A message from Montana-Dakota Beet Growers Association
Greetings! Another year has flown by, and what a busy summer! Beet harvest is here, and it seems like we just got done planting. Let us all hope for a cool dry har-vest. Please re-member safety is our priority in all aspects of harvest. There is still a lot of heavy truck and train traffic, so please be especially vigilant on the road.
Wishing you a safe and bountiful harvest.

Sidney Sugars Incorporated is once again preparing for an-other sugarbeet harvest. The growing season has been filled with strong storms and a lot of hail. Over fifty percent of our 31,000 acres was damaged by hail during the summer. Some fields only received slight dam-age while other areas were hit very hard. Our current crop estimate is 26.1 tons per acre. Our root sample results indi-cate we may have a better crop than that. The Agriculture de-partment will watch early yield results and adjust the estimate if necessary.
Our 2013 sugar beet harvest will begin on September 30th for a few stations. We will have all receiving stations open by October 2. During the early part of the harvest, growers can expect adjustments to har-vest hours depending on beet temperatures. We will delay or shorten hours if the sug-arbeets are showing internal temperatures over 55 degrees. Truck drivers should watch the scale houses for any updated messages. The oil boom has increased traffic a great deal. Beet truck drivers should drive defensively and take your time getting to the beet pil-ers. Safety should always be our first concern. Have a safe
sugarbeet harvest and watch out for the trucks.
