boilers. Recently several of London’s hospitals have turned green and provide state of the art in buidling energy efficency. Beenergy will work in collabora-tion with Hospitals and provide them with renewable energy.

Schools being another main location for pellet delivery. The pellets are used for heating and general electrical consumpution. Similary to hospitals several of Londons schools have adopted energy ef-ficiency and have installed biomass boilers.

Coffee waste is collected from cafes, Beenergi will provide a collection service throughout London’s many coffee shops, providing each coffee shop with a bin and collecting on a weekly basis.

FACTS and FIGURES

The Local Coffee Market

- The UK is the fifth largest coffee consumer in the EU

- In the UK, we drink approximately 70 million cups of coffee per day

- London consumes half of the UK’s coffee

- We aim to collect in our first year 2,000 tonnes of waste coffee grounds (total weight with water satura-tion 4,000 tonnes), which according to charges £70 per tonne in landfill tax, which means in theory we would be saving London coffee shops a total of £280,000.

- Used coffee grounds are currently disposed of like normal waste, adding to the population’s already mas-sive carbon footprint and landfill problem. We have the potential to become the first company in the world to make consuming coffee, a step closer to being carbon neutral.
